Great atmosphere and a very well written story that will keep you at the screen until it’s end.

Not really a game, more a very early Visual Novel that tells a good story in an innovative way. Well worth a look.

This "game" is simply amazing. I missed it when it first came out but recently got a copy and played it on my original C64. The way it draws you in is just unique. Incredibly addictive and is the C64's version of a great SF novel. A must play. It's that good.

Although I haven't finished it yet, I am really enjoying the story. This "Game" comes recommended if you are looking for something a bit different. My advice is to speed up the emulator a little bit though.

Yeah, it not a game as much as it's a interactive novel, but I loved the story.

I wish I could find a complete copy of this game. The boxart is some of the best Activision had.

One of the best adventure games on the C64. Engrossing story and innovative mechanics and layouts: I wish Infocom would have utilized these kind of enhancements. It's a shame that the game has such rigid copy protection that it can't be played on real Commodore hardware. It emulates fine, but us hardcore Commie's are still waiting for The Greatez Crackaz In All Da Landz
to crack this game for us to play.

Despite not being a game Zzap still copped out by not giving it a score.

Like others have said, it isn't so much a game as an interactive novel and as such, it was quite unlike anything that had come before it. I admit that it has limited appeal but if you're a patient person, make yourself a cup of tea and load Portal and you'll be captivated. My only other advice? Keep an eye on the clock or you may discover that you've spent the entire night in front of your 64. Portal is unique and absolutely engaging.

It's a classic story that could easily be a A TV drama, A film and of course it is a novel, but one that can drag you in more. If you were reading a book, would you expect explainations of everything in a book? As in: "... As Susan turned and used the A7200, a form of cooking impliment, the Studer Robot entered and announced a guest was at the door".

In Portal, a Sci Tech routine would light up and explain the history and use of the A7200, if you wish. It would tell you the early problems with the Studer Robot in the History section and in the Personality routine you might know that Susan would not be happy around strangers.

Now that is what I call dragging you into another world! Three thumbs up!

I really consider Portal to be one of the greatest titles for the C64. Like truly innovative titles, Portal is not easily classified as a "game" but as an interactive novel. While this might sound dull on the surface, the story holds up against some of the best authors in the sci-fi genre. It's smart, complex and infinitely facinating to experience. I wish there were more "games" like Portal out there that pushed what the interactive experience could be.

Portal... I would say it's a great game except that it's not a game, it's an interactive novel. I remember playing it hours on end on the C64, always trying to get more & more bits of the story to piece it together. In today's world of quickly accessed information Portal is a relic, but that doesn't stop it from having a great story and a method of delivery that drives the curious to continue playing. :) Give it a try, it starts off slow but is well worth the wait.

Portal is unique - it's not a game, it's interactive fiction at its best. After long trip in space you return to earth only to find it empty - your only source of information is HOMER a dying computer. Roaming the data infrastructures of earth, you begin digging out the shocking truth about where the humans went.

Brilliant - experimental - not for everybody.
