Neo - 2013-04-09 How many hours of game play with my father! From evening to night. What a wonderful reminder, thanks Boulder Dash, thank you very much! Some of the best moments spent with him.

Micke E - 2012-06-20 Yes, this might be the best Commodore 64 game ever made. I like games where you have to think strategically, and the graphics and sounds are really great here too. The follow-ups weren't quite as good though, apart from the Construction Kit of course. I think many of us made better levels with that program than the pro-official levels of Boulder Dash 4. Actually the unofficial follow-ups (BD 5 and further on) had better levels than BD 4. At least I think that only the first 4 BD:s are official games. Correct me if I'm wrong.
TeamRocketReviews - 2011-09-06 This game is perfect in every conceivable way. I have no wisecracking comments to make. It's just perfect.
Unkle K - 2011-06-18 27 years old and just as fun today as it was back then! My 5 year old daughter loves playing c64 Boulderdash! A classic, almost perfect game.
EvilCensor - 2010-10-23 One of *THE* best games ever, still highly playable today. Everything about this game is just right - and that includes the graphics.. They are functional and more than adequate. Anyone who moans about the graphics should be kicked in the nuts - and that include Zzap64! reviewers.
Vader - 2010-05-27 Still great to play today. Never gets boring. Votes: Graphics: 56 Sound: 67 Gameplay: 79
Apollyon - 2010-04-13 Really bad controls spoil what could have been an excellent game.
c64web - 2010-04-07 My favorite c64 game and one of the first game's i paid for! Due to it's incredibly addictive and challenging levels and then to release a construction kit, unlimited puzzles many thousands available online even now in 2010 9/10 this game has it all. : )
Highretrogameblood89 - 2010-04-05 Ah, Boulder Dash...such an amazing game!!! Hell, it's so amazing, that this kind of game has its own genre (here on Lemon64 where the genre is also called Boulder Dash.) Well, no surprise that there are so many clones and rip-offs of this game.
davidiocarp - 2010-01-14 Very good game for 1984 !! a classic
Bountyhunter26 - 2008-10-27 One most excellent idea that has cloned unlimited times, really like this game and some of the clones too 9/10
pipi666 - 2008-07-05 Yep , truly a great game
Gurt - 2008-03-30 The original and still the best. An all-time classic and undoubtedly one of the top-10 games of all time on any format. And it loads in 30 counts on a tape deck! What more could you want? The non-Stateside boxart deserves a mention too as it's very strange and it really attracts you to the game: It has a certain depth that you can't see but you want to explore.
Parpala - 2007-12-04 Oh yeah! Awesome game! I've spent many many hours with this...
mingle - 2007-11-10 What can I say? Everything about this game oozes quality. The playability is unmatched and you always want to go back for 'one more try'. I hate to say it again, but: A true classic!
=^D Guy - 2007-10-21 Second with dksmfb86. Also that's too bad that First Star still has the copyright for this game. So I guess I have to delete the gamefile on my computer, and get an actual Commy Sixfour as well as find a NSTC copy of the original since I live in the Stateside. Also I love the 3rd boxart. The Thing On A Spring visits "Carlsbad Caverns".
dksmfb86 - 2007-02-26 A classic...
jeffbaynard - 2007-01-08 A "very good" 8/10, A true classic YES.
laamanaama - 2006-12-12 Boulder Dash is certainly one of the living legends in the world of computer gaming. An exceptional, inspiring, challenging, entertaining. It seems like all positive adjectives fit well into descriptions of Boulder Dash. Everything in this brilliant game is carefully crafted to the perfection. Catchy opening tune, nice graphics, fantastic sound effects, exceptional game play. These are the sought-after game qualities that a classic like Boulder Dash possesses. Everything about this game is simply incredible. They had a simple but addictive idea. Basically it all boils down to Rockford who collects diamonds and moves boulders around. Add some more features with good taste and you got Boulder Dash. Perfect ten and loads of respect!
guardiane - 2006-10-02 Another good game, the sequels were better. Wasn't there like 18 sequels or something deluted like that? Like most games, there was a technique or trick to playing this one which I cannot remember. I tried this game again recently and it's funny to think that I was 10 times better at this game when I was a kid than I am now.
jd - 2006-05-10 Fantastically done puzzler and the bubbly theme music nearly brings a nostalgic tear to my eye. WARNING: First Star still has this game under copyright and is actively enforcing it. For a similar experience, try Crystal Mines II for the Atari Lynx.
