It was fairly simple as a game. Basically not much more than the game you played at school. But then, the presentation was pretty good, the computer player okay and a few nice touches added (assumedly from the electronic game which I never played).
With a friend this could be really good fun!

This is a fantastic version of "Battle Ships" that has been expertly presented. This version differs from the official board game in a few notable ways, but those changes have made it much more fun for two players on computer. As it stands, it's one of the most playable and accessible two-player games on the 64, and a classic worthy of having in your library.

I kind of enjoyed this faithful attempt at Battleships. Never the most exciting game but at least it has been coded with care and attention.

I love Battleships, its a timeless classic and this implementation does exactly what it should by not altering the core gameplay at all.
Graphics are very nice and tidy and the music/sfx are impressive.
A game I played a lot with friends back in the day (the AI is good but fair as well) and still fire up for a blast even now.
8 out of 10.

It's Battleships on your computer simple as that.

I was thinking that there was an Elite version of this, then I realized Hit Pak is technically Elite . Well anyway, 8/10

Best battle ships game ever on any system. Beats the crap out of Hoyles version. Mark Cooksey's soundtrack is really good. I used to load this from tape to listen to the music when I was young.

Battleships does not get much funnier than this, and it's one of the best computer game conversions I've seen.

This was a really fun electronic game that me and my bro played endlessley and when it moved to home computers it removed all the fiddling about with pegs and ships and it was still an enjoyable game. For me, a classic game in any format. :)

Great little game... Slammed in respects to magazine reviews from what I can recall... (think it was Zzap) but it had great music, very colorful... And played a challenging game in one player mode too .. All you could ask for from battleships... Much better than the pen and paper version... As long as u could trust your opponent as u set up your fleet... Highly recommended! 84/100 For Mine.

Well it's a game where you sink ships, what else can be said... Very addicting when played with a friend, smart AI and nice graphics. Great menu music!

I had this game on a Hit Pak, disk with some other games, Christmas 1992. Which came with Ghosts and Goblins, Paperboy and Bombjack 2. :) Nice selection, and this game was highly addictive to play. Clever AI and good music. An unmissable game.

A good game that you can enjoy for a very long time... But it does tend to get a bit booring with all the shooting.

WTF is this title doing in the worst 50??

Some of the greatest music ever composed for the C64, and an excellent gameplay.

Nononono... This game wasn't that bad. Enjoyable fun for those who weren't really into computers, but knew the table-top game. It actually converted one of my relatives to the joys of computer games!
Zeela 2003-09-18
My four year old son's favourite game of all time!

He can spend hours in front of it, playing against me or the commodore.

It's a great game!
Megagun 2003-08-22
A game I really played until it wasn't playable anymore (stupid broken disk! :P) but then I got it again for my birthday (my uncle had it on a disk) and I was happy again! Really good intro music!!
zzapster 2003-08-15
Isn't this game in the wrong category? This was pretty playable and addictive, graphics were OK, done the job well enough, great sound effects and atmospheric ditty, true to the original. Good range of gameplay types and options, liked the fact that the number of shots decreased everytime a ship was sunk. Download it.

I think this kinda games were quite fun to play in the classroom, but very boring on a computer...
jeroen 2003-08-01
Tim's right.
This is a great game.
It received an award: Smash Hit!!!

Perhaps because Battleships is one of the most limited games around...

Why the hell is this in the worst 50???!?!?!?!?!?!
my mum tina 2003-04-24
Loves blowing up the ships when she can find them
Lemonope 2003-01-19
A Battleships board game which probably couldn't of been better! The music keeps you in the mood and its great fun with 2 players as one player leaves the room while the other sets up its ships. One of the Games I could never forget!
Borut 2002-10-24
A good game to play against the computer, but not against a person.
Evilkingus 2002-08-03
If you could look away when it wasn't your turn it was good - even better if your opponent looked away when it was your turn.
GrayFox_ 2002-06-12
A superb game!
Have waisted more hours on it than I can imagine... Great party game with friends =)
CC Nixon 2002-05-15
The best ever conversion of a board type game to the 64 ... Almost as great as the real thing and you can't run out of ink :)
Paradroid 2002-01-11
Smash Hit!

One of my first games, the C64 version of the famous "table game"... Good, good, good, the sound is great, a work of Mark Cooksay!
