Scout79 - 2012-07-29 A brilliant concept executed in a timeless fashion. Still play this to this day. 9 / 10
ioport - 2012-07-04 I would have kept my worthless Wii system had Nintendo made this game available as a Virtual Console download in the US. But alas, Europe and Japan only. $@*#!
karter - 2012-05-20 I feel ashamed for not writing anything until today for a masterpiece like this one. Should be at the top with the sentinel.
Elvir - 2012-05-13 A masterpiece!
The Paradroid - 2011-07-02 The greatest computer game ever made!!
raresaturn - 2011-03-25 I loved this, very original game
Steven Buck - 2011-03-23 Oh Man how cool is this game has to go down a one of the all time classics on the C64 played this game for hours on end and love it to bits even the amiga version didn't come close to this! totally original absolute masterpiece! and so much fun to play. I used to complete it and just start all over again it is that good!. how anybody could rate it a 1 or 2 is beyond me and to think this was from 1985 WOW top chrome style colour graphics and awesome 8 bit sound PLAY IT NOW!!! you wont be disappointed.
Richard of TND - 2011-01-18 Andrew Braybrook's gold star game which graced the Zzap 64 cover tape. Brilliant concept and game play. Weird sound effects in the title screen. A shame this version never used the loader in the champion edition
Demon - 2011-01-06 Finally managed to play this game seriously, i.e. After reading the manual
habib23q - 2010-12-26 Awesome game that has and will always be so addictive..shows how great the old c64 games could be!!!
retrogamer-downunder - 2010-09-02 Pure gold my friends!!! paradroid is one of the very best 64 games ever! the graphics are well suited, the sound is really out there and totally suitable for this game, and last of all this is so incredibly addictive!!! this a perfect 10 game.
LeC64win - 2010-06-12 (Wot iPhone... I prefer to play this jewel in LIFE-SIZE on a real TV-screen with my C64-joystick.)
LeC64win - 2010-06-12 Paradroid is a real gem; I had and I'm still having very good times playing this game. I am very pleased that I can play this wonderfull shoot em up now on my plug in TV-C64! The game has a great atmosphere and is really special. If you want to try a good C64-game, than you should try Paradroid.
Sith-Smasher - 2010-01-28 Graphics are nothing special but who needs them when you got gameplay like this! Involves reflexes and strategy. A great timeless game from the legendary Andrew Braybrook.
VenlyssPnorr - 2010-01-06 Possibly my favourite C64 game of all time, a solid gold classic. I recently dug out my C64 and gave this gem a go but couldn't get near any of my old hi-scores :/ This game has aged exceedingly well. 10/10.
bronstein - 2009-07-24 Contrary to the other two games of Braybrook's legendary triple stroke ( "Paradroid", "Uridium" and "Alleykat" ), this one doesn't look spectacular at first sight, but turns out to be most original and long-lasting. It's a perpetual challenge, you may still enjoy it in 2050. What's missing though is that this early 8bit work of art has never been updated on the Commie itself. There's nothing wrong with colourful graphics and neat sound effects. For this reason it should be mentioned that "Paradroid '90" was indeed an improvement, and should have been converted to the 8bit Commie as well.
blakespot - 2009-03-08 The game now exists for the iPhone. [www]
64kShoeBox - 2009-01-14 In that rarest of categories, a retro game that doesn't betray your fond memories once you re-play it. Utterly original and completely compelling a bona fide classic.
tachikoma - 2008-12-08 This one sits firmly in my top 5 and still, to this day, helps me waste hours and hours of my time
TNT - 2008-10-09 There was a time when I thought Paradroid (Competition Edition) was perfect. Now I know better
Henry1975 - 2008-06-27 One of my all time favorites! Kept in mind for all times.
tvcars - 2008-04-09 One of the best games of all time even by todays standards sadly. The mini game worked so well, everything in the game just works together beautifully. Supreme all time fav!
