|
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF MY HIGHEST SCORE?
yes you can, it goes like this:
CCS64: ( homepage)
- press ALT+F1 to save a 16 color bitmap, or
- press ALT+F2 to save a 256 color bitmap.
the screenshots are saved into your ccs64 directory, in both cases you better save the screenshots as a .GIF image, as it takes less space.
VICE: ( homepage)
- press ALT+C to save picture. (same here, save the picture as ".gif" or ".jpg", takes less space)
I'M NOT ABLE TO POST ANY SCREENSHOTS OVER HERE, WHAT'D I DO?
don't panic, there's always an option to send them towards my email address (below). once I got the screenshots, I'll post them as soon as possible. (ehm, please take notice that I'm extremely laaaaazy!)
I ENDED UP BEING THE *ONE-AND-ONLY* LEMON GAMES-CHAMPION!
wow! that'd be great, but apart from that, you do win zip, nada, nothing, riente, niks, niemendal... there's no prizes involved. but you will be honoured and obeyed as a true champion, make no mistake!
SO WHO WILL CHOOSE THE GAMES TO PLAY?
--> YOU! <-- the games are chosen by voting. Each games-voting will last for a week (first or second week of the month) and it's entirely up to you which games will be played in the future.
Please note that voting is only allowed for games not previously played, except during an open-round. Open rounds occur on the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th rounds of the season in which any game, even those previously played may be voted for.
HOW ARE VOTES CALCULATED?
Vote for 5 games. Votes for less than 5 games will not be counted. Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4pts, third 3pts, fourth 2pts, fifth 1pt. Votes are then tallied for each game, and the one with the most points will be the game played in the next round.
In the event of a tie, the game with the most 5 point votes with be played. If another tie exists, the games with the most 4 point votes with be played, and so on.
HOW LONG DOES A GAMES COMPETITION LAST?
one week of voting and three weeks of playing makes that each games-compo will last for exactly one month. some times we make an exception, but you will be notified if so.
WHEN DOES THIS COMPETITION COMES TO AN END?
perhaps never? the competition started january 2003 and will end december 2003. that makes 12 different games compos. all in order to find out who is the true Lemon Games champion of 2003. hopefully we can start all over again in 2004. but that's for later ofcourse.
HOW ARE THE SCORES CALCULATED?
Players scores are calculated as a combination of rank points and score points, each of which can be a maximum of 50 points.
50 rank points are awarded for 1st place, 40 for 2nd and then 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 12, 11 and 10 for the places from 3rd to 10th respectively. Those who placed lower than 10th get a 5 point 'thanks for participating' score.
A maximum of 50 score points proportional to the winners score (whether it be by points or progression) is then added to this. The formula is 50*(your_score/best_score).
The player with the best score would obviously therefore get 50 extra points giving him a total of 100 points for a round.
Example:
The winner scored 58.300 points. You came in 5th place and scored 43,800.
You get 25 rank points for finishing 5th. You then get an additional 50*(43,800/58,300) = 38 points for the score.
Points for the round are 25 (rank points) + 38 (score points) = 63 round points.
NOTE:
The scoring system for multi-sports events is calculated differently.
In those cases, players only receive rank points for individual events as per the 50, 40, 35, etc system mentioned above. All players below 10th place in an event receive 5 rank points regardless of position.
Maximum score will therefore be 50 rank points * number of events. The winners score is used to calculate the points for that round. The formula is 100*(your_score/best_score). This is done to scale down everybody's points by whatever percentage is required to give the winner of the round 100 points.
++
hereby I want to thank the people at the Llamasoft-forum for a lot of good advice and plenty of inspiration, you rule!
still have questions? feel free to post them here.
in the meantime, game on party people!

How are the points calculated? I don't know where to find information about that anymore. |

Judging by this months results/scores, I'd say it's the percentage of each score compared to the top score, ie your score (172,890) is 48% of Shteev's 361,950. |

I don't know if my score-calculator I wrote for the first season is still being used?
<edit>shteev: yes it is!</edit>
But if it is, the scoring works like this:
50 points is awarded for first place, 40 for second and then 35,30,25,20,15,12,11 and finally 10 points for 10th place.
Those who placed lower than 10th gets a 5 point 'thanks for participating'-score.
In addition to that, a maximum of 50 points proportional to the winner score is added. The player with the best score ofcourse gets 50 extra points giving him a total of 100. The forumla is 50*(your_score/best_score)
An example.
The winner scored 58.300 points. You came in 5th place and scored 43.800.
You then get 25 points for the place. Then you get an additional 50*(43.800/58.300) = 38 points for the score. Total 25+38 = 63 points.
This may seem complicated, but I think it gives a reasonably fair scoring system (which I also managed to convince people of in a big debate during the first season! ) |

Thanks for explaining it once again SDW. The score in the Iridis Alpha thread are not correct then. I should get 40 points for coming in with 2nd place + 50*(myscore/shteev's score) and that is alot more than some meager 8 points. This applies to everyone else, too. |

Is a real C64 allowed as well? Providing you have a capture device for the screenshot, of course. |

I've decided what I'm going to do about draws in the future, to ensure that a second vote is never required.
1) If multiple games tie, then the game which is voted for by the most players wins.
<edit>Rule 2 no longer applies
2) If games are still tied, then the game with the lowest variance in voting values will win. For example, if game A is voted 5pts, 3pts, and 1pt, and game B is voted 3pts, 3pts, and 3pts, game B will be the winner. Variance is calculated thusly.
3) If games are STILL tied, then the first of the tied games which receives a nomination in the voting thread, chronologically, will win. If the first player to nominate any of the tied games nominates more than one, then the game which that player gives the higher vote to will win. _________________ Hey, you. Dumbass. We've had a short discussion about this here before, in this thread:
http://www.lemon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10711
Current rules are that is IS legal to use savestates when practicing.
Don't forget that some players may have been playing a game for years, while others may come to it fresh when a round of the competition starts. Allowing the use of trainers or cheats for practice games helps level the playfield a little.
Plus, it can help give players who may be having trouble in certain areas a more interesting and varied game session. There's nothing worse than having to replay, over and over, the same boring levels for days just so you can have 3 or 4 six second attempts at killing some near-invincible bad guy on level 13.
For scores which are submitted to the competition, obviously, savestates are NOT allowed. I might make a SLIGHT exception to this, say, if your house burns down in the middle of a game; but even in that extreme case, you are NOT allowed to restart from a savestate more than once, and you should ask in the thread if you can do even that. _________________ Hey, you. A quick note about game controllers; Autofire is allowed, as is mapping keyboard controls to multiple buttons on a game controller. _________________ Hey, you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Cosy in there? |

Is there an easy way to find out which games have been played in the past? (for non-open-round voting) |
