MPS-802 graphics upgrade eprom.

Post by c64web »

I understand there was a upgrade available for the MPS-802 to give it graphics capabilities
can anyone one confirm this. a dump of the rom would be great as I've been asked this question on many occasions now.

enjoy.

I have one here which has the updated rom in it. If you are still interested I can dump the eprom to a file and send it to you.
It also is converted to use 9 needles instead of the default 8 while printing.

Using an eprom programmer I dumped the eprom with the Grafik ROM II for the MPS 802 & 1526.

??How do I attach this file here? Can someone let me know how to do this??

Have a manual on paper also (in german), but will write the important details here.

Open the printer, 4 screws on the bottom, remove print ribbon and knob. Lift upper part of case. Remove cover of the pcb (2 screws). Replace the ROM which is next to the CPU (CPU=6504).
Eprom is a 2764 type, just remove the old one (position U8 on the board) and replace it with the 2764.
If the old one is a ROM type, change the jumpers on the board. Jumpers have to be made on J3 and J4, J1 and J2 have to be open!

That is one thing I haven't seen many rips for ... all the various ROM updates for printers that gave "true descenders" for the fonts.

Hi guys, Went looking for the MPS-802 Graphics ROM again but the links didn't work.

So anyone else looking I managed to find the info using the PokeFinder.
Who ever set up this wonderful CBM search engine deserves a huge pat on the back! Thanks!

Links to the MPS-802 Graphics 2 ROM's and info.

http://ftp.pokefinder.org/index.php?s=MPS802&m=0&h=100

And also some useful service manuals etc.

Keep those wonderful old MPS-802's going! :)

Oh and a Big thank you to the "Marcelv" for all his hard work in dumping the ROM and scanning the manual. :) And to Shane too for the original post prompting this.

The file in question was moved to the hardware section of cbm8bit.com after i emailed it to VK.

Re: MPS-802 graphics upgrade eprom.

Post by Wizk83 »

I'd like to briefly revive this very old thread. I want to install the rather elusive eprom graphics update for my MPS 802 printer. It has been referred to as the Grafik ROM II for the MPS 802 & 1526. See thread and photo above.

Does anyone have the ROM file? In 2008 it was uploaded to cbm8bit.com, which appears to no longer exist. I have conducted a rather extensive search for the rom online, and in the usual file repositories, but I can't find it.

It seems that it still exists b/c I found a somewhat recent youtube video demonstrating an upgraded MPS 802 printing a graphic file (Frankenstein). The author of the video was asked to provide the rom but the author didn't respond.

If anyone has it I would greatly appreciate having it too.

Many thanks - Matt