Il Notturno - 2007-10-27 ... I don't like this game... Nothing attracts me here...
oldskool - 2007-09-14 Check out my Game&Watch version of Paradroid at [www]
Moon - 2007-08-21 One of my absolute favourites of all time. Check out my longplay video of finishing the first ship over at [www]
Richard16378 - 2007-07-21 This is one scary game! For a long time I didn't read the intructions so had no idea how to do the transfer sequence. After finding & consulting them I eventually managed to take over another robot. The ones that fired a single large laser beam or the disrupter were great to take over. I nearly laughed when I found one of the higher numbed robots was shaped like a Dalek! I only ever cleared one or two levels. The transfer would always fail at a crucial stage.
RasterScan - 2007-05-26 What can you say about Paradroid that hasn't already been said? The atmosphere, thick with tension and claustrophobia, enticed you in and just wouldn't let you go. I remember spending practically the whole of my Christmas holiday playing this back in '85 and then beyond. I was and never have been particularly adept at playing computer games (although I've always been an avid fan). However, I did appreciate the fact that Andrew Braybrook had designed a game that encouraged you to keep trying and that didn't continually test your patience with either a steep learning curve or the need for pixel-perfect precision. Sure enough, with each attempt you seemed to travel just that little bit further into the game and, quite unusually for me anyway, gained a real sense of achievement. To Andrew Braybrook - Top man.
Hammerman Returns - 2007-01-20 Upon first thoughts, it's no eye candy but the gameplay is exhilarating and interesting. If your "001" and you come across droids in the 700s, 800s or 900s, your done for! One of my favourite games that I didn't discover in my childhood!
Jeeves - 2006-04-12 Brilliant. I havent tried Heavy Metal Paradroid but this version is easily one of the best games I ever played. I think even the 16 bit versions lacked the multidirectional scrolling of this one (i could be wrong). I was one of those people who dismissed this game coz it looked drab and thought the concept was boring but man did I realise how wrong I was when I finally got to play it.
jmc - 2006-03-30 One of the 10 best (the prefered of "jmr" ) we did get the instructions so when trying to chage fromone robot to another we get some luck/bad luck. but with patience "jmr" was analysing instead of playing and after a lot of games understood what to do and then we terminate the 1st level (it seems that it was the same for the other levels in harder ??) but I still remmeber using the ferocious 476 the 1 minute dreadly 999 but the best was the 821 (bottom of 999) with is double laserbeam, long life, and a lot of energy arrows to take over another mechanical victim great
gklinger - 2006-03-05 Paradroid is awesome. I can't think of another game that did a better job of integrating action (when you're moving about the ship) and logic puzzles (when you're battling for control). It's like two games in one. As for the graphics, they may be simple but I think they look superb. I don't mean to insult anyone but if you didn't like Paradroid it's probably because you didn't understand how to deal with the puzzle part of the game. Once you get the hang of that, you're hooked for life. Guaranteed. Paradroid earned it's place in my Top 5 games of all time. Thank you Andrew Braybrook!
acidzebra - 2005-10-09 One of the best C64 games out there. The graphics were nothing special but the gameplay design is extremely clever. Braybook (together with Jeff Minter) makes a C64 worth having.
KK33 - 2005-09-29 Best C64 game ever!
sdoneill - 2005-05-03 One of those games where it wasn't about the graphics but the gameplay. A thinking mans game.
LennyB - 2005-04-11 One of the best games of all time, easily. The Heavy Metal edition actually manages to imrove on this having slightly better graphics.
Joti - 2004-08-28 THE BEST C64 GAME EVER!!! Once you were good you could go from a 001 to a 476 straight off and who could forget the 742s with their sonar blast weapon??? As a 999 you would only last a minute or so!!!
Fruitbat - 2004-07-18 Did anyone else notice that on some parts of the ship the background sounds were like someone going "here kitty kitty kitty..." or is it just me? !
Fruitbat - 2004-07-18 Shite graphics, eerie sounds, wicked gameplay! When I first loaded this up and saw the graphics I thought "What the fuck is THIS?!!" :-( But the thing is, the simplicity of the graphics actually adds to the game and makes it more playable. You can see at a glance exactly what kind of enemy robots you're up against with their easily readable type-number (remember that sense of sheer panic as you turned a corner to be faced with a 999 droid! Eeek!) The background is simple, uncluttered and functional. So many games suffered from the problem where the player struggled to tell what was going on because the sprites merged into a over-detailed and cluttered background. No such problems with this. Cont...
