Perhaps a more enjoyable game when played with a friend. However, against the computer, I could never get very far. An interesting idea for a game, but not one that I come back to very often.

Fun idea for a game but only really worked if both players tried to search for all of the objects. Canny players could just wait by the exit after letting the other player do all of the hard work and then kill them and take the items and escape. 1 player was also not as much fun as with a friend.

I'm a big fan of Mad Magazine, and this being an excellent game, I'm very pleased by Spy vs. Spy.

Long live Prohias!

The black and white graphics added something to the Spectrum version but the C64 with its SID chip hammered any spectrum game in that department.

One of my favorite ways to win this game is to goto the airport door room and wait for the other spy to show up with all 4 items and the case, and then force him toward the airport door so that he can't win. I wait until he's gone, collect the case with the 4 items, go through the airport door, and win.

Great game, but the one downside was in 2-player mode. In a hand-to-hand fight, the player on the right could almost always win. My twin brother and I figured this out, so we made a rule that this was not allowed.

Says First Star Software, but it was released by BEYOND in Europe (look game box scan). Why can't LEMON list up several publishers if that was the case?

This game had a tough learning curve for a young kid, but was great once you figured things out.

This is one of the best C64 games imo.

I wish I'd played this more with another human being. I think I might have to start a Commodore club in my area just to play this! Anyone in Dallas want to play - send me a PM

A very very good game, both graphically and conceptually. Fits in very well with the 'spy vs spy' theme also. A major classic. The sequels were not as good in my opinion.

Thank you.

I rarely got to play with another human being. And since the computer player was so fast, I usually just tried to find the airport and ambush him when he brought the briefcase of goods.

One of the most original games I owned for the C64. I loved setting traps and killing the other spy to bump up your score. Great music and sound!

Strange game that I never understood... But it was worth loading just for the music! It has such a unique sentimental feel, even if you here it for the first time... Quite bizarre...

I think they made this one into a Gameboy Color game... I remember playing it at my sister's house. Either Gameboy Color or Advance, I can't remember rightly. I'm not sure if all the sequels were included in the game, but the first one was. I used to play it quite a bit on my c-64, never had the sequels though... But with emulation I can enjoy those too. The music is pretty memorable. I just had a copy of it someone given us, so I didn't have the manual. I was pretty young back then, being born in 1980. This game was pretty awesome. I love the comics too.

Very original concept (A+), great with 2 players. The tune is very cool, but I don't know why. It's a classic but only an 8/10. It's just not a game that I come back to often.

Trivia: you could use the spring trap to send the other spy flying through an open door into the next room. Or for extra comic effect, a long line of open doors.

Two words: ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!

Erm, no. Just kidding. This game is comical, crazy and also a whole lot of fun. Even in 1 player mode. It's even hilarious in 2 player mode as you would not know what your opponent really gets up to.

Spy Vs. Spy. I loved this game! Hours of endless laughs and grins. Sometimes it was at a friend's expense. I miss it!

I seem to remember planting bombs behind paintings... Buckets over doors... And the fabulous SNICKER your guyt makes makes when the other one falls for one... A perfect multiplayer game there never was before this one... It was always new even with only a limited number of tricks and rooms... Priceless game.

One of my all-time favourites! Tune is something I could never forget. A real masterpiece!
JDP 2003-10-31
This game kicked ass, and the mysterious-sounding music was great for the atmosphere of the game.
Sean 2003-10-27
This game is hilarious. Taking the time to set up traps while your buddy walks right into them was very rewarding. Many levels made it different everytime. The single-player was not as much fun as multi-player, however.
devro 2003-09-18
I fell out with a friend playing this game in two player mode! He always lost and threw my compettion pro and broke it. We never never played this game after that in two player mode. He still wont challenge me at when I play it on my pc!

Amazing, especially the two players game!!!
bartosy 2003-07-11
Ok now we talking bout classic games>>>

this game rocked in 2 player mode setting trap for ur friend and then see him fall into it ... Wow.. This must be the verry first simultanious 2 player game that was actually fun to play

a real classic!!

