A game that I just loved to play, in my younger years. :)

Reviewing this today is hard as there is a far superior version available on the 64 now. I thought it was over-rated at release, especially given how much was missing. Still, whats here is very playable if a little too difficult.

Ghosts 'N Goblins was my favourite arcade game when it came out in 1985. Although I was terrible at it I still loved it. When I saw the adverts in Zzap!64 that it was finally coming to the C64 I was so excited. Unfortunately my pocket money at the time was about £2 a week so I had to trade in some of my older games to get it. But boy was it worth it. It really captured the feel of the Capcom arcade version and most importantly played like a charm.

Playing it all these years later it's still pretty good though not 100% perfect, made more obvious since the quite recent upgraded C64 version which gets as close to the arcade experience as I think the C64 is capable of.

Still, Ghosts 'N Goblins '86 remains one of the best arcade conversions on the C64.

After embarrassing myself at the milk bar playing the coin-op I eventually obtained the Ghosts 'n Goblins cassette and vowed to redeem my honor. This is a fantastic conversation of the arcade (even with missing level) the first thing that struck me was the awesome music it adds so much atmosphere and is possibly best out of all conversions. The sprites are excellent as well and the gameplay was just as hardcore. My plan to become an expert at this game at home and then use that skill on the arcade was fanciful at best. I haven't played the remake of this but I hear it's supposed to be better. Ghosts
n Goblins is an all-time classic that any serious gamer must experience. Brilliant.

Great, brutally difficult, and looks great.
I had this game back in the day and it was great but glitchy. Screen glitched, especially in certain areas.
I got it again about a year ago, and this copy glitched too. Is that an NTSC issue maybe?
I downloaded the fixed version and it is perfect.
Anyway, I love it glitches and all, great conversion. :)

A very good game. Great graphics, sound FX, music and most of all, atmosphere! Very challenging though - I'm sure I recall destroying about three joysticks in frustration back in the day <oops>. Played again recently and it still stands up as one of the best games I had on my C64.

I've never seen the NES version (I may check it out on youtube later) But the C64 version is better than all the other 8-bit versions I've seen. It misses out levels but it's still fractionally bigger than the spectrum 48k and Amstrad versions. Even though the graphics of the C64 are more blocky that the speccy version the overall look is still nicer because of the better colours. The sound effects and music are great too on the C64. The game play on C64 and speccy versions is similar. The Amstrad version is awful. One hit and you die instead of losing your armour and the scrolling is terrible.

Actually one of the better arcade conversions on the C64.
But insanely difficult

Great graphics, sound and music. Challenging platformer, addictive, but can be hard at times as it requires you to be "spot on" in your moves. Can be very unforgiving which can make things frustrating.

One of my all time favorites. Up there with Wizball!
Comes close to the Arcade without the quorters.
I had the Newlook crack version which I like to this day

Had a few bugs in the controls (especially while jumping on platforms) and it was kinda difficult, but had a nice atmosphere and good music. Though they cut out so much from the arcade that it looks like an unfinished game or a demo; there's not even the real final boss! It ends on third level. What a rip off... "Ghouls 'n' Ghosts" was so much better.

Good conversion of the Capcom retro classic. Game play is right, graphics are good and Mr. Cooksey's music fits the game well.

I didn't realise Mark did the music for this. I worked with Mark on a couple of Gamegear/NES titles in the early 90's. I still see him either in the local boozer or walking around with an iPod stuck in his ears! ... Nice chap, mad as a bucket of custard!

One of the first "modern" games: A couple of nice tunes, a number of levels with varying graphics, and the graphics as such were steps ahead from the standard just one year before - on the same machine. This one shows how quickly the evolution of game programming took place back then.

In that sense, this one is maybe the oldest game that doesn't look dated WITHIN the Commie universe.

I loved this game, an instant classic specially for his music! The best tune of all ghost's n goblins. When I played the C64 version I didnt know there was an arcade conversion so I enjoyed purely as is it (that missing levels didnt matter to me, Oh! Blessed ignorance)
This is truly an "atmospheric" game.

This one is a pretty good conversion, but one has to admit that the whole craze about it is due to the fact that it was at the cutting edge when it was released... To be soon passed over by countless arcade style game on the Commie that spotted good graphics and music.

To cut things short: Would it have been released in 1989, it would have been probably largely ignored. Therefore it's no classic.

A cracking conversion. I didn't realise until recently that it was missing levels from the arcade machine, but then, I always found it so tough that even with a reduction in the amount of levels, I was never going to be too disappointed.