Fruitbat - 2004-07-18 Cont... The gameplay itself was amazing. Such a simple idea you'd wonder why no-one ever though of it before - perfectly executed by one of the most talented C64 programmers. I loved the way that you could move freely between all the decks of each ship, perhaps clear a couple of easier decks to build your confidence before wading into the decks inhabited by hordes of 700/800 series droids! Also loved the idea that the host droid would eventually 'throw out' the parasitic influence device, forcing the player to transfer to another host droid on a regular basis. No battling your way up to a 999 droid and then resting on your laurels, hehe! The more powerful the host, the quicker you got thrown out. And the transfer sub-game itself - again simplicity itself but such fun and perfectly executed. Well done Andrew you're a star. 10/10 P.s. I'm still playing it all these years later. (18/7/2004!)
Jamie Phillips - 2004-05-30 Stunning, stunning, stunning. I thought the graphics were great; not technically, but in design. The bas-relief jumped of the screen. Anyone remember the development diary Braybrook wrote in Zzap! 64? It was compelling reading, especially when he had to go and rewrite whole sections when he ran out of memory. Really fascinated me and made me long to be a games programmer. Andrew Braybrook - one of the all time greatest games programmers.
The Down and Out - 2004-05-13 Okay. Here's the deal. When one is a little dude and one plays a game where the feeling of suspense is so great it is akin to the buzz one would get when being chased by a maniac from a horror film, say for example, Michael from Halloween, then the game has achieved greatness beyond description.Paradroid is such a game and those 883 droids still freak me out. Fantastico!
dandy2k - 2004-05-12 One of the best C64 games of all time. Period.
TommyDare - 2004-05-07 RUBBISH! Awful use of colours, gameplay doesn't make sense! Definatelly one of C64's worse overrated games. Let this shit die. 2/10
Endurion - 2004-04-14 A true classic. I ever managed to finished the first ship, and got the code for the second (StarHawk). Did anyone get other codes for more ships?
raven70 - 2004-04-13 This is definitely one of my top 5 games! This game was 100% about the gameplay. My thought has always been how incredible this game would be with cutting edge graphics and sound of today's computers. Very addictive.
Daniel - 2004-04-05 In my top 5. Because the gameplay is unique it took a little to get used to but once you get a feel for what's going on it becomes very addictive. The sighting of a new robot is always exciting and as you play more you get know the character of each different type. Considering that we're talking about sprites look the same except for the number, it's quite amazing how you can verge on panic when you sight a particularly nasty droid heading your way!
Predseda - 2004-03-30 Game concept is excellent, but because of its simple graphics I wasn´t hooked by this game on C64. 5 years later the game was re-written on Amiga, with new music, new graphic, but with the same spirit, that is uncahllenged. Since this time I can't sleep...
FishingCoach - 2004-03-08 Well remmeber this game. Almost stopped me revising for my A-Levels to Quote Comic Biik Guy "Best game Everrr!!" - Andy B ur a Genius
Hammerman - 2004-02-20 Very addictive gameplay. That little guy be a laser shooting,wiry,human-like vietnamese child chopping swallower for the republic of Kanakstan!
Ahmad - 2004-02-18 This is one of the coolest games ever to be played on C64. When I first played it, I find it hard, but sense then I started to get the hang of it and I did. I Shot all of those black robots, some easy to shoot at and some are not like 999, but I can translated the robot and I become that robot number with a good weapon as well. We always have to start with 001. I'm so glad I still have this at home. Good graphics, and sounds are really good. I wonder how they make those sounds on this game? Oh well I don't need to worry about it anyway. Excellent game to play on C64.
Tom - 2004-02-16 Has anyone ever completed all of the ships without cheating?
Andyman - 2004-01-19 I was spoiled bad when this game came out; I used to work for a C64 game mail order company and was able to play virtually every game published. Part of my job was to test "faulty" games sent back from customers. I always found an excuse to "test" Paradroid, although no one ever sent a copy back. Of the 100s of games I played back then, this was THE game. Smart, funny and addictive; and with the most believeable storyline of its day. Rock on PARADROID.
mbeswick - 2004-01-16 Such a brilliantly conceived game. I remember Zzap gave this game 100% for Presentation. I would have been tempted to give it 100% overall. I loved the way the droids had their own characters, from the nippy 302 to the stroppy git that was 476. I have this on the Paradroid/Uridium double edition. I'll never get rid of it.
uridiodroid - 2004-01-05 Andrew Braybrook made a big and excellent game and he is still alive. Search some crawlers and you'll get his email and he even answers. Hewson/graftgold rules forever.
