As was the case in other CP Verlag games, the graphics are pretty good. Everything is very well presented, although the colourful nature of the game may put some people off.
The music is also very good. There are many tunes in the game, the best one is played when the 'Get Ready!' screen is showed between the levels. The sound effects are OK in average. Some are good like the explosions but some really suck like the death sound which reminds me of old Atari 2600 games and Las Vegas slot machines.
It is not easy to remake a classic game such as H.E.R.O., but this one manages to pulls it off pretty well.
As enjoyable as the original H.E.R.O., maybe even more. If you are a H.E.R.O. fan, this is a must for you. If you haven't heard of H.E.R.O. before, go try it right now! And then play this game.
Also, more H. E. R. O. Is always welcome. Wish there was a level designer for it!
Just a class game for me.
So, this game came in a bundle with a couple of other decent programmes for a mere 9. 80 Deutsche marks. If we say that this game was equivalent to about a fifth of the bundle, and if we consider that HERO cost 80.00 Deutsche marks ten years before, and assuming an inflation rate of circa 2.5% annually, it means that this game was more than 50 time cheaper (!) than the original.
That's quite an achievement and should be acknowledged when commenting.
So far I am preferring this over the original, although I get the point Zzap made about using just a few too many colours at once.
The graphics and sound are nice and the screens are a bit more varied than the original.
I've seen a few of his tin-foil hat comments on some games here. I wonder if he is still among us or has he been called back up to the mothership?
You are just angry because this is (indeed) a rip-off, and then you made a complete mess of your comment.
Now you may continue to discuss about the only thing important to you (that is, appearance - talk about "masses", eh?) and let me enjoy games for what they really are.
P. S. : yes, I am the repository of the one and only truth, so my comments are not really personal opinions, they must be learned by heart
How exactly are the ugly, soulless lores graphics of this shameless rip-off better than the sharp and ultra-amospheric graphics of the original H. E. R. O. ?
And nothing, absolutely nothing can ever beat the original sound effects in their perfect, atmospheric simplicity.
Now, these things can be said to be matters of opinion (though you made it more like a factual statement), of course.
But my point is that the masses don't seem to have the ability to appreciate anything except the immediately obvious, nor to form any independent opinions, without taking "what will the others think" into consideration.
It's like someone makes a quick photoshopped hires picture, and it is automatically 'better' graphics (in the minds of the masses) than someone else's painstakingly hand-pixelled lores picture (which actually represents the 'better graphics')
So don't say this soulless rip-off, example of plagiarism, has BETTER graphics OR sound. Just say it's DIFFERENT, or that YOU like it better. That way you will speak the truth - it's only your (mass-style) opinion, so state it as such.
I'm going to give this a play tonight, I love H. E. R. O.
BTW: the "cave" in the title screen remembers me on something I want to put my joystick in :-)
Graphics: 69
(title screen cave: 90)
Sound: 69
Gameplay: 72
good for hours of fun.