Maybe not the perfect conversion around, but graphically coloured and well animated. One of the greatest examples in terms of playability and addiction.

Good, but like Commando, suffered because they cut many levels out. What you've got is something that LOOKS like Ghosts 'n' Goblins, PLAYS like Ghosts 'n' Goblins, but most certainly is NOT Ghosts 'n' Goblins. I'd say it's a rather naff conversion, but it's still a good game in its own right. Other than that, the worst thing about it is it's far too easy, like Commando, and you could play it for hours without getting game over because of that.

Sorry for not finishing the comment, but music is great anyways, so this would deserve better than a "5", due to being short. Again, Commodore 64 Arcade conversions are not perfect, in fact nobody's perfect.

I just finished this game, I'd never played it before so I had no idea what to expect.
I had read good comments about it beforehand though so I was pretty disappointed.
I fail to see why many people think of this game as a classic - the controls are bad, collision detection is bad (I fell through platforms many times), it's really short and doesn't have much challenge.
I don't think it's bad per se but it could have been a lot better.

The is like one of *the* C64 games really. So cool. Never played the original, so can't compare (probably wasn't too close but who cares).

Had the coolest "poke" for it - seemed to exchange the zombine logic for the moving platform logic so the zombies picked you up and carried you. Very funny.

And the music.

Bubble bobble, Ghost and goblins, Commando. Forever etched in my mind.

did you play the original arcade game ?
I finished it so many times and this title is total different.
Not only the graphic sux, but the sound is different.
then, only 4 levels!!
The enemy have not intelligence, but stupid sprite that move.
Ghouls'n Ghost is 100 times better.

Hard? Impossible?.. Not a chance?.. Like Commando you can easiily repeatly complete this over and over again once you done it once the first time. The only problem I had it when it would flicker (disappearing enemie sprites), 3 quarters the way on level 1, and end of boss, level 4, were only trickly parts.

Yeah, I liked this game, In fact I liked it better than the arcade version and that's saying something! Nice(ish) graphics, cool sound, and lots of bouncing about jumping on gravestones and platforms while shooting the baddies. Always thought that flame type weapon was a pile of shite, but in some parts you just had to have it.
Programming could have been better as there were quite a few flickering sprites if I remember rightly(sometimes they even disappeared altogether) But still very playable and fun. Great stuff.

Definitley a great port from the arcade, despite the lack of some levels/screens, but overall a decent rendition. Always loved the "Invincible"
trick with each jumping cyclops at end of each level. Good stuff, and I played it religiously

What a game, this game drove me insane for years, but looking back it was absolutely excellent!!!
The Down and Out 2004-05-17
This is the kind of kit that epitomises eighties gaming.
Arcade conversions were always very hit or miss but thankfully the dudes at Elite got it right this time.
Like all good games G n' G is frustrating yet exhilarating in equal measures. Amusement arcades in the late seventies and eighties were fantastic places to be but now good machines are few and far between. Try and spot one the next time you pass an arcade, sandwiched between dozens of grubby 'one armed bandits'.
FronzyTheBeast 2004-04-12
I agree with @Madcutter, this game is not hard, yes its takes practice, but I could complete numbers of times, it one go, there are a few trickly areas, my biggest nightmare was the fire-bridge. But overall, stunning graphics, brillant in-game music/soundfx in one. Ok disappointing ending-sequence then repeats, but...
smell 2004-04-11
The arcade has the same CPU,
only a better resolution
madcutter 2004-04-09
Lol you guys crack me when you say the graphics suck because its nothing like the arcade. Of course it can't be. 1982 home computer hardware is not gonna be able to hang with 1985 arcade hardware. You have to look at its graphics relative to all other C64 games, and it kicks ass. Love the title screen, the trees, the grass, the ogre at the end of stage 1, the blue windows hiding in the shadows after the falling platform in stage two... Like I said quality. And to all those that say its too hard? Maybe you suck at video games. Pick another hobby. Or try playing a game for more than five minutes. I completed this game without dying once. You wanna know what is a really hard game? Green beret! Couldn't complete that one without cheating despite playing it thousands of times. Oh, and the music is great...
Hannu Grén 2004-04-08
As much as I have seen and personally tested this game (I admit straight away that I haven't spent terribly time with this), I think this game is okay but not the best on 64. The sonics sound nice, GFX work, but the playability is probably too hard for my taste. Not the worst of the world though. (it might be that I should just shut up, as I've never seen the arcade original... )
Martin 2004-04-08
In my opinion the C64 port of this game is even better than the acarde (or the similiar) Amiga version. At first, it's a single load game - do you remember waiting for ages on loading multiload games (1541 was slow, tape was slow, too - and often terminated loading with load errors)? Not only therefore it has some advantages over other genre games, to name the better ones: Mayhem in Monsterland (multiload, worse music (than Gosts'n Goblins), Turrican (multiload, no in game music).
I played Ghosts'n Goblins for ages, although I could only complete it with an unlimited lives trainer ;).
David G 2004-04-07
I though this game was great, but why did it have to be so hard. Im not a bad gamer but I don't think I ever survived longer than two minutes! Im new to the internet(I know, abit slow on the uptake), but I think the Lemon site is great. Cheers.
Idontbelievethis 2004-04-06
Have we got some loser multiple voting this game because why is this game never mentioned in the forums then? And always no. 1, wake up (and too this loser), look at it, try playing it, and believe this is absolute pure shit! How Elite got away with this rubbish is beon me!