Stinaris - 2003-12-16 My most played game of all time. Superb from the title screen, superb atmospheric sound, superb scrolling graphics. Even the simplicity of the robots cannot be underestimated, have you ever played Paradroid 90 on the Amiga!!! Sublime and all time classic with Elite, Sentinel and Dropzone.
R.S.S. - 2003-11-07 Did Andrew Braybrook ever make a less than superb game? I think not.
Kimmen - 2003-10-29 My number 1 of the top-10n C64-games of all time!!! Best game EVER!!!
Lane - 2003-10-17 A-G-E-L-E-S-S
ooey - 2003-10-14 A great concept, spoiled by the fact that I seem to remember that when you shut down one ship, the deck layout of the new ship to conquer was identical!
InnerSymbiance - 2003-09-28 This game had hidden depth and the greyscale was part of the C64 scene back then (Bogg Music Demos..) This game required fast, intelligent thinking (probably why some people called it shite? - because grey matter was required). Well to be more constructive., it played on a level that brought new C64 owners into the fold., its gameplay kept them coming back for more. Paradroid for me was another of the defining games that MADE the C64. There are many class(ic) C64 games, many deserved of a mention, but only so many set the pace, Sentinal, FF and companies like Rabbit, Alligator, Interceptor software, Mastertronics and so on. Hewson (and Godlike Andrew) deserve to be up there at the top and for a long time they did just that. Uridium, Paradroid and a few others established Hewson as one of the premier Commodore 64 software houses.
jeroen - 2003-09-11 Woh...If I should believe your comments...this game should be one of the best. When I look at the graphics...I cannot understand what's so special about it. I gues it's the gameplay that rocks. If someone could send me a tape-copy!!!
dena - 2003-09-06 THIS is my favourite game!
TimboAgain! - 2003-09-03 For an "excellent" and pretty 2003 updated windows clone, go to ------- freedroid.sourceforge.net --- and download the two "zip" files for "Freedroid Classic"! This updated clone is AWESOME!!!
Timbo - 2003-09-03 Pure inspiration! Andrew Braybrook you were and are a genius! Those few that whinge about it having crappy graphics should remember that the cool, shiny, bas-relief graphics were spectacular in their day. Even so, its the awesome gameplay that everyone remembers!
Rick - 2003-09-01 If 11 out of 10 is a possible score then that's what I'd give this game. The Amiga remake Paradroid 90 is also pretty cool but it doesn't have as many different droids as the C64 version. A truely awesome game.
Garryboy - 2003-08-22 2 Words to explain this game - Pure-Shit. Look at it, the graphics are so ugly, colour use is gross to the eyes. Sorry site.
Kris - 2003-08-21 The legions of people and `money-men` in suits responsible for today`s `arty-farty` games want to take a deep breath, get back to basics, and take a good look at this gem.A true corker, only completed once again.a looong time back!
Lazyjones - 2003-08-10 I will never forget this game, this is one of the best i've played on C64 I always play it, with emulators or with my old C64 machine :-) I want a Paradroid II !! please Andrew ..
Andy D - 2003-08-08 This is one of my all time favourite games. Awesome gameplay in all incarnations. I hope Jester Interactive bring it back with a vengance sometime soon
Eirik - 2003-07-30 BEST 64 GAME EVER. My friend and I named one level 'The Arena'. I think it had 700 series droids on it and great fights. I think I could takeover any droid in my sleep back in the day. When I got to the Metahawk, it might have been the happiest day of my life.
Karaya 1 - 2003-07-29 I LOVE THIS GAME ! ! !
Crescentfinger - 2003-07-28 Paradroid is the best C64 game that was ever made! It brings back so many memories playing it. Thanks for providing it!