Definetely worth playing, as fun as the original comics in MAD. I think the sequels were pretty good too.
magic-hat 2003-02-05
This game is my all time fav alongside dizzy series and archon, I remember when I used to spend half the weekend off school trying to beat my mate at spy vs spy when we both had commodore64's. BRING BACK THE EIGHTIES!!
Arto Suvitie 2002-11-30
Great fun!
Stefano 2002-11-29
It was a incrdible idea, too fun! In Italy it was a best seller.
Roberto 2002-11-17
I buyed the original tape when I was 14. I spent 15000 lire, that correspond to about 7-8 € ca.
Well, in truth I haven't played it a lot, just because the game lost suddendly his fun when comes to my hands, and there was a lot of game for Commodore 64 out of there that captured my attention.
But i'll keep for ever in my earth a little place for Spy vs Spy (altought I've throwned the original tape trough the window when I sold my Commodore 64 so I think I've wasted my money definetevely).
Finally, I'll never forget this game, the sweet music that still plays in my ears after about 18 years, and the nice and fun sprited charachters that often dead and always reborn caming back from paradise.
Bye little Spy, take care of yourself; there's a plane near the beach awaiting for me...
Queen Frostine 2002-09-09
Despite the limited nature of the gameplay, Spy vs Spy never gets dull. It's a good challenge to work your way up the difficulty levels.
(But it's all too tempting to wait for the other player to gather all the objects, then batter him to death and make a run for the airport. )
Father Brad 2002-07-13
We all remember the Spy vs. Spy trilogy. When I first discovered that these little buggers had spawned their own game based on their Mad Magazine messpionages, I just had to have it. All three games are great. When I bought my first Spy game (the second one - on the island), it was a choice between that or Rambo II or Boulderdash. I made the right choice... Didn't I? I got Arctic Antics (episode 3) as a gift when I was in hospital... And someone copied me episode one. And of all three... Episode one was/is definitely the MOST difficult. Each episode became increasingly easier... With number three being a piece of piss. But what a sweetly rendered piece of piss it was! Hmmm, ah... I love the smell of napalm in the morning, y'all!
DeAdLy_cOoKiE 2002-07-12
Who doesn't know these little fella's? Very fun to play! Same goes for the sequal.
Troy 2002-06-14
The music in this is really special - it would probably sound good as a mobile phonering. The first time me and my brother saw the plane fly right over the info panel at the end had us in kinks. Once in a blue moon I'll put it on to hear the music, and I can't help smirking when that plane flies over.
CyberRatz 2002-06-03
In My Top5 :) I was playing often with my brother... My best weapon was the electric water in top of the door... Difficult the five first time... But after it's a drug
Scott 2002-05-25
Looking back over my childhood, this is the game that stands out for me. Becoming a Grand Master Spy is probably still the best thing I have achieved in my life! :-)
LucasLKS 2002-05-15
This game is intelligent !
Grebz 2002-04-30
Too bad this game is not planned on today's consoles or computers with today's graphic and sound standards! That would be soooo cool! Lot a fun playing this game.
Massi 2002-04-15
Simply the best of all times!
Alec 2002-04-10
This game was the cause of much arental anger and frustration when I was about 6. Playing it with your father who hurls the joystick across the room because he can't cope with me watching both halves of the screen and thus easily winning... Amazing game and fairly advanced for its time.
fishdune 2002-04-09
This game was fun! I enjoyed beating the computer than a human because this lead to serveral real punch-ups.

Why is there no download! I loved this game and I would love to play it. Don't make me get up in the attic to find my commodore.
Oldskool 2002-02-03
I used to think this was game the be-all and end-all for a while. Clever, funny and downright scheming game which'll lose you friends no matter what the outcome!
Knutsen 2002-01-19
Acid rulez!
Brad 2002-01-11
I remember when I could'nt wait to get home from school to play this game as well as the sequels. This truly is one of the great classics.
Kenshiro 2002-01-01
This game is a real classic, even with two sequels its playabilty never really faded. This is the kind of game which should be re-released but as a 2 player online game. It would be great to dump acid on fellow gamers or fry them with electrical cords. One of my all time faves.
