Graphics: 8 ‧
Music: 9 ‧
Playability: 7 ‧
Overall: 8
The game plays very similar to the flying stages in Turrican II. It's fast, pretty and feels overall more like a console shooter than the typical 8bit home computer shmup. Decide for yourself if that's a good or a bad thing. But I think it's great Enforcer is not modeled after Armalyte like most later C64 shmups. The gameplay is well balanced, but until the final stage the game is a tiny bit too easy. The only real downside is that parts of the game feel a little like a rehash of Trenz' earlier work.
It's a technical masterpiece and a very good shooter.
While it seems to be NTSC-compatible (nice work!), it moves too quickly on such systems, making it unplayably difficult. My only other issue is the background graphics tend to be a bit too "busy", which can distract from the gameplay and make it hard to distinguish foes and bullets from background. Many later games were marred by attempts to overdo the graphics, which sacrificed a clean look and a more playable game.
9/10
It's bloody great, really!
I voted 10. (also check out Crush, aka 'Katakis 2')
So, yeah, Trenz displays his usual technical wizardry here, accompanied by some appropriately dark music by Markus Siebold, but fails to deliver on pretty much anything else. After going out with a bang with Turrican II, this lackluster comeback is just disappointing.
It's rather sad, really.
Also, almost all of the graphics are recycled from Manfred Trenz's other games. They look nice, but Trenz really should have made new graphics.
Unfortunately the game-play is very hectically and after you got all the weapons it's much too easy.
So 7/10 only.
Simply the best H-shoot 'm up on the good old CMB. Period.
10/10 !
Even better than Katakis!
It is fair: you can play it without any cheats and trainers because you do not die by only one hit (you have some kind of internal shields).
I completed it many times...
Playability - 4/10
Programming excellence, poor game design. Short levels with insane number of enemies to deal with, impossible to play. Not a good swansong for Mr. Trenz on the C64..
This should be the sequel to
Katakis. Not the same class but a nice game.