Guys! Guys! Whats with all these people giving Ghosts & Goblins poor reviews?? Eghads... Were you people around in 1986/ 1987 ??! A game you'll never be tired of playing, a superb conversion from the arcades.

I used to play this game for hours. There were bugs in this game as it seemed to have some graphic artifacts and the game slowed down sometimes. However, despite some flaws it was a fun game with impressive graphics. I especially remember playing this game on Halloween night in 1988!
Steve Beldi 2004-03-18
It's sad that hindsight can be less that 20/20.
When it was current, G&G was state of the art. We're spoiled these days, but I can remember spending hours playing this game. Gameplay still stands up and it's still one of the best side-scrollers available. Get a life guys!
JasonFry 2004-03-17

I can't understand why this game is rated in the top of this list because the graphic was increadible bad, also the plot of this game was the worst I have ever seen. So anyway this game sucks and I wouldn't recomend waist your valuable time in downloading this peace of shit.

Martin 2004-03-07
I think this is really the best game on the C64. Great graphics, great (also in game) music and sound effects, fits completely in C64 memory (technically a masterpiece), and very playable. Part 2, Ghouls'n'Ghosts, is less playable and multiload, but Graphics and sound are good in that game, too (though not as good as in Ghosts'n'Goblins, in my opinion).
chancer 2004-03-05
And how many have u played ghouls n ghosts? Part 2 of g&g.. Even better. Yet it isn't even rated in the top 50.. Probably as most of you had gone over to using amiga's.. Lol
chancer 2004-03-03
This is a top conversion, but its not the best game on the 64. NO way.. Armalyte by cyberdyne... Mayhem in monsterland by apex... To name but 2. If you played it in the arcade, maybe your a little biased. I used to play it as well. I ain't dissing the game, its a great game just I think techically there are better games.. Each to their own tho...

This is the game I was playing when I was a kid...

My good friend, my neighbor had a C64, I was from the family that could not afford to buy stuff like that back then, anyway I have golden memories from this title and I shall respect this game till I die.

Still today when I play this game I like it.

Great game.

An excellent arcade conversion with a superb atmospheric soundtrack. Very frustrating at times - although the monster at the end was a piece of piss to beat and the ending a little disappointing. I'm very surprised this is currently No 1! I wouldn't have it in my top 10. Its good - but not that good.

Never be too hard on classic games. It's certainly a typical Butler-conversion in that half of the original coin-op is missing. As in COMMANDO, Butler left out certain levels so as not to be forced to load additional stages halfway into the game. Yet that's absolutely excusable in view of the fact that GnG let players simply pick up the gauntlet and do it. And that's the other Butler-characteristic: playability! Whether it's GnG, Commando or even Power Drift, Butler's games were enjoyable. That's what they were meant to be and Chris Butler simply never let down any consumer. This release had substantial impact on the JumpNRun-scene.

Crackin' stuff. Nuff said
Boçù 2003-12-22
A very good conversion by 1986 standards, but it didn't stand well the test of time. Gfx and sound are good, but gameplay is nothing special, plus it's ridiculously easy and spoiled by the end of levels' invincibility bugs. How can people say that it's the best C64 game ever or that it's better than the (still awesome) coin-op original is beyond me. 6/10.
Monty 2003-12-22
A lot of better than the arcade or the NES version.
the game was hard but never frustrating unlike the other versions.
the missing 3 levels are ot really worse cause there are weak at the original.
chris butler shows again that he knows the C64 and make like ever an great arcade conversation.

from this game there is an complete walkthrough video available on my homepage.

