Very nice backgrounds and sprites successfully mimic the arcade. Opening Jonathan Dunn tune is awesome and sets the mood.

Game is tough and almost too fast.

But maybe that's just me complaining cause I suck at this game. Gotta practice more.

Enjoyable beat-em-up with nice sprites and good backgrounds. Very quick movements however to me the game didn't hold long lasting appeal as it got a bit samey after a few levels. I never played the arcade, so can't really compare it to that.

From what I've read (back in the day in Zzap and on here, more recently) I'm glad I opted for this over DD at the time. I played that arcade and really enjoyed it so may have been very disappointed with that conversion.

This takes a bit of getting into. Lacks a bit of crunch in the fighting dynamics, so it feels a bit vague and woolly. It also lacks variety, but the action comes thick and fast and the levels aren't too long. Graphics are lovely. Well animated, colourful hi res sprites and some cool backdrops (the truck convoy on level 2 especially). Music is yr typical cliche oriental tune, but it suits the action, as it were...

7/10 Well executed arcade conversion that doesn't quite hi the target. Good try.

I was the typical ninja-obsessed kid in the 80s, so I freakin' loved this one! It holds a special place in my childhood memories. Hi-res sprites, very well drawn and animated, besides some flickering and a few bugs here and there; gameplay took some practice but it was smooth and fast, with responsive controls, music was repetitive but mesmerizing. Played it a thousand times and still love it, the ending was disappointing though. Overall, a minor classic that still holds up.

One of the best beat em up game for C64! For me, better than NES version! Music was superb!

It was ok. The high res sprites looked very very good on the C64. At the time it was suprising that the C64 could still show good graphics. When a lot of arcade conversions from that era were poor.

Back when I recieved this game I still had the bitter disapointment that is double dragon on my mind, but I was surprised when I got to playing this!
this is a great beater! Nice amount of moves, and good level of difficulty.

I really enjoyed this game! The cover had such great colors :) Sweet memories <3 And Dunn Jonathan is really good with music and samples. , especially the drum samples.

Loved this game sooo much! The title music is sooo cool and the rest of the game aswell. My mom hide it, cus it was too violent she said. But we know where it was! :P I completed this game two times with just doing the jump-kick. Just jumping around and kick if there was an enemy! Got kinda boring to do one move, but I loved the game! Lol

This game was one of many arcade games from the ninja-obsessed 1980s that borrowed heavily from the film American Ninja.

Loved this game and it is still the one and only game I ever finished in a games arcade :)

In the USA this game is called, "Bad Dudes". The arcade to C64 conversion is fairly decent.

My favourite bit is the awesome startup tune on the "Press Fire To Start" screen.

I really enjoyed the arcade version so when this turned out as a single player only I was a bit disappointed but it was still a good game despite it was a bit easy to complete. I think I completed it the night after I purchased it.

This wasn't a too bad conversion. I liked the boppy music and those filled in hi-res sprites were quite nifty. Playabilty was very linear though like the arcade and it fell under the shadow of Double Dragon. Not a total disaster. :|

I had the same feeling like the rest of these comments here. Played it in the Arcades over and over.
Just me and a friend beating the game.

This version isn't that bad... But the power of the Arcades crushed the C64 version

A simple beat-em-up, nothing more, nothing less.

Why did I love this so much? And why did it always crash after level 2? Damn it.

Converted far better than Double Dragon. Still not great. Graphics Ok. Playerbility was a little frustrating.

Levels 1 and 2 really look rather good (really like the original arcade game) the characters all have hires sprite overlays which look really nice. The parallex scrolling on level 2 is really cool. Sound is ok. Playability just isn't there at all, sorry :)

Looking back I really can't understand how I could have played this game so much. I even completed it several times and wrote a little FAQ about how to deal with the bosses. The arcade version is repetitive and ugly. Same can be said about this C64 conversion.
Cadaver 2003-09-24
This game tries to do some brave things (I particularly admire the level 2 with scrolling trucks+city background) but falls short in playability & variety of enemies. It's also buggy..
Oldskool 2003-09-10
One thing I didn't mention: although I'm not the biggest fan of this game, I very much admire the very savvy in-game SID that burbles away while you're playing. It only uses one channel for the entire (brief) tune - cleverly written!
Colin Baynham 2003-06-30
Big fan of the arcade version, not so good on C64
~Gooey|Ganja 2003-06-06
Better than Nintendo's.
ABS 2003-04-29
Graphics and sound are very good, but I can't say the same thing for playability (if I remember rightly, there was an unceasing respawn of some enemies... ) I HATE this game. 5/10
Rob Bailey 2003-04-02
I really looked forward to this game coming out after being seduced by the sheer action extravaganza that was the Arcade version. Sadly it didn't quite deliver, but I still played it a fair bit. I love the second level and the boss too.
I liked it more than the first Double Dragon which I remember waiting to arrive for months after I'd ordered it. John Dunn's music was sweetly oriental yet unobtrusive in the overall context of the game.
TWR 2003-02-12
Looks pretty nice and OK music too, but it didn't have that extra that makes you play for hours and hours...
nazz 2002-10-21
I was disappointed by the conversion to C64, but persisted and it wasn't so bad afterall.

Play the arcade again now, and you'll realise this is the truth!
danrees 2002-08-16
Never played the arcade version, but what seems to be a fun game is spoilt by a whole load of glitches (e. G. Level 4 is almost unplayable!).

It's also far to easy - just jump and do a high kick to take out any of the characters.
Mar 2002-06-21
I was a huge fan of the arcade game. And was bitterly disapointed by this conversion. I thought it was terrible. However maybe I was just blinded by the brilliance that was the arcade version.
Shane 2002-02-12
Decent conversion of above average beat em up.
Oldskool 2002-01-31
Okay beat-em-up that can be frustrating and glitchy at times...