Andrew - 2003-07-22 The best ever, what more can I say. Thank you andrew braybrook... do a Version thats up to the year 2003...It would sell to all us retro gamers like hot cakes...
Ant G - 2003-07-10 My ALL TIME FAVOURITE C64 game! Just got myself a C64 from Ebay JUST to play this again. Classic, classic stuff. 10/10 all the way. Mr Braybrook, we salute you!
snoproblem - 2003-07-07 Nice to know I'm not alone. Paradroid, along with Uridium, was arguably one the best reasons for owning a c-64 back then. C'mon Braybrook, where's the PC version?
Huw the Poo - 2003-07-06 Ah, so it's not just me, then? This is one of THE best games of ALL time. I didn't really like shooters, even back in the day when I was just a lad, but there was just something about this game. Does everyone remember getting the 700-800 robots (I think) that had the smartbomb-type weapon and feeling invincible? Pity you used to run out of energy so fast with those things. There was another game which ripped off the sub-game (where you capture another robot for use) but I can't think which one it is now.
JimB - 2003-07-06 Andrew Braybrook went on to write what he would probably consider to be better games, but for me, this one was the ultimate! I was a Spectrum owner at the time, but the sheer force of playability of Paradroid was the main reason that I bought a second-hand C64. Contrary to some comments here, I don't think it's lost anything in the eighteen-odd years since its release. Timeless stuff, and kudos to Mr. Braybrook for bringing such a beautiful game into being.
TWR - 2003-07-04 My Paradroid disk was fucked up when I was re-cracking the shit. (To shorten the game) Beer all over !!! Mail me [@] if you have a copy to give !!!
Balage - 2003-06-21 Whenever I see its title, I think about Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid'
WANDUS - 2003-05-28 It became a classic because it effortlessly combined elements from various types of games (shoot 'em up, exploration / cartography, strategy, reaction, skill). Its storyline was additionally augmented by atmospheric 'database'-screens. This was quite a lot of variety for a 64kb-game. The challenge of liberating all space vessels was immensely captivating, due in large part to the great level of playability (a Braybrook speciality): success or failure depended entirely on the player's abilities. Lastly, it was a clever idea to make the main robot-sprites abstract, whilst presenting their actual looks only in the 'database'-files; whenever you met something like the dreaded '999', you shuddered as though you had remembered a horrible memento - your subconscious recollection of the detailed depiction of the droid in question! For the record, an 'update' called 'Heavy Metal Paradroid' was released two years later, featuring new levels as well as faster and smoother scrolling.
Parabored - 2003-05-28 I remember being absolutely hooked on this game. Genuine bit of video-crack in its time. Yet can't help feel nostalgia outweighs reality at times... Just played again and boy is it dated! Still fun but not as much as I remember. Guess modern consoles etc have spoiled us.
Lemonope - 2003-05-15 What is the appeal of this game?! It spread around so much, everybody had a copy of it. In the 80s when I loaded this up by accident serveral times. I couldn't get into this, and then late 90s I find out that this was one of the top 10 classics out of 15,000 games!?!... I now and then boot this up in an emulator and still cannot find the appeal to this!.. Absolutely Trash in my mind... None of my C64 friends never raved on about it! Yet it was such a common game.
Madras - 2003-05-13 Pricey, re the sprite multiplexor and 256 sprites - you are confusing Paradroid with the later Braybrook game Morpheus.
Pricey - 2003-05-13 This game is the utlimate in playability. When it was written in the 80's I was a proud owner of a 64 and watched with glee as speccy owners weeped at how good paradroid was. Those old enough to be around in the purple patch of the C64 may remember that ZZap64 magazine ran a feature which spanned about 5 issues following the whole development of this game with many great screen shots, and talk of how Andrew Braybrooks Floppy drive 'Machine Gunned' and failed, forcing him to go borrow one so that he could carry on working on the project. I remember seeing a screen shot where Andrew had managed to get 256 sprites on the screen all at once (amazing considering the C64 only handled 8 as standard) by using raster interrupts, play this game and when you get overjoyed by how addictive it is then remember that its all fitted into less than 64k of computer memory to run!
