Another piece of filler on the Rainbow Arts 5th Anniversary compilation. Great title music, but the gameplay is mediocre. Jinks tries to be a mash-up between Breakout and Pinball but fails at both. Your "spaceglider" can flip from flat surface to angled surface - which is neat, but the "space probe" physics seems to favor gravity a lot so much of the bouncing action either doesn't happen at all or it goes wild and becomes uncontrollable. The four levels are horizontally very long and more often than not you end up chasing after the ball horizontally while being unable to stop it. You can see all four levels once you leave the first one and try to rack up points, but the gameplay being as boring as it is doesn't really serve to motivate repeated play or any high-score attack competition.

The nice intro music raises your hopes for something interesting and original, and if the latter is certainly there, the game itself is a total bore. A weirdo's breakout mixed in with elements of a tedious pinball, it's just no fun chasing a ball over several screens.

Probably the most laid-back arcade game ever released for the C64, and perhaps also the most psychedelic. Starting from the soundtrack to some of the baddies, which are in only few cases actually bad, as they typically let you survive, you may relax and enjoy the strange atmosphere.

You will also have a hard time losing a life. This game is actually about mastering the controls, which is not the most exciting thing in the world. But it's fine for a few rounds there and then; 6/10.

It's called Jinks because the game is ... Well... Jinxed.
It's just a bit boring. Interesting gameplay ideas. Nicely presented. However, it just doesn't come together to be anything compelling to hold anyone's interest. It's just a very bizarre breakout game that becomes boring and somewhat pointless in minutes, and there's very little content. Have fun chasing the ball as it flies off the screen too... *Yawn*

Yes, we never got the plot - it would have made more sense as a budget game with maybe less baroque graphics and sounds - then maybe we wouldn't still ask 21 years later: What was this one about in the first place?

The game-concept is quite interesting, but it's pointless as you always hang around in the same boring 4 levels, just for scoring. Controls are not too difficult, but very annoying.
Digit-title-tune by Chris Hülsbeck is great.

Great game. The graphics are colourful and superb. Music and sound is of top class. Game-play is fun and addictive.

Another game I totally damn forgot about, I regonised it after listening to the SID. Gosh the speech is impressive.

When it came out it had some innovative new ideas for arkanoid style games but the fun didn't last long. Slightly worse than the Amiga version this game will be remembered for the music rather than the gameplay.
if you like the genre play traz!

I got this game first when I bought the "5th Anniversary" collection from Rainbow Arts. This game is really cool, so don't build your opinion opon the poor graphics - it's real fun to move the ball with help of your triangle around bumpers and other stuff making you nervous! Try it!
