I miss the sort of 80s humour that this game extols. Doubt a game like this would be produced now because people can be OFFENDED lmao. Unfortunately the game isn't the sum of its parts; the strategy elements lack depth and rely on a great deal of luck. However, still well worth playing if you dig 80s nostalgia.

A very original idea and humorous presentation can't hide the fact that this game is sadly just an exercise in repetition, futility and boredom because there's just too much luck involved.

Much better than the reviewers back then gave it credit for.
It can be frustrating to die a fairly random death but you'll have a lot of fun with this. Genuinely made me laugh out loud and very few games have managed that feat.

I loved this game! One of my favourites! I used to play it so much as a kid. I loved seeing my band/singer's song climb up the charts! :)

"it's only rock n roll" got there first. Funny artist names though.

Played this to death back when and still play it every now and then. Loved this game and still do, although I was, am, and always will be proper cak at it! An enjoyable game even if it is hard. :)

By the way this game is implicitly mentioned in the German issue of the Rolling Stone magazine (April 2009, p. 81) as a forerunner of the current wave of games about rockstardom ("Bereits für den C64 gab es Titel, bei denen man eine Rockstar-Karriere planen musste";).

Haha, first game of a new generation - entertaining, but no specific objective. Great fun for a couple of hours, if you were ready for a new kind of game.

It's a funny game, though gets a bit boring after a while.
And well, my rockstar died in a wild orgy.

Not perfect, but fun in *short* bursts.

Very repetitive and frustrating... Flawed in many ways... Still it was quite cool but never managed to do too well in the albums charts...

Played this a lot, but never finished it. Always on the lower positions of the charts... My band, I mean! Tough game for sure, if not impossible to win.

This game was more or less remade, well the concept was, I believe its called Rock Manager, and it has better graphics, you hire a band, blahh all the elements. Its was made last year for p. C. Runs about 39 bucks, order online I believe.

Fun at first, but very repetitive, and the random deaths that occur with publicity stunts can be frustrating.

Did anyone ever finish this?

This game is sick!!! Does anyone have a walkthrough?
elementabuse 2003-03-23
It's the sort of game that could never be remade very well nowadays, because the horribly crude graphics, little SID riffs and all, were all part of the charm. Besides, I'd rather slouch around and insult Sidney Sparkle and Snoozy Sue and the like, than 95% of stars today. If theres a game involving a mickey take of Gareth Gates, it would have to involve knuckledusters, screwdrivers and snooker balls in socks, to make me want to play it.

I just played this game for the first time ever. I found that it is very similar to an older game that is among my favourite games. That older game is called It's Only Rock'n and in contrast to Rockstar Ate My Hamster, It's Only Rock'n has no graphics (only text). Anyway, if you like one of these two games, chances are big that you also like the other one. In It's Only Rock'n, you are the rock star yourself and not the manager as in Rockstar Ate My Hamster. Anyway, you can hire a manager in It's Only Rock'n who can fix you recording contracts and other special deals.

Fantastic game, played this over and over again when a youngster, I can't seem to find a download for my emulator though. ;o(

Was fun for a while... But also extremely repetitive. By adjusting the texts with codemonitor it actually became a whole lot funnier :)

My fave game ever on the 64, there should be a sequal!

And predates all this Pop Idol Stuff.