Top arcade conversion complete with nice spooky music.
Figgerty 2003-11-30
Excellent conversion, one of the top 3 games for the C64
Shaun 2003-11-12
Looks great, sounds great, plays great... Nice loading screen and it's got a high score table :D
Ahmad 2003-11-03
When I first started playing this, I could never finish it, but right now I find it easy to finish. Cool game.
Faraz Hussain 2003-10-24
I actually finished this game several times. It was not hard once you got past the second level and that annoying fire bridge.
Thus Spoke Oberon 2003-10-16
Nice conversion, cool graphics, a bit blunt sprite moves but... Frustratingly, if not ridiculusly hard! Is there anybody in this world who's managed to finish this game? (the same applies to the coin-op version) If so, would you share your wisdom with me?
Max 2003-10-03
Splendido.
music_maniac1965 2003-09-25
Killer game this. I love it even now on the emulator. I have the real thing in the spare bedroom, and it still gets a playing. Talk about lastabillity! Hahahahaha

for an 8bit game, this deserves its 10/10! This game owns !
zuko 2003-09-23
It wouldn't suprise me if the people here slagging this game off are from world of Spectrum or somewhere
sand_monkey 2003-08-24
Ah there's nothing like a good game ol' Ghosts 'N' Goblins!

Get improved Ghost'n Goblins games by sending me a mail at [email protected] !!! Boycott trendy emulator shit - Get the real thing !!! The 64 is ALIVE !!!
Lemonope 2003-07-23
Why does most people say this game was so hard? The only trickly parts I know off is jumping off the moving platform in level 2, and jumping from the clouds in level 3, the rest is a piece of cake!
TheForce 2003-07-23
Maybe THE best platform game on the C64 (together with g. Giana sisters and ghouls 'n Ghost), very hard and very fun to play !
a real classic
Track 42 2003-07-22
I played this game during the late 80ies and it took me half a year to go throug. Funny enough I played it again three months ago (15 years later) and managed it to walk through to level 3. I still knew which enemies come from where... Am I brainwashed??? ;-)
Robert 2003-07-05
Very hard game to manage... I played it recently and I was surprised over the graphics though. Not too good. It looked better when I was a kid, but the times and tides are slowly changing they say :)...
Colin Baynham 2003-06-30
A great game, very hard though. Did have the game but lost it, so went out and bought it for the GBA.
icon 2003-06-29
Well, this game has blocky graphics, the gameplay is far from the arcade and it missing levels. But still, I love it. One of C64's true classics!
xxx 2003-06-27
"I disagree with you all. This game was no way like the Arcade, ugly blocky graphics, almost no gameplay. Probably the worse game for the C64. 1/10", Tommy said.
TOMMY, GET A GUIDE DOG!!!
noone 2003-06-25
Very good game, good graphics but way too hard... Good but not superior game... It pales a little if compared to superior classics like Elite, Archon or Paradroid
nevertheless still lots of fun ... Give it a try
PrFalken 2003-06-25
Very good game. But it was frustrating to don't have all arcade levels. It's pity that elite never did a sequel for this game including missing level... And the music was sublime!
Signal 2003-06-16
Ah, I remember playing this when I was a kid, the game still kicks ass! The soundtrack is great too!
TBC 2003-06-11
What a wonderful game! A true 10! Try it and dive in the real C64 feeling!
Jakit 2003-06-09
True Fun!
Like many arcade conversions on the C64, were they true to the original... ? AHEM, no! WAS it fun?? YES!! The game was hard and the graphics somewhat blocky, but a great game none the less. Kooky, Quirky, Fun, and ADDICTIVE!!! 9 out of 10 for the 8-bit wanderkind...
Andy 2003-06-08
Someone has quoted that the graphics are ugly and blocky compared to the arcade, well of course they are. Why do people compare an arcade machine to a 64K machine?!?. The Commodore 64 version of G + G is easily the best 8bit version of the game, pisses all over the Speccy and Amstrad versions.
Miguel Torres 2003-05-24
A good game, but not number 1!!!
7/10
Felipe 2003-05-20
Not as good as the coin-op, but still one of the best C64 games. Note the cover is, however, one of the worst ever made!
mabuse 2003-04-24
10 of 10, nothing more to say.
Jolly Roger 2003-04-24
A not so faithful conversion from the legendary coin-op.
Still a great game, thought.
zooom 2003-04-11
WHAT ?? Hey neptuniuma !
are you sure you played Ghost n goblins ?
RATING: 8/10 !!!
neptuniuma 2003-04-11
Pure crap !!! Bad conversion and very hard to play ... Crap 3/10
Tommy 2003-04-10
I disagree with you all. This game was no way like the Arcade, ugly blocky graphics, almost no gameplay. Probably the worse game for the C64. 1/10
Briibryie 2003-04-10
This is one of the coolest games.. I thin it's almost as weird as bounder and almost as infinitely playable as lazy jones
Rat King 64 2003-04-10
I remember this as being good a great conversion of the arcade game. Be warned though, its very hard (just like its sequel).
Lemonope 2003-04-05
I don't play this game anymore. But its still certainly one of my favourite C64 Games.
Casimodo 2003-03-24
I love the atmosphere of the game.
The vibrato and other effects used in the music are so cool...
Matt Cribbin 2003-02-20
The best version of this classic you will find anywhere. Loved the arcade machine, this is the next closest thing. Its got it all!!
Antichrist 2003-02-18
Too easy... (but still a great game)
My brother made several versions of this game, which made it more fun to play.
Richard of The New Dimension 2003-02-17
I remember playing this game in the arcades. I also remember the C64 conversion, when I had Hit Pak disk for Christmas (which I threw away years ago, due to the disk corrupt). I can't believe what I missed. Such a great game. 8/10
Greese 2003-02-12
The greatest game in the world could never be beaten by any other game.
This deserves to be No. 1
Fantastic Game!
Zorbot the Flanknop 2003-01-31
I liked this game back in the day, but I felt it was WAY too hard! I loved the music and graphics - but the playability was ROUGH. I mean one touch and your DEAD. It took months and months to even get halfway past level one. More frustrating than challenging, but I was somehow possesed to play it over and over back then. I would rate this as one of the GOOD C64 games, but certainly not one of the BEST.
Lemonope 2003-01-17
This is the best game ever for C64. You couldn't imagine it any better. BTW. Its amazing a very few ppl don't like this Game because its nothing compared to the Arcade. This is more playable than all other conversions put together. FANASTIC GAME! ...
Itekei 2003-01-17
Spooky game that still gives me the creeps. Pretty tricky to play which bothered me a bit.
TWR 2003-01-16
I think this is the game I've played the most, mainly because I got a whole lot of versions of it. It is a GREAT game, one of the best for the C64.
Andrew Lindop 2003-01-10
I remember sitting in a dark bedroom and waiting for the game to load up with anticipation. GNG was and still is one of my all time favourite games. It is quite simple but was very atmospheric and spooky and amzing fun back in 1986 I remeber being allowed to stay up till nearly 11pm to play. I have downloaded GNG for most emulators just to try it out but I love my C64 version best.
Andy 2002-12-29
One of the best conversions on any 8-bit system. Nuff said
Cato 2002-12-21
Fantastic game! I took my gravis game-pad, but I did not reach the necessary precision that I've reached in 1987 with my competition-pro joystick...
fabrizio 2002-12-18
Really good game... Perfect conversion... A masterpiece

