This is a good example of how packaging and presentation are not enough to make you forget you've been had.
The theme is brilliant but the execution is pathetic.
Nothing but tedious frustration and ugly, slow action await you in this sorry attempt at a Car Wars adaptation. What a waste. The Amiga version is just as lame. Deserves to have a proper PC version made... In 2D pixel art of course!

It came with the Origin Systems trademark wonderful additions such as a lovely set of instructions and even a map so you can't fault them there. Plays similar to the old Car Wars pen and paper game. Its a great concept and to an extent they pulled off the implementation really well despite the really crummy graphics (even for 1985). Plenty of depth and lastability building up your battle wagon. A tough but very engrossing early action RPG which desperately crys out for a modern remake.
8 out of 10.

What a piece of garbage.
Takes years to get enough money to build a decent car.

Great game, I really spent a lot of time playing this and building up different cars and trucks. Spent a lot of time doing courier missions and of course fighting in the arena for some extra cash. I had a friend who played a pen and paper version of this game called Car Wars, and he used to love coming over and play this game on the computer. For me this game had a lot of playability. I think in later years I also bought for the Amiga.

YEAH! I finally was able to buy a complete copy off Ebay for my C64! I played this game on and off back in the 80's, but always had a hard time trying to control my car and line up shots. It's definately a tough game, but a great concept and well executed. Trying to make long-distance delivery runs was always nail-biting as you never knew what kind of bandits you might come across as you made your journey. Origin really knew how to make games!!

Certainly way different than most fantasy-based RPGs and well worth trying, if only to design your own killer car. Fighting the duels was hard to learn though, since car handling wasn't always instinctive.

I was totally obsessed with this game back in the day, but the version I had kept crashing (maybe due to the fact that it was cracked lol)

I love the idea of building your own car and doing tasks for money. I think Ill play this game right now.

I thought this game was great- starting with little to nothing, fighting arena battles to improve your battle wagon, and running the cross country gauntlet for extra cash. Once I was established I used to cruise the highways looking for other vehicles to bash and scavenge and bikers to fry.
Just a great game and a lot of fun!

One of the greatest RPG game I have ever played! However sometimes it needed to do some sector editing to play fluently. This also is somewhat hard game comparing to other RPG's. AT gun on the front, Flamethrower and Anti Tank Gun on the back was my favorite. Still playable these days!

If you want to play this game as a boardgame, check out Autoduel at Steve Jackson Games sjgames.com/

This one was fantastic, but the enemies got exponentially tougher depending on how tough your car was! It was a hard game.

Maybe my favourite C64 game. Lol, my name was Hardcore. It was buggy, but I did finally finish it. I thought the whole idea was cool, take a car, arm it, kill stuff. Loved the arena duels.
A must have.

Man i played endless hours in the casino... Used a character name of jacksplat. Prestige was important in order to get better courier tasks. When the hell will they remake this game for modern day gamers??

Loved this game... I also spent a LOT of time.. Mouting flamethrowers on the back and machine guns on the sides was great for the arenas!

Used to play this on the C128. Sweet premise getting paid for doing deliveries across the country, etc. Many late nights as a early teenager spent playing!

This was an excellent game back in the day. You can design your own vehicles of destruction. And take your time getting to the end. Some of the downloads don't work though.

It took time to learn how to steer the car. Steering was rather different than in other cargames. Arena is the place where you can learn how car handles. Easiest way to get money was in casinos, because plays were very simple. Unfortunately I played Auto Duel with C-128 and there was a bug which crashed my computer just before final duel.
