The best of the 'Games' series by Epyx. Great multiplayer fun.

Pretty good, just falls slightly short of SG 1 due to a couple of lame events.

This was the first game I saw and thus played on the Commodore 64. A defining moment in the computers history. Absolutely flawless I can still remember those first moments seeing this on the screen and thought back then it would never get better than this. Summer Games 2 is the reason why I bought a C64. Summer Games 2 is the reason why I still play video games today. Thank you Epyx.

Just like Winter Games, used to play this with a bunch of friends, but never played it alone. I usually beat everybody in the javelin throw. I was a super star!

Great game, but I don't see why they put this on the Virtual Console instead of the original. I'd still say this a better game.

The first version of Summer games is a lot more better.

I think the only thing left to say about this is that you can play a version on the Wii virtual console. I think I might close my laptop and play it right now 10/10

How good was the Javelin event in this game! I still boot that event up from time to time. Something about it was incredibly addictive. Watching that Javelin soar through the pretty blue sky so smoothly was really appealing - 101. 31 I think was my best.
Anyway, lets face it, all of these Epyx sports games have aged a bit, perhaps more so than other 64 classics. That aside, Summer Games 2 was my fav of the big 3 and still is a fun game to play, especially for a bit of retro multi player gaming.

Never made it even once.

Not only did EPYX deliver such smashing games they produced what I feel to be the greatest single button joystick of all-time, The 500XJ. It was ergonomical to the extreme with a strong, quick-yet-heavy quasi-trigger button.

Ordered this from an advertiser in Compute! 's Gazette; long before release dates were common knowledge - so I waited *months* for the game to ship. After calling the distributor numerous times, I finally got word that it was on it's way. Whenever I wasn't home I'd call my parents to see if it had arrived yet - I think that was the point where my C64 had become an obsession :)

Incredible sound and graphics, particularly for so early in the 64's lifespan. I also enjoyed how the events were a little more diverse from the track-and-field heavy Summer Games I. Two thumbs up!

I found it odd that the KIXX label never re-issued this on budget in the UK as all the other EPYX multi-events were.

What a masterpiece back in 1985! Had many, many hours of multiplayer fun with this. The game still oozes pure class today!

I still enjoy Winter Games better. I feel bad giving only an 8/10 to this game, but there are more playable games out there.

These games (by Epyx) were MILES ahead of anything else for presentation and graphics. This was a monster of a good-game - as were the others in the series (Summer Games, Winter Games). It's just such a shame that in those days there was no way of saving high scores!!! SG2 brings back great memories - although my FAVE Epyx title had to be Pitstop 2! :commodore:

I've always loved sport games, and this is still one of the greatest to this day. Especially with friends it's great fun for long time.

I remember that this was the game of choice to play among the friends. We would spend a lot of time trying to beat the world record while avoiding being the loser.

Tripple Jump, Javelin, Rowing and Fencing were great events. Very well presented. Best thing of all, though, is the feature that lets you play the events from Summer Games I.

This one was a good one. Although I wasn't a fan of the High Jump and Equestrian events. Mixed with events from SG1, you can have great fun. It says it all about the gameplay when my 6 year old played this recently on my PC and loved it. He has a Playstation 2 but still found this game extremely entertaining.

I didn't get into Summer Games II that much overall (I bought it at the time and took it back). I found Winter Games much better and then World Games beat them all. But despite the rave reviews it left me underwhelmed.

I never found the Epyx sports games as playable as say Hyper Sports. Winter Games was about the only one of all of the Epyx games I liked.

I loved this game and still love it. I wish developers made games today as they used to make them before. Fun, not just nice looking.
G Fresh 2004-05-21
I played SG II before I played SGI. Without a doubt, they're both classics!
Manx Jock 2003-12-06
I think the real essence of this game was the fact that you could play it with ALL of your mates. It was a classic. Maybe the people slagging it off didn't have any mates and that's why they're so bitter :o) Can't be much fun always playing against the droid ;o)
Felix 2003-10-05
Both Summer Games were great games. They are still attractive to play, even almost 20 years after their design
Gluck 2003-09-23
This game sucks. Why is it (or any of the *. Games) in the top 25? Well, because of the guys who played games who had no imagination or real interest in games.
Squonk 2003-09-13
A great thing was that you could play all the events of summer games I and II, this was very clever from Epyx... On thing which was frustrating with SG I was that you have to compete one event or all.. With SG II you could choose which event you would play and that make it really great... I used to love playing it with friends... SG I + SG II together, what a fun !!! And it was far less joystick-destroyer than decathlon.
Sonance 2003-08-04
It says a lot that some 18 years after its original release, this is still the best ever multi-event sports game! The graphics and animation were nothing short of astonishing, lending the game a perfect summery sporting ambience. Ah, for the days when 4 of us would crowd round the C64 to play the cassette version, reading issues of Zzap! 64 while each event loaded up.
DjMythex 2003-08-04
Woooow... This was long, long ago, before I played this Game... It's sorry to can't download this... My C64 is dead so I haven't any chance 2 play it again... Ok.. Bye ZOCKERZ