( I love 2D platform )

ciao!
Metin Seven 2002-12-08
Very cool memory! The programmer Chris Butler had done the great graphics himself too. He was one of my big examples before I started creating games for the Amiga.
Zoran Petrovski 2002-12-04
Great music! Great game!
i hope one day some one will remake all the good C=64 games on a PC, but not in 3D!!!
-2D RULES!! =)
Arto Suvitie 2002-11-29
Fantastic!!!
Gianluca Tabbita 2002-11-26
I got this game in November 1986 but.. Guess what... I'm about to disagree with all of you: I was completely dissatisfied with it back then. I remembered the original coin op to be a music box of magical graphics and gameplay and this conversion looked absolutely dull in comparison. That was one of my saddest days in my quest to bring my favourate arcades home. Things was going to change only with japanese consoles in late '80..
Hades 2002-11-15
Fantastic game, great music.
and a nice bug in the last screen. The dragon can not hit you when you stay right in the screen.
Giles 2002-11-02
Faithful conversion of an all time classic arcade game. Spent the entire xmas of 1987 playing this when I got my first C64.
Al 2002-10-19
This game probably uses the C64 resources to the last binary number. Could NOT be better... And the music kicks ass!
Verner 2002-10-19
They surely picked the right coder(s) for this Fanastic Game !
jones 2002-10-08
Very good game
Spiderkeys 2002-10-06
This 10/10 Game is great but also funny because its like riding a bike, when u learn how to ride a bike u never forget and when u first complete the 4 levels you can play this again 15 years on and still complete it just as easy! Who needs Trainers or Unlimited Lives :D !!!???
Spiderkeys 2002-10-06

