I have done a few mockups of games (as I mentioned in the DK.Jr-thread) from other platforms (well, just from NES so far) just for fun, and thought I'd share them, and maybe someone else has done some (or is inspired to do something similiar) and post here?

The first I did was a mockup of Super Mario Bros, it's in multicolor but with quite a lot of hires tiles:

I also did a quick mock-up of Balloon Fight:

I did two versions of Ice Climber (awesome game!!), I thought it might look better in Multicolor so I did that first, but wasn't happy at all with how it looked so decided to do one in Hires which I think looks more like the original game and a lot better:

And last but not least, the picture I did of how Donkey Kong Jr. could look, which I think turned out quite nice. The sprites are very quickly done and could definitely need some touching up.

I was actually pondering the idea of porting a game from the NES to the C64, keeping all the game-logic but rewriting all graphics-stuff since the graphics on both systems are very different.

Don't really think I ever will though Razz

Impressive! On the multicolor image, you know, that in multicolor mode you can mix in hires as well? The free color is restricted to the lower 8, for both hires and multicolor.

Yes, it's used a lot in the Mario-picture, and on the numbers in the Ice Climber MC-picture. Too bad that all browns are unavailable when using this mode :/

I was thinking about using Enhanced Character Mode instead for some of the pictures, but since CharPad doesn't support it (and I really like CharPad, hasn't found any other tool that comes close for making graphics) I have to settle with normal hi-res or multicolor for now.

Yeah, Like Endurion Said, Some Nice looking Graphics there, All you need now is A Coder to knock up a Funky Game with them... Cool BTW The DK JR Graphics look Very Good... Maybe a Hi-Res Overlay on the Main Sprite would work ? Smile Personally I prefer the Multi Colour Version Of Ice Climber BTW, maybe you could do a Vote on which Version of the Graphics people like best. Which makes me wonder what happened to that Game Don Doku Don, there was a nice Preview then all has been quiet... Confused

There is a hires-overlay on all the sprites on the DK JR picture, it's dark brown on the main sprite instead of black, maybe that's why it's not as noticable? Very Happy

I don't think anyone will make a port of any of these games, I have been thinking about doing something like that myself though but I'm sceptical I ever will. I believe it's more fun to make a game myself than a port, but if anyone would want to use any of the graphics for a port or something else completely, feel free to use them!

Not sure if you know, fx has some coding skills himself. He's already done a small game https://www.lemon64.com/forum/...b66723d663

I'm really looking forward to more of his work, as it's inspirational to other new to writing software on the C64.

I don't think you could ever do a game like super mario using a mix of hi-res and mutlicolor. I believe that limits you to 64 characters and it would be tough to do that game with so few. I know Gianna Sisters went with multi-color, but if I ever wrote a game like that I think I'd be more tempted to go with straight hi-res.

Thanks! But as mentioned by Turbo240Z already, I'm actually coding aswell so I think it's more probable that I will do something myself using the graphics. Anyway, as I think I mentioned earlier, if any coder is interested in any of these graphics, feel free to use them.

In multicolor, you can mix hires as well and still have 256 characters. I think you're mixing it up with Enhanced Character Mode which let's you choose between 4 background-colors, but reduces the character set to 64 characters.
