Programming two of the very worst commercial games on the system is an immense achievement but Mike Hutchinson managed it with this and Hard Drivin'. As for this game; well the 3D perspective is poorly implemented by ultra blocky sprites and generally too little is happening on the screen at any time to create any excitement whatsoever.

Not to mention the bizarre situation where you can discharge your weapon at a target and move the crosshair only to find that the bullet magically disappears. The only way to prevent this is to keep the crosshair on the enemy after the shot until the game recognises that the enermy has been hit.

The game is a monotonous trudge through samey levels and incredibly repetitive and deepy flawed gameplay.

Oh my god! This is awful! This is a game from 1990 and graphics are pathetic (the game over screen is like it was drawn using ascii-blocks in Basic) and very flickery and slow. Gameplay is monotonous and extremely boring. Hitting enemies is mostly a matter of chance, because shooting at them will not always kill them and when they do get killed they explode. Enemies hiding behind objects can be shot right through those objects... This one is really really bad.

Graphics: 2/10
Sound: 5/10
Gameplay: 3/10

Overall: 3/10

Or try: Space Gun from Ocean, that one is pretty neat as well!

Nooo! My advise would be: Operation Wolf instead of Line of Fire. Operation Thunderbolt (Blunderbolt) is also extremely terrible! That game is a waste of good C=64 memory and graphics (and my Fl. 49, 95 back in 1990). Besides, you can even see a crosshair in that dreadfull creation!

Operation Wolf on the other hand gives almost the exact feeling that the coin-op version did! What a rush. :pirate:

Granted, sprite scaling gun games were a tough one to convert on the C64, but this game is still just deplorable... If you have to play a game like this, go try Operation Thunderbolt.

A brave effort, but come on, even the arcade machine was rubbish. Yet another example of the bad old days where they'd buy up any old arcade license.
