Based on an aging game style that has failed to keep up with the advances of Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3, and featuring a control method that's heavily inertia-based (the hero moves like an elephant skating on ice, with the recoil making matters worse), Terry's Big Adventure is the definition of overrated. The unremarkable graphics and annoying piano ditty further rub salt into the wound. :|

Bland graphics and music, no sound effects, pales next to Giana Sisters.

One of the greatest platformers ever! I love the graphics, music, and gameplay.
For those, who say the control is bad, or slow, I have to say, this is not a weakness, the control is intentionally like that. This is part of the game and in my opinion, it's superb!
My favorite platformer heroes were Giana, Terry, and Rick! :D

The game is excellent, better than giana sisters.

Terry's control system takes getting used to. It takes time to build up speed and to stop making Terry feel like he weighs 18 stone.

The music only uses at most two channels leaving a channel free for SFX but they didn't bother. How lazy!

Backgrounds are totally bland and uninspired.

Negatives out of the way this is an enjoyable platformer. But don't believe the hype on this one.

7/10

Just a quick note: music form C64 version should be credited to Gary Walton, actually. He plays piano and came up with short catchy tune. Somebody said that music is probably Allister's because of Amiga credits, but Amiga version has different music.

Superb and forgotten platformer. Much like Mario Bros but better to play because it hasn't been overplayed like the old Mario Nes games.

Music is catchy and gameplay is decent. Shame you can't go backwards in the game.

all in all. I will give it a 8/10

Great Platformer!! I've never heard of this game before (like most people here I guess) but it's indeed as much fun as Wonderboy and Giana Sisters. Give it a try!

This one is a gem. Almost overlooked back then. Stands up with the famous Giana Sister and the mighty Wonderboy in the top league of scrolling platformers.

With an better graphic this game would be an great plattformer in the same class like Giana Sisters. So it's still an really good plattformer but it fails the last step to be nearly perfect.
7 points

I think it's better then the overrated Creatures games. Terry have the far better gamepyhsic.

I always told my dad this was the best game we had and I had The Last Ninja and many of the best games. I really loved this game and actually I think it's one of very few I completed; maybe the only one. I remember level 4 was the hardest one and if you died game over on this map you always had to respawn on it if you died on the later levels. That was the only bad thing with the game. :)

Great, underrated platform for c64, graphics improves per level, nice colours, variety of scenario and good gameplay (with one problem or two, but it's OK).

Been trying the C64 version over and over and I didn't like at all. Try play the Amiga one, it's quite funky and cool.

However I will give a 6/10 for the good music this game has.

Try again, bub :(

Controls are superb. As is the game itself, in each of its unique levels. Music is done by Gary Walton I think.

Standard GFX and mzx, but gameplay is the thing. Control may seem poor and slow but the longer you play the more you get used to it and more joy you get from it. It's one of the best platform games I've ever played. Honest. 8)

Really great platform fun, I'd choose this over Mario any day of the week.

I enjoy playing this game with my 7 year old son. It's great fun but the music get monotoeus after a while... I would prefer sound effects, but I don't think there is any!?

Damn! I hated this game. It was one of the first Amiga 500 games I had.. I hated it because I was looking for games with big graphics and violent situations, DragonNinja for example,... But I played it a lot.

nowadays I find it a superb classic,... And underrated.

btw, Amiga version tune is credited to AllisterBrimble in HallOfLight archive website. If this is correct ( which Im not sure at all) maybe C64 music is from Allister too.

Bah! I certainly don't see it as a rip off at all and prefer it over anything connected with those Nintendo plumbers! To me, it is one of the greatest lesser known platformers out there.
I have finally obtained another copy to enjoy it again. Perhaps this time I'll finally finish it!
The last question I have about the game is: Just who did make the wonderful feel good soundtrack? Guesses anyone?
TWR 2003-02-12
A Super Mario Bros rip-off, simple but effectful graphics and sound. The best thing was the CONTEX crack, where you could choose a quick gamestart among other things...
Rob Bailey 2002-12-20
I never had the original, but I got a copy towards the end of primary school and me and my little sister fell in love with it. There's something oddly surreal about it, so much so that I'm doing a remix of the music for kwed! :)

Terry was released just before I got an Amiga 500, so it was the last game I bought for the C64. It's quite a neat little platformer even if the controls are poor and slow.
DeAdLy_cOoKiE 2002-07-13
I have fond memories of the Amiga version. That little bastard with a deadly jojo... (music inspired by kraftwerk's 'the model').
A bit like giana sisters?.. Try it.