Medusa - 2003-04-28 999... Yeeeaaaahhhh!!! 821... What a power laser 476... Fast and good 302... Very quick, not more a genius game, thanks Andrew
Gremlin007 - 2003-04-23 One of the most innovative games ever done. Thanks to Andrew Braybrook for this gleaming jewel!
Paralovindroid - 2003-04-10 This was an amazing game. This is one of the most timeless and fun games, melding top-down shooter, strategy, and puzzle to a small level in a panacaea of awesome gaming! Only gripes are save support and some sort of ending... Way up in my top 10
paradroid - 2003-04-08 Truely a classic ! one of the best C64 games ever... 10 points !
Lemonope - 2003-04-06 This game is absolute Crap! Dull Graphics, Cheap SFX, Pointless gameplay, 100% unrealistic. Overall: Total Rubbish!! -1/10.
Jojo - 2003-03-26 One of the few games that I've been playing for DAYS...litterally! Andrew Braybrook: u're a genius!
Walrus - 2003-03-23 A true classic. So damn addictive and playable, one of the very best games released for the old 64 and btter than the 1990 16-bit remake.
DjangMan - 2003-02-11 Loved it. Made it through 1 ship and had one deck left on the second ship. Loved it. Makes me wish I still had my C64.
ZeFlat - 2003-02-10 One of my favourite game on C64 ! A must have ! This game released in 85 was incredibly in advance for its time and for C64 !
Glen - 2003-02-10 Ranks as my all time favourite game on any platform. Why its not listed in more top games lists I cant understand. Captures the essense of gaming with perfect balance between simplicity and complexity. Man I was addicted to this one...
Johnny V - 2003-02-06 Genius !! a true C64 classic.
David Wilkinson - 2003-02-05 Fantastic game! Best bit was the battle to possess other robots ( which Neocron has just ripped off as a hacking interface) Never completed a ship but did possess 999 a few times. Someone even coded a PC version. Should be re-released!!
paddleboy - 2003-02-04 I feel terrible. I didn't understand the game and told all my friends at school that I thought it was the best and that I played it all the time. However I have just had a conversation with someone at work which made me remember that I never read the instructions. What a looser. I'm going to find that ROM and bloody well play it now.
Anders Nielsen - 2003-01-29 From the man who brought us Uridium and Rainbow Islands, comes the pinnacle of gameplay: Paradroid. Simple, ugly, but fun, fun, fun! And one of the very few C64 that still holds up to this day.
001 - 2003-01-29 Yeah! The lord of C64 games! This game truly deserved its ZZapp64! gold medal. Good one Andy Braybrook. I just cant wait until it's remade for modern computer platforms with full internet playabilty. Hours of fun a must have. GET IT TODAY!
Bob - 2003-01-20 Nice combination of action and strategy. Still fun to play to this day (I even managed to complete it for the first time last year). Excellent fun for all beerdrinkingsessions.
TWR - 2003-01-16 Cool Game!
Rick Kulacki Jr. - 2003-01-07 Brilliant idea for a game, with superb gameplay, and the key to any game...the feeling you have to play one more time, just to see if you can do better.
Rick Kulacki Jr. - 2003-01-07 Brilliant idea for a game, with superb gameplay, and the key to any game...the feeling you have to play one more time, just to see if you can do better.
Justin Sattin - 2002-12-22 This was one of my very favourites of the many outstanding C=64 games. The subgame in which you have to outmaneuver the computer in order to take over a robot's circuitry is simply brilliant. What a pleasant surprise to see how generally well-regarded this game is!
Felipe - 2002-12-18 This game change my life, spent hours playing the game and destroying my computer from the sheer frustration of it. I enjoyed reading the manuals about all the different robots, it allowed for a little imagination to be used, since on screen all the robots looked the same but some looked like darlicks others had human figures. Silly niave me thought the game did have an ending, the truth does not set me free.
Dan - 2002-12-14 This Game was quite amazing to me, just as the cool R2D2-like Sound FX (really psychotic). Simple Concept but Ingenius and funtastic gameplay, like many of the ol' C64 Games. Of the 2000 Times I played this game, I managed it one time till the 3rd Ship, then I gave up, because then difficulty level actually didn't raise, and that got boring!
dandy2000 - 2002-11-19 This is one of the best and most memorable games on the 64, period. The graphics are simple yet very good and the gameplay is original and loads of fun.
