I will attempt to write this review without referencing that song by Frank Sinatra, as I’m not sure it’s ever been done. Here goes - *Ahem* Grand Theft Auto has nothing on New York City for the 64. Sure, GTA has brilliant new graphics, live music, lots of weapons and... okay, so maybe New York City isn’t in that good. In fact, New York City really stinks.
I’m just trying to justify spending so much time on this game as a kid. I didn’t need an explanation of why my visit to the U.N. Building had me climbing ladders, trying to get a pretzel while being chased by guys in green shirts. And maybe I thought it was realistic that people that aren’t even trying to steal my money would be lined up to shoot you when you’re trying to take the subway (and then of course, attempting to board the subway would result in being run over.) and I probably knew deep down that more than 2 tourist attractions are allowed to be open in NYC at any given time. (Grant’s Tomb is CLOSED!! Go to the Zoo!) I think it may have been the carnage on the streets that drew me in… There’s a car accident in New York City every 1.5 seconds – at least on the 64 version anyway. Ultimately, I don’t know why I played this… or why I still do. It’s horrible. Maybe I’m a masochist. If you’re not, I don’t suggest playing this – go outside and play.

| GRAPHICS - 4/10 |
Well, I suppose it looks like a city... I think the city in Ghostbusters was just much more believable. Activision just wanted it more, I guess.
| | SOUND - 3/10 |
There was music? I didn’t really notice. There are a lot of cars honking and crashing into each other, though... over and over and over...
| | PLAYABILITY - 5/10 |
Inexplicably addictive for such a lousy game. I wish I had that time back...I could’ve learned a second language, written a book, taught my dog to talk... but no, I was chasing a pretzel up a ladder.

(Imitate Sinatra…NOW) Start Spreadin’ the news... this game is a waste.(sorry) I would avoid taking this trip to New York City. Trust me. You can lead a full happy and productive life without playing this game. I wish someone had told me that as a kid. That’s One to Grow On!