Sanitarium 83 - 2006-04-20 Awesome, challenging, hectic, mindblowing. Yup, you've guessed it, it's Boulder Dash. Many devious levels offers challenge for a while, for a long while I mean. Original is better then the sequel in this case.
jmc - 2006-03-11 Great game very stressing with the clock running,i've never finished it, too hard but i've a friend who did "marcus". after hours of playing , when watching TV he saw rocks falling and even mades nightmare of it now I know why is a little CRAZY did some one else finished it ?
jmc - 2006-03-11 Great game, fast with the clock stressing you, i've never finished it. Too hard but i've a friend who did "marcus". without cheat codes, he told me that after hours of playing he saw rocks falling when watching TV and also mades some nightmare of rocks. CRAZY did some one else finished it?
Arielillo2 - 2006-02-14 When the idea is brilliant, you don't need good graphics/sounds for having hours and hours of fan. Great game.
zuzmara - 2005-12-29 A great game, a classic indeed. 7/10
stooart - 2005-12-20 This changed my life after one go! totally brilliant idea and devious levels kept me glued to the commy for hours! a classic!
Supremacy - 2005-11-12 Absolutely a great game! C64 classic "But I would've liked it better if there was no timer." - Then it wouldn have been that fun either, but a cheat of this could have been done (it it isn't already made
malky - 2005-10-07 Probably my favourite series of games on the C64. I know its popular anyway nut I'm still giving it 10/10
NoseJob - 2005-09-28 They haven't made a better version yet. (certainly not the crappy cd man version).
mv64 - 2005-09-12 Great game. But I would've liked it better if there was no timer.
Jolly_Roger - 2005-08-18 Brilliant,clever and fun.
Grim - 2005-06-26 This is one of the best games ever made. All the shit Doom, Sacred or HL can FUCK OFF! Boulder Dash ownz them all! -->GET IT PLAY IT <--
Lane - 2005-06-03 Great stuff! Addictive as hell! Devious as hell! 9/10
Karpow - 2005-05-14 The game might be a little dated now but still a brilliant game. One of the first games which I ever played on C64 so it also has a fairly great nostalgia status for me.
Fizza - 2005-05-03 Ok, got the GBA cart and have finally seen the light now I've at long last figured out how to play it properly!
robgw - 2005-05-02 This is one of my favourite games of all time.
Grim*Fandango - 2005-01-14 I really don´t like games like Boulder Dash, but it's quit funny (but you should better ignore graphics and sound ;-) )
The Dark Prince - 2004-11-07 An amazing first with some very very clever puzzles. The later boulderdash series could only copy this game (palely, to say the least). There have been some minor improvements in other games, but this is just about as good as it gets.
LeeT - 2004-10-18 Like Kellogs Cornflakes - The Original AND The Best!
MorGor - 2004-10-01 Come on! Bolder Dash surely is an OK game, but don't you think you are exaggerating a little bit? The game has bad sounds and the graphics are not spectacular either. Gameplay is OK... But they are many better "thinking" games in the world.
Troy - 2004-09-14 First game I ever bought. Best game I ever played. This is the Mona Lisa of the games world. Even now I can remember all the cave names and what they looked like cos I played it that much. Playing from the beginning I could never get past Cave O (Enchanted Funnel) Level 4 - that's the hardest cave in the game. Go on! Try it now and see how hard it is!