Em - 2002-11-10 Just found lemon64.com today - can't believe I wasn't the only one who thought Paradroid rocked!! Spent far too many hours running around the ships, bashing into droids, running away from 999! I never managed to complete a ship, but loved trying - a save option would have been great. But no complaints, great sound FX, playability and hours of fun!
dogboy - 2002-11-03 This was a great game. It was Original & easy to play but difficult to get anywhere. A perfect recipe for a good game. Some of the gaming elements in this put todays game's to shame. A true classic.
chrisj - 2002-11-02 I think it's a very good game with a good interest. i think it's very interessant to take the comand of another robot . The game of today should take this exemple to make a good game
Tayzyboy - 2002-10-27 BRILLIANT!. The best thing for me was the difference in power you felt when controling the big 999 robot just for 10 seconds more..then all of a sudden bang, your back with your 001 trying to find a tubolift s***ing yourself! . :-)classic!!!
Dave Tucker - 2002-10-25 My #1 favourite all time game on the C64 (well, this and Bolder Dash Construction Kit) My brother and I spent countless hours with this awesome game
blagger - 2002-10-19 Classic. Innovative concept and the execution was perfect. One of the few games that deserve to be remembered as classic. I still think this hasn't aged one bit.
Marko - 2002-10-06 A praise to Andrew Braybrook for this game. I have spent much time to clear all ships of the robots, but I solved only two once. It was a shame, that you haven't the opportunity to save a game. The scrolling was superb and I have often cursed, that the other robot has the better possibilites to solve the taking over.
tom davis - 2002-09-29 Simply phenomenal. The best thing about the original was that it was a one-loader, which rates it higher than a lot of "classic" platformers which crashed during multiload... Definitely should be up in the top ten!!!
Gina - 2002-09-15 Dunno what it is about this game but I still like to load it up about once a month or so and play for hours. So addicting as it's lead to many sleep-deprived nights!
Hunter - 2002-09-03 What can I say that all the other reviewers haven't already said? Unique, creative, original, atmosphereic, psychaldelic,...I can't think of all the great words to describe this most valuable game-gem! This is the exemplification of GAMEPLAY at it's fullest! More addictive than smack or crack, and about as addictive as today's UT...even though it is now 17 years old! On one hand, I say should one screw-around with a Classic? OTOH, this should be re-released for today! Dis game f***in' rules!
Darcy - 2002-08-28 Simple, captivating and pure genius... Kudos to Braybrook for creating so many special memories for us!
piln - 2002-08-26 Not much to say that hasn't already been said; this is a masterpiece of game design, and a game that has aged remarkably well. I see that the transfer game has been copied wholesale for the new MMORPG Neocron.
yeti - 2002-08-24 Paradroid is without discussion one of the best games ever made. Andrew Braybrook's geniously crafted concept and unique athmosphere are hard to top even today. Every serious gamer and game developer should know this game!
shteev - 2002-08-14 Well, I'm pretty bored of this now... But then i've had TEN YEARS of solid, enjoyable gameplay out of this, so I can't complain!!
CharlieF - 2002-08-07 This is my fave game of all time. Amazingly I still play it!! Hows that for lastability. Bought it after reading Zzap!! 64 rave review. They were spot on with the scores. This game had Speccy fans spitting!!!
Troy - 2002-08-07 Still have it. Still play it! 10/10 4sure
DeAdLy_cOoKiE - 2002-07-12 A timeless classic! Unique in look & gameplay. Bot hacking, terminals, multiple levels in a space ship. The C64 version is the best version (the Amiga version didn't do justice)! Hmm... This game would do great as a cell-phone game, no? =)
Bandicoot - 2002-07-09 Thanks to Andrew Braybrook for this one! Thanks man!
g - 2002-06-24 Spend a bit of time getting used to the transfers and you won't stop playing...Ever!!! Mwahaha
Agente de Mousse - 2002-06-20 Alsolutement fantastique 10/10 sans doubte!
dreamscape - 2002-05-27 This game is THE reason I just bought a "new" C64 with a stack of games.
Alan Mitic - 2002-05-24 The greatest C64 game ever made. The gameplay is as good now as it was back then.
