Fantastic in every respect. 64 Classic.
A serious flaw that prevents me giving this 10/10 is that levels 5 and 6 you have to go around in circles because the right colours don't appear. Seriously annoying.
This somewhat trippy take on the sidescrolling shooter genre is one of the rare cases of home computer games that succeeds in being delightfully different but still fun to play, even by todays standards. Once you're familiar with the controls and the upgrade system the game becomes a real joy to play. I didn't get it as a kid, but now I see what all the praise is about. If you haven't played it, play it! But play the original C64 version. Something was lost in all of the conversions.
This should be in Historical national Archives! amazing game conisdering it came out in 80s. Graphics were amazing. I played this for days with my mates when it came out. Didnt know about the cheat. SOUND is out of this world. Go play this on a REAL 64 ONLY. No Emulators on this game,Please!
Amazing once you learn how to use the power-ups and get a feel for the game.
It did take me a while but once I "got it" I really enjoyed it and played the heck out of it.
A real original concept and one title I'll be going back to for some time to come.
Joking aside from my last comment, this is imho the best Commodore 64 game of all time. Even if you find it too easy there's still loads of replay value.
This game hasn't aged at all and I still return to it today. Put it simply, it's highly polished, highly original, highly playable and totally addictive. An absolute masterpiece classic. 10/10

By far and away the best shooter on the 64. Fantastic as 1 player, simply unbeatable as 2 player with a mate controlling the cat.
My only criticism is that it initially took a while to click for me. It looked pretty enough, and sounded great, but I struggled a little with it (I was 11 years old at the time, in my defence!), but when that lightbulb appeared above my head, there was no looking back.
Some games had great graphics, some had originality, some had great sound/music - this had them all. Absolutely brilliant.
Interesting idea for a game. Great music (some of my favourite tunes) and great graphics. Only drawback is the gameplay gets a bit repetitive.
To this day, the best Commodore 64 game ever. Not even The Last Ninja 2 comes close.

Outstanding game for the 64, the Amiga version wasn't a patch on it. The Mount Rushmore graphic was a work of art. An easy 10/10, pity I can't give it more.

Hall of fame c64 game
This is probably the C64 equivilent to Gradius (as opposed to the C64 version of Gradius/Nemesis) - it's a very hard, yet very rewarding shoot-em-up with a crap ending.
More than deserves the praise it gets.
I remember that I sometimes played this game the whole night when I was a kid. No sleep. Polished gameplay and awesome presentation helped creating a world of its own.
Not a bad game, but doesn't live up to its acclaim in my opinion. Once you get properly powered up it's a little too easy, yet still somewhat frustrating because of the stop start nature of taking on the enemies (hide wiz in scenery, take out baddies with catellite.) And the way the wiz rebounds off the landscape can be annoying when you're trying to go down a hole or dodge a bullet.
Still, despite all that it's a good game. I liked it enough to play through it... Just not enough to keep going when it started at the beginning again.
I always knew this game was goo, I knew all the magazine's loved it and it had that amazng sequal that I never played (wizkid). but for the life of me I never knew what the HELL was going on with this. Bloody amazing art on the box though. That ball looks like a hulked-up pea. with a dash of the thing. Can you imagine a playstation remake of this game?? I mean, of course, playstation 3.

Nearly as good as people say it is. Initially the game is a bit frustrating when you're just bouncing & bouncing, but after you get a bit further Wizball starts showing it's strength...
Brill! there was little more satisfying than being treated to the lovely colourful visual of the drab planet being brought to life! totally original, mind blowing fun for me and my bro, who played the smaller ball!

Best game ever on the 64.
I remember there was a feature in a Swedish computer mag where you could post your high scores in different games. In the case of Wizball, most gamers that bothered to post their results of course reached the maximum 999,999, but there were also a few obviously very skilled gamers who proudly claimed they reached 1,4 millions or whatever, and had these results published. The reactions were of course instant and dramatic - honest gamers protested vividly and the whole affair caused a minor crisis as I recall it. Can't remember how the whole thing ended, but my friends and I surely discussed this catastrophic moral decay for quite some time. Those were the days!

The first game I ever played and completed with a mate co-operatively. Superb stuff! Getting through the challenging stage unscathed was a skill in itself. I loved bringing colour back into that world.

One of the defining C64 games.Probably's Ocean's biggest classic, and a great arcade game at that! Amazes me how all this what this game has to offer in just one load. 9 packed beautiful detailed levels, Bonus stage, up to 4-player sim. Mode, neat presentation including basic docs. Some of the best soundtrack you would hear on a 64. This is a must for your collection!
I stuck with this game for it to become my favourite game. I remember playing all Saturday morning to complete this without cheating. That was one of my best acheivements in life. A brilliant game that cannot be bettered. 10/10
Just about all of my friends gave up on this straight away, but once persuaded to give a second go, they were hooked just like I was from the start. Very original gameplay. Another C64 classic.
Wow! One of the best games of all time! I played and played this till I finally completed all 8 levels (without cheating!) Yes, it had cool graphics. Yes, it had wonderful music and in-game sounds. But the gameplay is what really blew me away. After initial frustration at the seemingly awful control system, a bit of perseverance paid off and I was rewarded with a gaming experience that has never been equalled. I think the few people who slag this game to the ground are mainly sad bastards who thought "Shit, you can't just move up, down, left & right and fire at everything in sight within 2 seconds of starting the game, pah, can't be arsed with it..." and switched it off without giving it more than 5minutes play. Pretty crap game-playing skills then , in my opinion. Perhaps the type of person who only ever played ANYTHING with infinite lives or an invincibility hack? Never mind guys ;-)

