This game was one of the first that I bought back in the times and I was really satisfied with it. Great shooter with a nice weapon-upgrade-system and good overall playability.

Check 'Game Art Beyond' for a mindblowing conversion of the Nemesis arcade title pic! Plus a Nemesis music remix that will make you happy! :)

For the year the conversion was released in it is pretty well done. But compared to all the great shooters that came out the following years, or the NES version, it doesn't hold up too well, I'm afraid. The good: it's smooth and overall quite playable; the PAL release has some cool speech; the extra "bones" stage. The bad: crippled soundtrack; no proper mc loading screen; some enemies are char graphics, but not the ones that should have been; expanded sprites were used too much, which makes the game look much more blocky than it had to be; the game is not very challenging.
Overall it's good but not great.

This is my favorite h-scrolling shooter for C64, the only complaint I have is that music is off by default, everything else is perfect!

:lol:MSX-fan Arkhan, ey?:censored:
I have to admit that I like Nemesis 1 on both computers. Both versions have ups and downs..
Ofcourse the jerky scrolling kind of ruins the :fear:MSX:fear:-version, but that detail is compensated by the fact that the game is put on a wonderful cartridge. But just imagine how good Nemesis would be if they designed a cartridge like that Konami mega-rom for the Commie.. That would blow the MSX-version away. Far into the galaxy.

And the Commodore Nemesis is fabulous because almost everything is in it, and all in one load! Plus the graphics, scrolling and enemies are very smooth and pretty nice detailed. :commodore:
Main ship looks best on the Commodore 64! WOO

Giana Brother: I think youre missing out. Just because it block scrolls doesnt mean its worse. Gameplay and audio wise, the MSX one does it better...

and the colored sprites aren't that great on the C64. :-/

... And the title screen... Yeah... Someone forgot to finish coloring it.

plus, no load times from cartridge! WOO

Msx-1"Yeah, 64 version is playable too, but can't be compared to MSX-cartridge! MSX version beats 64 version 100-0 without hands! Play MSX Nemesis through, and you'll see why! "

Monochrome sprites with floaty walking and AWFUL scrolling ... But good music

I think I prefer the C64 version thanks.

Immense gameplay and lot of fun to play, a glorious classic arcade, a very good conversion for commie an example of synthesis of what's the best in its genre. Mandatory

Got this in a bargain bin for a quid and I think it's the best quid I've ever parted with! I totally loved this game and played it till I was dreaming about it! Still remember that speech half way through loading, "Nemesis, the final challenge! " there were a few flaws but I still found this immensley playable and endless fun. :D

The Down and Out 2004-05-18
Why oh why oh... Spells yoyo.
Seriously, why are all one's weapons and power-ups taken away after the ship is destroyed by the nasties?
This aspect of the game is INFURIATING but I suppose it is a pretty good incentive not to get wasted.
Some good graphics on this one, a taste of things to come in the shape of Delta etc.
msx-1 2004-04-23
Yeah, 64 version is playable too, but can't be compared to MSX-cartridge! MSX version beats 64 version 100-0 without hands! Play MSX Nemesis through, and you'll see why! If you are true Nemesis fan, then you might want to know that whole Nemesis-family awaits you on MSX! Nemesis, Nemesis 2, Salamander & Nemesis 3! Apart first Nemesis, all those games have glorious 8-channel music and long intro demos to enjoy!
The Johnster 2003-12-04
You get really far with your first life and then it takes all your weapons off you. If I am so rubbish as to get killed I want them to give me MORE weapons not less! Damn them all!
Riggz 2003-07-03
The voice at the start of the loading sequence was a bit scary! And the game was not quite as good as salamander, but it was very playable. The biggest let down was the same Big Boss at the end of each level. SIGH!
TWR 2003-02-05
Also an old KONAMI MSX release converted to the 64. That version (cartridge) was great and me and DIGI wasted several DAYS on it. The 64 version is OK, not that fantastic but OK for a while. You can at least try it...
james 2002-08-22
Lenny is right - of course armalyte and delta etc.. Are more advanced - thats because they are not as old as nemesis!! They have copied it to a certain extent. This was the original with extra collect weapons etc. If they made a new version of armalyte now it would be far superior of course, but would that make it 'better' than the original?
Retrogamez.co.uk 2002-07-30
A noble attempt at conversion of one the arcades best ever games. Lack of up/down scrolling for some of the levels made the tactics differ from the original, but a worth game. It's follow up SALAMANDER was a far superior conversion.
Huw the Poo 2002-07-29
OK, this is one of THE best shoot-em-ups of all time. Amazing music, too (but not enough of it). I can still remember the cheat for this game!
Lenny.Valentino 2002-07-18
This is a classic, because it caused a revolution in shoot-em-ups: extra weapons to collect. Fact is that the games mentioned by Bocu where ALL inspired by Nemesis, and the case of Salamander its even the official follow-up.
And last not least Nemesis simply plays very well.
Boçù 2002-03-06
This isn't bad (although the keyboard to activate weapons was annoying), but has anyone played Armalyte or Denaris or Salamander or Delta?
Why is this so high and those much better games so low?
Sid 2002-02-20
Bloody good music, not as good as Armalyte though. Peronal I prefer Enforcer in front of Nemesis, but if you like a avrage One player shoot-em-up this will be good as well.