Cam - 2002-05-14 10/10. This game IS the C64, it was games like paradroid, with exceptional gameplay that made the machine. Obviously people who give Paradroid less than a 9/10 have never grown up with the C64 or they would know what a Classic game this is. A true benchmark for playability, addictiveness and outright fun.
alex - 2002-04-30 10/10 easily the best game on the C64. Proves why the computer itself was so popular... Limited by 64Kb, the programmers had no option but to focus on gameplay - and this game had it in spades. Comparable to the all time classics on the video games list - Dungeon Master on the Amiga and Civilization on the PC, Paradroid showed what could be achieved. Why anyone hasn't done a PC version (with an equal focus on gameplay, and not 3D crap graphics) I don't understand.
The Vote Police - 2002-04-17 10/10. This game can only be improved in one way. That it become standard on every mobile phone (cellphone?), digital watch, washing machine and microwave oven. Better than Tetris. Oh why does it languish at 5.7 out of ten. Old but gold.
Suckachump - 2002-03-28 This game should have a 10/10 rating. Absolutely one of the best games to come out on the C64. I suspect the algorithm for calculating the rating is flawed. This game is the reason I started paying attention to emulation.
Lord Smeagol - 2002-03-14 5.5 out of 10 ??? what rubbish. This game is one of the most original and addictive games i've ever played; on any platform! A true classic. Its got to be 9.99/10
Ceri - 2002-03-14 Most of these rating averages appear to bear no resemblance to the actual quality of the game in question. Must be people just giving it a "1" rating to be funny (ho ho...zzzzzz). Paradroid was one of the greatest C64 games ever made and anyone who experienced the 64 era knows it full well.
Dave - 2002-03-08 A 5.4 ??? erase that score, Paradroid deserves an 11 !! No game ever surpassed that gameplay. Paradroid wrote gaming history !!!
Gøran Hansen - 2002-02-23 I loved it. I still do. Best game ever. Braybrook is God.
Peter - 2002-02-11 BRILLIANT is the only word to describe this game! My friends and I lost a lot of sleep over this one. I just wish modern PC/Console games had this kind of originality and playability...
Roy - 2002-02-03 This is the best computer game ever. I just finished Oni on my Mac the other week, it was great by current gaming standards, but doesn't hold a candle to Paradroid. The Amiga version, Paradroid '90 was actually inferior because it only scrolled vertically. Never mind the graphics, this game was about playability.
JAMES - 2002-02-03 This game is allways going to be good. Basicly is so good because it is so simple to play
Oldskool - 2002-02-01 Another feather in maestro Andrew Braybrook's cap. Again, his creativity is both captivating and infectious! The action is slick, the now-immortal transfer game is ingenious and the multitude of robot designs is testament to Braybrook's unique imagination.
trantor - 2002-01-29 What a game. i cannot say enough about this game..classic,classic,classic. how can it only have 5 /10??? it was a bench mark in C64 games. smila... I agree with you 200%
Craig - 2002-01-27 Not much to add after the below comments - Just a classic and unique in its look a play. Play it now !!!
smila - 2002-01-17 The first C64 classic.
azoxystrobin - 2002-01-14 Yes it was good and addictive. but it gets dull after you have completed the 4th ship. i loved this game!!! so where's paradroid+ ?
Tosh - 2002-01-12 Paradroid for C64 This is the greatest concept for a computer game with a timeless charm. Graphically simple. Easy to pick up. Ages to master. Unique! Wow. This title from Andrew Braybrook set new standards for gameplay and longevity which remain unsurpassed. If it were possible to come up with a multiplayer version faithful to the original it could take the world by storm. But then again it is only a game afterall.
Collywobbles - 2002-01-09 Pure class. I'm still waiting for the multiplayer PC version...
Led*Zep - 2002-01-01 Yes!! Life really is good, got a copy from ebay not so long ago, I load it up, Wow it is still just so good, Braybrook at his best...
Broady - 2001-12-29 A true classic. My speccy owning mates insisted (and still do to this day) that Quazatron was better, but I just laughed in their face. C64 Paradroid was gaming gold.
Matt - 2001-12-28 One of the best games ever! I kept my 64 just for this.