I saw the title of a package called 'Summer Games'. Thinking it to be the sort of game involving alcahol and fit girls, I purchased it without doubt.

This is a cruel, cruel world, especially to my Commodore 64. I don't know why I even bother with this machine any more, considering the hefty duties of attending fanmail. After all, this game is about as appealing as a box of weetabix on a cold day. No wonder how hard I try to be noble and incredible, these pieces of anal fluid stick me down.
vektor 2003-07-30
As someone said below - nothing like 8 ppl crammed around a computer. The best 'party game' ever. Many Christmas parties were spent playing this game. I owned the rowing record in my group forever. :)
ray daley 2003-07-28
We used to play this and see how bad we could perform for shortest long jump (1cm), shortest throws (javelin 0. 2 m) and for high jump if u go under the bar and not hit it. Best was slowest 100 metres, 11 mins! Top game, the cause of many strained wrists and fights.
Andy 2003-07-10
So good they're still ripping it off. Eight people crammed around a C64 was never comfortable but it was surely what the little brown box was made for. Round my house we had a blanket ban on going Japan because the national anthem went on all fecking night.
pjd 2003-06-24
The guy who reviewed this gave it 9/10 for graphics, 8/10 for sound, 9/10 for playability - and 7/10 overall. Typo or something more sinister? Hmmm? Well???
Felipe 2003-05-20
A great game, but lacks the enchantment of Summer Games I. Very good graphics and music.
Mark Lee May 2003-05-16
A classic game with good music. Some of the best games that Epyx ever made are:Chip's Challenge, Pitstop, The Sword Of Fargould, and Summer Games II
Mikael Tatti 2003-04-25
Back in the old days I was playing this games a lot with my friends we could play it for hours one of the best sport games at that time I think after playing it you had a lot of pain in your arms =)
Mans 2003-02-04
Not as good as summer games 1. Too many crap events like rowing and riding.
callmestanley 2003-01-30
A classic. Many an hour spent trying to out-do my brothers in javellin or rowing. Epyx made some of the best c64 games.
JoJo 2003-01-19
I've never touched a C64 before, but if this game was this good, Eidos needs to learn from Epyx, and make Athens 2004 a modern, 3D version of Summer Games II... And then some. For the moment, this game is the best, until Eidos makes a 3D version...
TWR 2003-01-16
Gives you as much fun as winter games. Great! Brilliant! SMASH HIT !!!
billy 2002-12-03
Man I smashed so many joysticks playing this game. Some because of the events, but others I smashed into the wall when I got beat by my brothers.
Arto Suvitie 2002-11-30
This one brings tears to my eyes :') Absolutely fantastic!
Filmgalning 2002-11-25
Not as good as the first one but very close. I used to play with 8 athletes just to hear the anthems.
Lemon Grande 2002-10-01
This and Monty Mole were the first two games I bought back in 1985... A total classic with awesome gameplay. The national anthems still gives me goosebumps..
Gina 2002-09-08
This was a really awesome game. I wasted a lot of hours with this with absolutely no regrets!
Thorsten 2002-09-02
Where are some many differnet techniques combined in 1 game?
Dont forget the multiplayer-mode - I think the sound could be better - but then: California Games came along... So I shut up ;)
Bandicoot 2002-07-11
Even better than the real thing! (summer games)
Great Great Great!
Chris Crespo 2002-03-28
A classic! Need not say anymore. No other olympiad game comes close in terms of gameplay or graphics. The animations are so smooth, it's so amazing! A gem.

An all-time classic... I can't think of any olympic sports game that beats it.
Azash 2002-01-06
One of the best sports games there is for the Commodore 64/128...
znut 2002-01-04
After summer games 1 I never thought epyx could do better but I think I was wrong what do you think?
