The loading screen picture and (of all things) the loading tape noise creeped me out as a kid so I never played much of it back then. Having played through it now though, it's a pretty good game. The at times wonky collision detection and annoying enemy placement stops it from being excellent. The multiload is horrible on the tape version too, mainly because the loading isn't linear as you go back and forth between levels. Matthew Cannon's soundtrack is only heard on the title screen and cutscenes, but is excellent and better than the Amiga version. Graphics are effectively atmospheric and all in all it's a pretty decent package.

Ridiculously difficult... Spoils the otherwise good graphics and atmosphere. Shame.

This is actually a very good arcade adventure game you should all try. Yes, at first glance it looks hard and unfair at times. And... It is a bit unfair. But after some time you'll get used to it. Apart from that - on lower levels it gets simplier, because there are many places you can refill your energy status. The object is to obtain 3 keys to Midian (underground city), each on every level. After that you need to find Baphomet (who will baptize you), free the Berserkes (they are neighbours, actually) and return to the surface. Later you need to return to Midian once again to rescue your girlfriend. There are two ingame, movie-like sequences that look better than most C-64 game endings. There's great music and interesting, althought bland graphics. There are very atmospheric sound effects - the game's atmosphere is really unique. The game is a hidden gem and don't let the low ratings fool you - Night Breed needs to be discovered once more and this time fully apreciated.

Very good arcade adventure. The game has really nice graphics, and atmospheric music. The biggest horror about this game is the tape multiload - screeching and bleeping its way. One thing I miss about this game is the good old traditional Ocean loader V5, by Jonathan Dunn.

I played this game years and years before I saw the movie, and while I liked the movie when I eventually saw it, I was disappointed because I think this game creates a much better atmosphere. Both the graphics and sound are really good in my opinion (great title music, and immersive sound effects). Even the 'segment loader' doesn't deter me that much, and I've heard the loading noise so often I could probably sing it! Might have been better to design the map with fewer requirements to traverse to the next/previous 'level', as there is a lot of backwards and forwards.

Waste of time licence if ever I seen one! What the hell were Ocean thinking of when releasing this? Blocky garish GFX, naff sound and gameplay that had you hooked for all of 5 seconds! The fact I had this on disk didn't do it any favours either. Begone, foul beast! :yuck:

Unfortunately I was too young to"get" this game. I didn't understand what was going on! One part stands out though; being chased by a boulder (indiana jones style) a message popped up saying "Wrong movie! " or something.

Strange game indeed, one of the few C64 games that had tape noise :)

My emulator version was too shitty, but if you have the actual disk (cracked/uncracked) please send me a mail at [email protected]

Great looks and sounds, tough playability. Somehow they succesfully adapted Clive Barker's perverse horror into a C64 game.

Everything about this game was tainted with a sinister atmosphere. From the chilling opening theme (one of the best ever composed) to the constant barrage of grotesque enemies and images to the wonderfully atmosphereic ambient sound effects, this was the C64 at its technical finest. Even the tapeloader - an incessantly beeping and screeching Spectrumesque number - made my skin crawl. It was an absolute nightmare to play, too, with a clunky control system, pixel-perfect collision detection and endless multiloading. But the sheer aural and visual delights within make it worth persevering. Put simply, it's one of the most atmospheric games ever made.

Very weird game. But if you've seen Clive Barker's even weirder movie you'll get the picture. The game basically is a bitch to play. But the atmosphere is very intersting. Also because it has a great soundtrack by Matthew Cannon.
