Parallax original painting "The scans are of the original Wakelin artwork he drew for the games, bought from him about a year ago or so. Both of them were £100 each, and well worth it as the quality (which sadly you can only see if you have the real thing in front of you) is superb. Even my brother (an arty type guy) was impressed with the techniques. Part line drawing, mainly air brushing, similar to Oli Frey and Zzap! cover type production.
The story behind getting them? Not that long and boring fortunately. I think Bob was looking to clear some room in his studio and knew people would give them good homes. As you may know he started working for Imagine back in 1983, when both he and the company were based in Liverpool (in fact he still is). When Imagine went bust, Ocean (in Manchester) bought the label and he started working for them. A mate of mine in Liverpool who does one of the retro mags around got in contact with Bob to do an interview as part of an article about him and his work. So he (my mate) became one of the outlets for selling this artwork off. Actually there are quite a few on eBay at this very moment. Look for the seller "wako8" or something like that. So being a mate I got to see the list before almost everyone else did. I was also after the Heads over Heels artwork but apparently Jon Ritman (the game's programmer) got in first for that. Ditto Match Day. Still I got two of the best looking pieces of art around for two classic games by Sensible Software. Just need to get some frames for them I think!"
