I'm not great at football games but this one looks and plays pretty bad, with clunky sprites, shoddy graphics and generally boring and uninspired gameplay.

Until mid 1988 Gremlin was one of the most reliable producers of high quality arcade games for the Commie. Then they started licencing games and it all went down (before Gremlin re-invented itself as a mass producer of 16bit racing games). This game is a good example how money for the licence should have been used for a couple of monthly salaries to improve the game as such.

In principle this one could have been decent. But the problem lies in the details: Scrolling is jerky, the screen too small, a stupid AI making the one player mode obsolete, music uninspired, and so on. Although it's a nice feature to have foul play included, there are only free kicks, i. E. When being fouled within the penalty area you only get a free kick!

Loving attention to detail is exactly what makes Microprose Soccer great, and what is totally absent here; 4/10.