Richard of TND - 2004-09-10 Reminds me of the Vic20 game called Rockman. Good fun and really puzzling to play.
Fruitbat - 2004-07-21 First saw this game on my brother's Atari 800xl & fell in love with it.I used 2sneak on 2play it when he was out (and if he came home and found the joystick had moved by so much as a centimeter I got a slap! Thankfully we get on better these days!) Eventually I got hold of a copy for my C64,and though it wasn't quite as smooth and polished as the Atari version I loved it just as much. After all,it was the gameplay that was the wonderful thing about it,and thankfully the game played exactly the same as on the Atari.Highly addictive,I could play this for hours (and so could my brother, though he was more likely to throw his joystick after getting squished by a falling rock - boy he was NASTY back then!)The sounds were perfect - catchy title screen tune and wonderful in game sounds, the twinkling sound of falling gems, the explosions, and the gurgling amoeba! Possibly the best game of all time! 10 out of 10
Glenn - 2004-06-23 This game is one of the best game ever created for the C64 10 / 10
rw fisher - 2004-06-18 This is - without question - the single most addictive computer game i've ever played. If not on Play Station2, it should at least be available on the PC.
Jamie Phillips - 2004-05-30 Yeah, one of the best games ever written; just thinking about it evokes all my childhood memories of the time. But the best thing is the music - was there ever a funkier SID tune ever written? Loads of character. Amazing.
Erling - 2004-04-02 Phew.. Spend hours and hours with this game... I always think of this game when I hear Bowie.. Was into him back then.. And zzap 64 made Rockford their little mascot as I remember..
Arno Weber - 2004-01-01 This is simply the best computer game ever created! A few rules and a very simple setup give us a game with action, strategy and brainteasing caves. Also the simple, but recognizable graphics, sounds and music give us the very special “BD feeling”, which is hard to describe in words. There is a huge collection of BD games providing us hours, days and nights of fun and addictedness. But this is just the beginning; we also have the construction kit... I really don’t know any other game with all these nice features; Boulder Dash is unique! It deserves a rate 10/10!
coral - 2003-12-15 Boulderdash has always been my favourite game. going back 17-18 yrs ago me and my sons would sit and play for hours on end it is truly a fantastic game and so addictive. i always say one more game which turns into an all night event 7am in the morning when I finally turn my p c off. In my dreams I'm running around collecting diamonds and dodging falling rocks. Many thanks to peter Liepa chris gray for producing such a wonderful game I sincerely hope that this game will eventually be bought out on c.d.rom well I'm 60 now and I'm still at it.
Kimmen - 2003-10-29 Groundbreaking game that got copied 1000 times and countless clones.. But the original rox!!!
Stan - 2003-10-15 Boulderdash is quite simply the best computer game ever written. Populous on the Amiga/ST comes close, Operation Flashpoint on the PC also comes close but if I had to take one game on Desert Island Discs I'd take Boulderdash+construction kit.
Alex A - 2003-09-29 Can't believe I haven't commented on this game!! Peter Liepa and Chris Gray, superb effort, brilliant idea, executed to perfection!! This was one you brought out to show the calibre of game your C64 could produce. Still outstanding to this day re: gameplay. Music simple but effective - just like the game, just like the computer!!
tko - 2003-09-28 Damn straight people.. This title is just legend. One to make 64 owners truly proud. Running away from a butterfly or firefly, or missing that last rock to trap a huge amoeba (and getting rocks instead of diamonds) .. That's what this game was all about. And Alex, get over it: The 'physics' were perfectly logical. Rocks balance on titanium, but not rock/stone. Very simple. Butterflys turn one way, Firefly's the other. Another fine example of simple rules making a completely addictive puzzle game. 10/10.
