The diary in Zzap! was entertaining. Ultimately I couldn
t get into the game. Nice sprites, but the backdrops seem lazy, almost like blocks from a map editor. Maybe I should have given it more time. Maybe I felt let down by Thamalus after liking their shoot
em ups. Come to think of it, I didn
t enjoy Hunters Moon either, i coudln't get into that either.

A classic. Underrated and below most people´s radar. Sadly.
The exploration of this ghostcity is quite intriguing. Don´t expect a shoot´em up though. You´ll be mightily dissapointed.
Martin Walker certainly came through with this one and Hunter´s Moon.

This Game got one of my favourite C64 soundtracks
The game is a bit hard, but got great atmosphere e super sound effect.

So much publicity at the time, even a special report each month in Zzap as far as I can remember. But finaly, the game was just a kind of Chips Challenge or else... Nothing particulary original.
I still wonder...

People expected a pure action game, and it isn't. That's why it has been one of the most underrated game ever.

But as you master the control system, you will find a really great game, not the usual 'triggerfest'.. And that's WHY this game is more appreciated nowadays than in '80/'90.

Give it a try.. It will hook you with a STRONG gameplay and a GREAT level of immersion.

Technically is a joy!

I give it 10, 17 years later.

Really nice game that was sadly overlooked by a lot of people.

This is one of the games I missed out on. Ive got it now on an emulator. I don't know what the hell Im doing on it mind - anyone got advice / instructions ? Looks a pretty cool game. Id like to give it a blast.

For me this game is a childhood trauma,
I remember when I bought it, and I reached at the pick to city 7 out 8!!!
and then my Commodore computer crushed,
and since it was 1990 already, it wasn't possible to fix anymore ( the age of PC started).

for the last 14 years , I remembered the legend name citadel, until few days ago, when I found how to download it.
well, the legend was true.
the game is much much better than what I remember, and today we much stronger games...
but still , its amazing game
12/10
The Down and Out - 2004-05-17
Quite a creepy game.
Very atmospheric sound and claustrophobic gameplay make this a very entertaining piece of software which I had hours of fun with.
The parallels to the likes of Paradroid are fairly obvious but still a cracker in it's own right.

This was a brilliant, challenging game that I don't think many people got to play. It's definitely worth seeking out though.

One of the most polished C64 games ever. It took Martin Walker ages to create this, but you can see/hear where all the time went. Find and download this NOW - you won't be disappointed!

This game had a superb reputation back in the days and with all right. It is a brilliant one with superb graphics and top class music. Game-play is quite hard to understand in the beginning but once you get into the game, you're stuck !!! It's just fantastic !!!

I completely agree with the reviewer. Citadel is a real work of art. Thank you a lot, Martin, for this one and for the other masterpiece (Hunter's Moon, of course). 10/10!

Drawing from Paradroid in the look and feel dept. But with the strategy not hidden in a sub game. Superb atmosphere (Martin walker I think had did some of the best SFX on the c64) and extremely engaging gameplay. Easily one of my top 3 C64 games.
Boçù - 2002-08-23
An excellent game, even if not the fastest in the world. The sound FX (especially the background hum) in particular are superb.
One minor niggle: if you play with chicken tactics you can easily complete it.
Troy - 2002-06-14
Probably the last game I ever bought for the 64. I was really impressed by it, almost as amusing as Martin Walker's zzap diary of his creation of it. Didn't like any of his music though. Wonder what he's doing these days.

Classic game that many people don't seem too remember. Great strategic shoot 'em up with excellent Robin Levy (Armalyte, Ninja 3, Turbocharge) graphics and the usual good quality Martin Walker music.
