Beyond Castle Wolfenstein is a sequel to Castle Wolfenstein. Whereas in the first game you are a prisoner seeking escape, in this game you infiltrate Hitlers bunker disguised as a German officer. Your mission is to find a briefcase containing a bomb hidden somewhere on the first level and take it right into Hitler's conference room two levels down in an attempt to destroy him. One unique aspect of this game is the digitized voices of the guards who speak somewhat halting German.
You begin in the courtyard with a revolver, 10 bullets, and a few passes which you will be asked to produce when confronted by the guards in each room. These passes are represented by the numbers 1 through 5. If the pass you give is no good your goose isn't necessarily cooked, the guards are easily bribed. Just don't try out one of your remaining passes on the same guard. Also, keep an eye on how much money you have left for bribing purposes.
You will need to search each room in order to find a few items necessary to your survival besides the bomb You do this by examining the closets in each room. If a closet is locked then something very important must be inside. You open a locked closet by finding it's three digit code (via the number keys) much as a safe cracker would open a safe. These are the other items that you may need to win the game:
Keys
Tool chest
Dagger
First aid kit
The dagger is naturally for silent killing of the guards, and the first aid kit is used in case you get wounded. When you are wounded you are noticeably slowed down and that in itself can be risky if a guard on the other side of the room says, "Kommen Sie!" and you don't get to him soon enough. I have found that I don't really need the keys or the tool chest in order to win the game.
Eventually you will find it necessary to eliminate some of the guards. Be careful because in most rooms there is an alarm box (sometimes more at the higher levels), and if you are not careful one of the guards will run up to the alarm and turn it on. In that case you have virtually no chance to survive unless you can find a way to disarm the thing. After dispensing with a guard you can search him and even drag his body where it cannot be easily seen. Guards carry extra bullets, money, and passes.
Once you find the bomb somewhere on the first level you must make your way to the room with the elevator to take you down to the next level and so on down to level three where Hitler is. Be aware that each level requires a different pass so you have to remember which pass is for which level. Another thing you need to watch is the timer on the bomb. If it counts down to zero you will be blown up and not Hitler. Fortunately it can be easily reset.
If you are lucky or have played extra smart you will find the conference room with Hitler and is 'Sieg Heil' cronies. You can't actually get at Hitler, just reset the bomb, leave it at the door, and try to get back to the courtyard on the first level before the bomb goes off. If you succeed you will be promoted to a higher rank and a more difficult game the next time you play.
