I love Wishbringer! It’s pretty hard for a modern player concerning it was meant to be one of the easy Infocom games, though.
Some puzzles I found strange, but I totally fell in love with the writing and workd building. Excellent game.

First infocom game I ever played to completion. As a beginner when I played it, I can say it's the perfect level of difficulty for a first timer, without having to use hints or even wishes. The map size and item count are perfect for when you are stuck, enough locations that you have to think actively about where to go without ever feeling overwhelmed like you'll never find the clue, and few enough items at any one time that it's simple enough to figure out the moment when the item is called for so you don't have to juggle like crazy. The setting is charming and the handful of characters serve their purposes well. All in all just such a joy, can't recommend this enough to someone curious about the world of text adventures looking for a place to start.

This game is overall pretty easy, and a good introduction to text adventure gaming concepts, but has some suprisingly evil gotchas.

A few hints.

1) the game knows when you aren't supposed to know something. So don't think you can skip steps.

2) Do not let the 3d glasses out of your inventory. If they ever do leave it, reclaim them ASAP!

3) It is very difficult to win without using any wishes. But it's impossible to win if you use them all.

4) Pay careful attention to details and hints. Don't forget to EXAMINE things.

I got this game when I was about 5. I never solved it - go figure and them my C64 died. Can you download it off this site? Oh, what was the deal with the Princess and the heart turning into a stone? What the heck did that have to do with the plot? I never could grasp that idea...

Wishbringer was one of the first Infocom adventures I played -- and by golly did it hook me! I'd never been a big fan of text adventure games before I discovered Infocom. I found them to be clunky and unimaginative, where 90% of the battle involved overcoming a primitive parser in order to solve an endless tirade of obscure, often illogical puzzles. All that changed with Infocom, who put story ahead of all other concerns and threw in a state of the art parser to boot. Wishbringer simply oozes with atmosphere, as the quaint, pastoral village of Festeron turned into a dark, occasionally unnerving shadow of its former self once you reach the Magick Shoppe. Wishbringer turned me into an Infocom fan overnight. Anyone else yet to fall under their spell should give this a whirl and be prepared for a major addiction to kick in!

Just another multi-load text adventure. Nothing special about it.

Apparently this was designed for the adventure novice (along with Seastalker) and as such seems to be easier than the other Infocom games, although as Geoff says it's still a good challenge. It has a gentle, fairytale atmosphere. Probably best described as 'nice' :)

This is a superb game! Wonderful atmosphere - a small seaside village. Not too easy. Highly recommended.

Anyone know what to do with the Wizard's hat after you come back from the mysterious island? Never could work it out 10 years ago... Great game!

Hello there,

this game is of course by Infocom, and it's quite interesting.
