Overall: 9
Playing it all these years later it's still pretty good though not 100% perfect, made more obvious since the quite recent upgraded C64 version which gets as close to the arcade experience as I think the C64 is capable of.
Still, Ghosts 'N Goblins '86 remains one of the best arcade conversions on the C64.
n Goblins is an all-time classic that any serious gamer must experience. Brilliant.
I had this game back in the day and it was great but glitchy. Screen glitched, especially in certain areas.
I got it again about a year ago, and this copy glitched too. Is that an NTSC issue maybe?
I downloaded the fixed version and it is perfect.
Anyway, I love it glitches and all, great conversion.
But insanely difficult
Comes close to the Arcade without the quorters.
I had the Newlook crack version which I like to this day
In that sense, this one is maybe the oldest game that doesn't look dated WITHIN the Commie universe.
i played when I was a kid,
this version and the version arcade. They 're very similar
very good !!
This is truly an "atmospheric" game.
To cut things short: Would it have been released in 1989, it would have been probably largely ignored. Therefore it's no classic.
I had read good comments about it beforehand though so I was pretty disappointed.
I fail to see why many people think of this game as a classic - the controls are bad, collision detection is bad (I fell through platforms many times), it's really short and doesn't have much challenge.
I don't think it's bad per se but it could have been a lot better.
Had the coolest "poke" for it - seemed to exchange the zombine logic for the moving platform logic so the zombies picked you up and carried you. Very funny.
And the music.
Bubble bobble, Ghost and goblins, Commando. Forever etched in my mind.
did you play the original arcade game ?
I finished it so many times and this title is total different.
Not only the graphic sux, but the sound is different.
then, only 4 levels!!
The enemy have not intelligence, but stupid sprite that move.
Ghouls'n Ghost is 100 times better.
Programming could have been better as there were quite a few flickering sprites if I remember rightly(sometimes they even disappeared altogether) But still very playable and fun. Great stuff.
FANTASTIC!
trick with each jumping cyclops at end of each level. Good stuff, and I played it religiously
Arcade conversions were always very hit or miss but thankfully the dudes at Elite got it right this time.
Like all good games G n' G is frustrating yet exhilarating in equal measures. Amusement arcades in the late seventies and eighties were fantastic places to be but now good machines are few and far between. Try and spot one the next time you pass an arcade, sandwiched between dozens of grubby 'one armed bandits'.
only a better resolution
I played Ghosts'n Goblins for ages, although I could only complete it with an unlimited lives trainer
Score: 0
A game you'll never be tired of playing, a superb conversion from the arcades.
When it was current, G&G was state of the art. We're spoiled these days, but I can remember spending hours playing this game. Gameplay still stands up and it's still one of the best side-scrollers available. Get a life guys!
I can't understand why this game is rated so high.
My number one game is "last ninja II"...
My good friend, my neighbor had a C64, I was from the family that could not afford to buy stuff like that back then, anyway I have golden memories from this title and I shall respect this game till I die.
Still today when I play this game I like it.
Great game.
10/10
... My father, at the time, plays several times this game...
i'm only 20 years old, but I remember all the games...
commodore 64's a slice of my past. Forever
the game was hard but never frustrating unlike the other versions.
the missing 3 levels are ot really worse cause there are weak at the original.
chris butler shows again that he knows the C64 and make like ever an great arcade conversation.
from this game there is an complete walkthrough video available on my homepage.

for an 8bit game, this deserves its 10/10! This game owns !
a real classic
TOMMY, GET A GUIDE DOG!!!
nevertheless still lots of fun ... Give it a try
Like many arcade conversions on the C64, were they true to the original... ? AHEM, no! WAS it fun?? YES!! The game was hard and the graphics somewhat blocky, but a great game none the less. Kooky, Quirky, Fun, and ADDICTIVE!!! 9 out of 10 for the 8-bit wanderkind...
7/10
Still a great game, thought.
are you sure you played Ghost n goblins ?
RATING: 8/10 !!!
The vibrato and other effects used in the music are so cool...
My brother made several versions of this game, which made it more fun to play.
This deserves to be No. 1
Fantastic Game!
( I love 2D platform )
ciao!
i hope one day some one will remake all the good C=64 games on a PC, but not in 3D!!!
-2D RULES!! =)
and a nice bug in the last screen. The dragon can not hit you when you stay right in the screen.
I love to play it.
This game kept me sane during my 15 months of service in the german airforce.
Very addictable, a must download.
Decent conversion and a playable game.
And the Music is from Mark Cooksey, not Hubbard !
Great stuff.
