By 1988 this was looking very primitive. Get past the poor presentation and theres a big, tough RPG to work through. One I never completed so I may have to give it another whirl.

An excellent sequel to Shard of Spring, the events in this game takes place long after the events of Shard of Spring. This game shared a lot of the same traits with Shard such as the skill point system and overhead combat. The gameworld (Ymros) is huge with many places to explore, especially qoorik (A demon underworld under a mansion. ), and as mentioned by gagnedd, a very dark storyline indeed!

Too easy. I remember that I completed the game in the first day I got the game.

With it's imense world (by any tile game I know of standards), engagine storyline, dark and evil hellborn plot, character classes, skill learning system, magic system, combat arena system, different landscapes (with appropriate monster encounters), dungeon style, magic weapon, armor, and object crafting/customizing system ... Wow I could go on forever, this was definately in a class by itself as a C64 Fantasy RPG. There was no other game like it, as it was so much more player friendly than the Bardstale series, much more darker than Ultima 1-4, less frustrating than Ultima 5, and more believable than
Wasteland.

The skill system may not be as elaborate as in Wasteland, as each skill has only 1 level, but being able to craft your own objects and weapons to use in the final dungeons of the game more than makes up for it. You will need them, as the fights in the final dungeons are extremely hard. Also, having a set of gods to worship and pray to in dire times adds another unique element to the game. Finally, there are not many plots that compare to the dark and evil plot (eternal winter, sees turning to blood, gods being murdered) that the Demon god Malifon brings to the land. At first, little is known of this plot, so that adds a mystery element to the story line as well, as pieces of the plot are revealed only as the characters progress in the game.

Just an awesome RPG, with no other game quite like it.

I lost a lot of sleep playing this game.

This version was better than the PC version...

SSI knew what was up with these RPGs man.

and yes, Farking kung fu was sweet.

I remember getting this game as a budget title... I never really got into the early SSI RPGs. The combat was detailed and fascinating, but there was a lot of it and it was s-l-o-o-o-o-w...

Now that I think about it, it was a dark elf thief (see previous comment), though with the kung fu he was more like an assassin. Great stuff.

Another great C64 RPG. This one had quite an original skill system. I remember my half-elf thief gaining in ability to the point where (and this was early on in the game) he was slaying giants and ogre with KUNG FU as the fighters and paladin hacked and hacked with their puny swords. That alone made this game such fun to play. Every battle, I'd rush in with my half-elven thief and WHAP WHAP! F*cking kung fu...
