Intergalactic Cage Match is a pointless and miserable fighting game that should be avoided.
But what makes ICM so bad? Well, let's see...the graphics are bad. The sprites are bad. The animations are bad. The sound is bad. The music is really bad. The gameplay is extremely bad.
Let's start with the graphics: A simple pseudo 3D rendition of a cage, with a bunch of alien spectators. All bad. Even the Mastertronic logo on the floor is bad.
As I said, the sprites are bad. The lack colour and details. The animations look very unrealistic, so much that sometimes it leaves you wondering what the heck was the move that you just executed.
As for the gameplay...There are a few characters represented, but there is little difference in the moves they perform. There are no special moves per character either. You can choose to play a single-player or a 2-player match; although I can't imagine why would even want to play ICM in the first place. The computer AI in the single-player match is non-existent. The controls are non-responsive, the score system is buggy.
But that's not all. The in-game music only serves the purpose of getting on your nerves so badly that you'd want to reset your C64, which may not be such a bad thing.
The only redeeming point about this game is the near-decent intro screen, which unfortunately gets overshadowed by the horrible intro music.
To summarize, Intergalactic Cage Match is a horrible mistake of a game that should never have been made.
GRAPHICS - 4/10
Except for the nice intro screen, the graphics are devoid of any creativity.
SOUND - 1/10
Not really music or sound effects, more like dissonant notes coming out of an out of tune band.
PLAYABILITY - 1/10
Even if you can ignore how bad Intergalactic Cage Match looks and sounds, you won't be able to ignore how badly it plays.
OVERALL - 1/10
Intergalactic Cage Match delivers all that it promises: "intergalactic" characters, a "cage", and a lot of "match"es. But somewhere along the line the developers forgot to add more important elements such as "fun" or even "game" to the mix. It's difficult to imagine that Intergalactic Cage Match could be much worse than it is.