InnerSymbiance - 2003-09-28 This is what super Bomberman was to the Snes, Boulderdash made for me, many late nights, many late days, much cursing and always...ALWAYS coming back to suffer more!. The construction kit just added to the pain and pleasure.. Boulderdash, rules then, rules now, and ahmad, playing Madonna's 80's stuff and playing this and other C64 games is nothing to be ashamed of., its a given, its part of the C64 History, revel, play, emulate and play some more..
thepts - 2003-09-23 Fun, but highly overrated IMO. A buddy of mine loved this game to death. He also loved Summer Games I & II, and .. That's it. He never got to playing The Last Ninja or any of the other great C64 games..
devro - 2003-09-18 What was all that green stuff about! love this game to bits!
Ahmad - 2003-09-17 Boulder Dash Happens to be one of my favourite arcade games on C64. I have Boulder Dash 1, 2, 3 and of course number 9. Everytime I play these games I keep on listening to any 80's music from Madonna as always. It sounds weird I know, but I can't help it. Anyways also good music at the beginning, very nice sounds as well and good frames too especially with the two monster that follow me around, the butterfly and that sqaure which I don't know what to call it. Great game to play. I'm gonna rate 10 for this one.
ray daley - 2003-07-28 THE best game EVER created.
Diego Z - 2003-07-26 One of the most played. A real classic.
Steve - 2003-07-21 This is the best game ever, perhaps only it's subsequent games are better. The construction kit rules!
Zlatomir Vosecek - 2003-07-11 I found in Internet over 1000 Boulder Dash games (Roms) for C64 Emulator. And all this games for Free. My Lang.: German
Riggz - 2003-07-03 Toggle! you should have used the boulder dash construction kit! You just couldn't leave it alone. This game had amazing longevity, I just wish I still had my copy. P.s did anyone play REPTON on the BBC Micro? was it a rip off or what???
teddy - 2003-07-03 Mint game and it only took 29 sec to load up
The Mirror - 2003-07-02 I still play it! The Best!
Toggle - 2003-07-02 This is so overrated. It's an okay game, nothing more - nothing less.
Tiffany - 2003-06-24 I loved Boulder dash as a kid I hate that you can't find it now and it isn't easy to find to download... I owuld pay for it and you can't find it.
GILO - 2003-06-12 Be the boulder, be the boulder. A game with a steep learning curve, which added to its logevity and appeal. The timer was harsh, the boulders unforgiving and why not, you were risking life and limb for precious diamonds! I heard Rockford retired to live the life of luxury in Monaco. Alex, how can you criticize the physics of the game for chrisake?! Its entertainment - not mathmatical logorythms.
David Knight - 2003-06-06 Never liked it. About an evening's worth of entertainment there.
Stavros - 2003-05-30 I`ve just played the sid tune and it`s soooooooooo funky! 10 out of 10
Paul Zagar - 2003-05-22 Awesome game, at the time, and even after all these years, I would say one of my top 10 favourites of all times! Hours and hours of fun!
Ezca - 2003-05-22 The tune! One loop lasts 20 secs but I listen to it now non-stop with my sidplayer, sometimes for hours.
Fizza - 2003-05-04 Never saw the fuss over it, a good game I'll admit, but not the best on the C64 IMHO.
Jolly Roger - 2003-04-24 Simply a Classic with a capital C.
Vim - 2003-04-21 A superb game, it goes without saying. The recent GBA version has a version of the original, but it doesn't have that slow scrolling like the C64, and it's missed.
Bill Allwell - 2003-04-20 Literally the most addictive game I've ever played. Many hours of sleep lost on that one.
ABS - 2003-04-18 The perfect videogame.
DeAdLy_cOoKiE - 2003-04-12 Classic. The whole series. Great concept. Timeless really. Great tune. Who doesn't know Boulder Dash?
Rob - 2003-03-27 Original and still the best.
