A few months ago I played Gauntlet III on emu (Vice) for about two hours. It's a well designed game with good playability, lots of different enemies, quests, a technically interesting isometric viewpoint and great presentation. Graphics are lush, colourful and a pleasure to look at. The enemy AI is much more refined than in the prequels, they don't just line up, waiting to be slaughtered, but are way more sneaky and clever. Despite the many bugs that still are present in this the last beta, it's quite easy to see what this game could have been - an excellent arcade adventure... ...and there's another thing this game WOULD NOT have been: A good Gauntlet sequel. Gauntlet should not be about quests, clever ghosts and lots of backtracking, it was meant as a simple but addictive multiplayer-dungeon hack'n slay game with a fantasy theme. That's why many of the Gauntlets that came out later on on home consoles never reached the class of the original concept. Less is more.
I haven't played this game, but looking at those beautiful isometric graphics makes me dream of commodore games that never were.
Loved 1+2 but this not for me
Good graphics, coloured, well animated; nice music too but a boring, poor concept. Multiload game. For fans.
Looks like Diablo for the C64.

Me and my bro got this from some dude who was selling an old commy (we bought a lot of second hand commies, just for the games!) and I really liked this game. The graphics were excellent and the gameplay followed suit. Nice!
Ok, to put things into perspective, this game was never officially released. Only a few copies made it out of the development stage. So most definitely this is not a finished version and it shouldn't be judged as one.. Basically, it's Gauntlet set in isometric 3D graphics.. There are some beautiful backgrounds in there and overally the game is huge. Unfortunately, it has trillions of bugs but it's still playable. And like I said, it never made it into the shops..

Very impressive composition from Tim and Geoff Follin, as usual!!! Gauntlet 3 has very good graphics, but the game is not as good as I expected. 6/10