Psycho Ste 2002-10-02
Brilliant! Awesome! Incredible conversion! I couldn't believe how close this was to the coin op when I first played it! To those who are going on about the Amiga version, can I just point out that that version came out two or three years later and the Amiga was a 16-bit machine! Waddya expect?! Back in 87, this was as close as you were gonna get to GNG at home... And then some!
Igor 2002-09-18
One of the best platforms games for the C64, great graphics&music and playability.
Sean 2002-09-17
Man, this was a big game!!! But it sure was fun , and a great remake of the arcade game.
James Gray 2002-09-14
One of the best games the world ever have seen!
Lonestarr 2002-09-09
Althought very hard to play (like the original) this is one of the best C64 game! As some other reviewers, I prefer this pixel-proof version to the original arcade.
HL 2002-09-07
Always thought this game was way too hard. Played it very very much but NEVER got past level one...
Khizar 2002-09-07
This is one of the best games on the C64, an absolute classic. Extremely hard but it was well worth playing because it was so damn addictive!
Ryan 2002-09-07
I have fond memories of this game. Used to turn the sound up real load... Ah the good ol' days.. ,
Darren Rozier 2002-09-07
This is probably as good a conversion that the good old C64 would allow, great graphics and music, it's authenticity blew me away when I first saw screenshots of this back then. A great C64 classic, although nowadays I would be more likely to fire up MAME to play it than my C64.
Sinclair3 2002-09-07
Wonderful game.

I love to play it.
mannie fresh 2002-09-07
Great game... Quite hard too!!
Arsenal 2002-09-04
Have to agree with you guys, this is one of my alltime favourites. Good graphics, excellent sound and an addictive gameplay.
This game kept me sane during my 15 months of service in the german airforce.
Delbert Duck 2002-09-02
Brilliant! Couldn't put it down - my addiction to the arcade machine fuelled my LOVE of this game - but why do some compare it to the Amiga version?
Muesli 2002-08-30
Everything is perfect. The soundtrack (wonderful), the graphics (nearly identical to the arcade version), the gameplay (just like the original). A must have...
dumbflag 2002-08-18
One of those rare instances where everything comes together. The game plays wonderfully and the graphics are great. The music is perfect and sets the atmosphere perfectly as well as being one of the best tunes the 64 produced. A true classic.
Anders Sällstedt 2002-08-05
Great game except the quite annoying steering but otherwise a real classic. 9 out of 10 points.
Bandicoot 2002-07-08
I did not like this version very much! The Amiga version was great and near to the arcade version!
Adolf 2002-06-08
I still remember this game. It was great.
goblin 2002-04-10
Great classis 64 game... Get the cracked version by Newlook, which is the best copy out there.. Spend hours and hours playing this classis
fishdune 2002-03-20
Its old now but its still excellent. Very well detailed game and great sound and music. Better still its so playable. No other hortizonal shootem up game came close to this classic. Ghouls'n'ghosts came later but suffered
drmwoz 2002-03-02
Addictive but eventually frustrating classic. The music will be with you for years after
Oldskool 2002-01-31
A C64 owner's staple. Difficulty is pitched just right (despite the end-of-level bosses being easy if ye know how) and it's still got that "just one more go" appeal.
c64 freak 2002-01-27
One of the best if not THE best arcade conversions ever done on the old 64!
Very addictable, a must download.
Craig 2002-01-24
A fine conversion to a great game - I also found the other elite title conversions a bit dissapointing but this was a return to form - the hardness did not distract for me - this was a challange that I came back to - well done on the music also Mark Cooksey was underatted in my opinion - Fantastic
Tommy E 2002-01-02
This game was one of the biggest reasons to why I bought a C64!
Decent conversion and a playable game.
tom simons 2001-12-29
Brilliant game... Call me mad, but I prefer this over the arcade machine !
ManoWarrioR/VISDOM 2001-12-29
My all-time favourite C64 game.
And the Music is from Mark Cooksey, not Hubbard !
Peanutuk 2001-12-29
The best game on the C64 - oh it is! Great eirre music and instant but long lasting gameplay. A great central character (unlike say, The Last Ninja) in a game that requires you to really concentrate if you want to get through it.

Great stuff.
Kornylius 2001-12-29
Very playable arcade conversion. Features some of Rob Hubbard's finest compositions!