Tom - 2003-01-24 I wonder why today's game producers don't re-release games like Boulder Dash, HERO and Fort Apocalypse in 2D with up-to date graphics and soundtracks ? The gameplay is superb, and I wouldn't mind paying full price for such a gem on a Playstation 2 for instance. I played these games on a C64 recently and the graphics just don't cut it anymore. Can please someone listen to the oldboys from the C64 generation and bring these games to the newer consoles ???
TWR - 2003-01-17 Comments not needed. EVERYONE loved this game...
Dc The Bear - 2003-01-01 Nothing came close in great games until the construction kit and Worms
ian - 2002-12-24 A classic used to play this for hours...why cant modern games be as addictivie as this !
Cliff Coleclough - 2002-12-13 I loved to crank the volume whenever I had a series of rocks ready to crash down. Fantastic game.
fyl - 2002-12-12 Digital crack for 14-year olds and above !
Mark Lee May - 2002-12-09 Another classic
Scat - 2002-11-29 Oh, guys this game is special, what a game!!!
Devilhood! - 2002-10-28 Oh man, this game was just so addictive, it was what made me so excited when I got home from school everyday
Molle - 2002-10-22 You simply could not stop playing it!!! Just one more time, just one more time...
O.Virell - 2002-09-29 Boulder Dash isn't really a game, it's actually a way of life, a philosophy.
dan - 2002-09-23 If you have to list all time classics along with doom, civilization and tetris you just have got to count this as well as it's a timeless classic, nothing short.nuff said.
Lonestarr - 2002-09-09 Great gameplay. Very addictive. If you've never played it, I envy you because you can still discover it.
Deljron - 2002-08-26 One of my all time most liked games ;-)
rew - 2002-08-22 I have completed bd1,2,3 and I am proud of myself! that's the best game for c64 greetz for all(especially fss and p.l.)
shteev - 2002-08-14 A fine, fine game. I await the 3D-ified Windows version with dread... But honestly, they'll have to put a lot of work in to spoil a concept like this. Difficult, but immensely rewarding.
MR - 2002-07-23 Boulder Dash is the best game for C64 ! Second is Nebulus
Peter Ho - 2002-07-13 Question for Peter Liepa: Do you still make games?
WauloK - 2002-07-09 Will the real Peter Liepa please stand up? This game rocked. Just about to download it to play on an emulator.
Peter Ho - 2002-06-12 I played this game only on my old C64. I was dissappointed when my C64 was crashed, then years and years later I tried to find a game that was exact the same as this one, but I didn't remember the title of the game. Since 1999 I found on the internet the link EMUCAMP.COM and I was happy when I saw the screenshot of Boulderdash. Now I still play this game and the construction kit is good. 10 for this game.
Noerf - 2002-05-24 This is of course the best game on earth(with Nebulus). I am still playing it on my old C64.
Peter Liepa - 2002-05-15 Well I must say, I agree with rezo, this game was something special for its day. Considering it was 1984 and yes it was awarded best graphics for a C64 game.! so how comes the reviewer gave the graphics 4, as he had a real good look at the graphics or just by going whats on the cover.!! Thanks to rezo for the support on the last comment.!! this is peter liepa signing off.!!
rezo - 2002-05-11 Boulderdash is in league of its own, and the reviewer must have been on planet were am i, to give this game 8/10 and saying the graphics were poor, the graphics were something special for its day, and how comes it got voted for award winning graphics if they are poor.!!, I love this game, and only just managed to complete it.!! ...
Alex Aslanidis - 2002-04-03 I never quite understood what all the fuss was about Boulderdash. I guess it's mildly addictive at first, but I got bored after a while. My main problem with the game was the somewhat strange and unpredictable way the rocks fall. The physics of the game are somehow not very well executed. I 'll give it a 5/10.
dave - 2002-02-27 Good game, but hard! Real hard.
Shane - 2002-02-05 Rockford: one of the coolest characters ever to grace the 64 in one of my all time favourite puzzle games.
Oldskool - 2002-01-31 Classic puzzler.
Michael R. - 2002-01-02 Best game ever created for the C-64.