Although easy to complete, I'd rather play this than the dull, uninspiring PC nonsense on todays shelves. You just can't beat originality. God bless retro ! 10 out of 10 for me lads !!
I just thought...This game would fit 'bout 125 times into the drive cache of some modern hard drives. If my hard drive cache was 125 times more fun than Wizball, I'd be laughing, (insanely). A few NEW games I've played are 0.125 times as much fun as my hard drive cache.
One of my favourites ever since I started playing games on the "wooden" Atari console, (which I still got!). Kept me sane, (ish) whilst my parents were getting divorced so always get me emotional. Only fault, too easy once got the hang of it. Clocking the game at 999,999 didn't seem TOO hard back then. Not sure if I could do that now after 15 years smoking gear, I'll give it a try at some point...

Good, but extremely over-rated game... I was Nintendo-deprived 'til '89, so I wanted this game to be something better than what the Nintendo had to offer. It wasn't. Wizball was a decent game, but lacked substance. The initial stimulation, conjured by the games highly original concept and unique control, wore off too quickly. With so many engrossing RPGs and exciting multi-event sports games for the C64, this game seemed far too trivial to myself and every single person I ever showed it to. It is very hard to say that my Nintendo-owning friends were missing out, when they had so much more fun with Metroid, Zelda, Punchout, and SMB (which blew that Giana Sisters rip-off out of the water). Back then I, myself had much more fun with 4th & Inches and the league of teams my friends and I made with the Team Construction Kit. Maybe I would've found Wizball's 2 player mode more enjoyable if my friends didn't beg to play Summer Games 2 instead. (continued...)
Fantastic game. Played it for an entire day in the computer shop where I used to work and managed to finish it. :-) Was nosy annoyed when a customer wanted to try out another game, managed to persuade em the game was no good so I could carry on playing Wizball! :-)

Possibly the greatest C64 game ever made. Truly original concept and flawless execution. Great when played alone, a gem when you had a pal to control Nifta. Difficult at first but when you got hang of it it was a blast.

A shoot-em-up puzzler with a tricky control system. Definitely one for 2 simultaneous players (I like being the cat). The wonderful glass sound when you die heart-breaking... PISHHHHHHHHH!!!
One thing about this excellent game, it begins unplayable (thats why this must of put some gamers off this). But as soon as you recieve the first power-up it becomes fun and addictive. It deserves 11/10 not 10/10.

I remember completing this in the small hours of the morning with my mate Tim Clarke. Surrounded by cans of Diet Pepsi and crisps, we finished this awesome game. Definitely the best - and most iconic (at least for me) - game for the C64. I don't want to see this updated for today's PC or consoles; I just don't think it work work - or feel the same on anything else. An absolute classic.
Completed this loads of times because it was so enjoyable. The two player mode was a great idea, now you and a friend could get bad necks from playing it for 6 hours solid. I know I have the original of this in my loft somewhere, I must find it. MAGIC!!

This was the first game I ever bought. It is also the best game I ever played on the C64, which I still do from time to time.
The concept is so original, and it works! The gameplay is magnificent, and highly addictive. The graphics are perfect for the game. And the soundtrack by Martin Galway is one of my top-three favourites, the other two being Rob Hubbard's "Monty On The Run", and "Auf Wiedersehen Monty".
The fact that I still play it now, 15 years later, is for me the mark of a truly great game. To me, nothing beats Wizball.
What can I say this has to be one of the most addictive games that I have ever played with the exception of Champ Manager, but on the 64 it was a classic. Graphics were simple but easy on the eye, gameplay straight forward.

I've been playing games since 1983 and can honestly say Wizball stands apart as sublime. An original idea, fantastic and smooth gameplay, effective and clean graphics, superlative sound and music. It should be studied by anyone who wants to design an original game, as an example of what can be achieved. Fifteen years on, well done to the team behind it.

Why this game never spawned any clones I'll never know. Maybe because it was too hard to equal such Genius. It's a shame to see some people not 'getting' this game, and that overall score is obviously rigged. Perhaps not quite THE best game on C64, but close. Quality music. 9 out of 10(dying cats).

Wizball is really hard by today's standards, but it was pure, flowing JOY when I was a kid. There was so much depth, and the quirky controls forced you to keep calm. One of the few really original games on the C64.
Greatest C64 game ever released. Superb graphics, exellent use of sound and totally absorbing gameplay. You will find this game hard to put down even nowdays. Also great music and better than the Atari ST and Amiga versions , don't even mention speccy and amsrad versions. Great all round package.

This game was so fun. So playable. Has everything in a space game. The SIDS sounds are fantasic. Completed this game back in 1988. In just 64k Memory its got Brillant Realistic Sound, 9 bigs levels of coolness. Huge Bonus stages! BVrillant Presentation! Built in Docs! High-Scores!, above all that theres simulatously 2 player mode! Its has to be the best C64 I can ever think of! Exellent work to OCEAN !

My all-time favourite C64 game. It is best with 2 players, with one player controlling the catball. Ingenious, original ideas were rare on the C64, and even rarer was finding one that was effective and playable. This is one of those.
