One question, what emulator do you like more CCS64 2.0 beta or VICE?
I like very much CCS64 but sometimes the games don´t work. I try and there are games what don´t load. I hate what it happens. |

One thing I've noticed with Vice, why no 80 column mode for C128?
I want to put it into 80 column display but can find no option to set it as such. _________________ Game on |

What's this Catweasel MK3 SID emulation? I cannot notice much difference between it and reSID. _________________ Regards,

Well that didn't help, the manual has nothing about how to actually get it into 80 column mode, just mentions it's available.
It was from the command line options window in the emulator itself where I found how to access it. _________________

It's a PCI card for your PC that (besides some other things) has a sound chip like the SID. Google for catweasel MK3 to get more infos.

That is easy. When you open VICE 128 you get two windows, one for 40-column display and one for 80-column display (the black window is for 80-column display). Just use F1 followed by X to switch between the two modes/windows (F1 corresponds to Esc on a C128). The F7 key corresponds to the 40/80 column key so press that to toggle whether the emulator should use 40-column or 80-column display after a reset/start-up.

I saw that there is TFE (The Final Ethernet) emulation. This sounds very interesting. Does it mean that if I have an Internet connection open and use for example Contiki in the C64 emulator, I would be able to browse and read e-mail from inside the emulator?

Hello.
I already posted this in comp.emulators.cbm newsgroup. Here's the snippet:
Hello.
I downloaded the Windows version. ('m using Windows 98.) x64 worked as advertised and 1351 mouse emulation works great. I was able to boot and run Wheels 64 (GEOS 64 upgrade) w/o any problem.
I can't say the same for x128, though. x128's VDC emulation is finally fixed and works fine in NTSC mode. I had previous problems using the VDC screen when I set my x128 machine to NTSC. But, when I tried to load Wheels 128 (GEOS 128 upgrade), it would load a 3-block 'booter' program and in turn, this booter program will fail to load in the rest of the GEOS system, dropping to a cursor prompt. I'm using the 1581 drive as devices #8 and #9. I wonder if the following is the culprit?
> - Implemented fast IEC bus.
Additionally, I wasn't able to turn off TFE emulation from the menu.
Vice is improving and it is truly a great endeavor involving our classic hobbyist computer platform. Hopefully this would be a minor bug and that it can be easily fixed. I'll be looking forward to using the next version of x128 and use my favorite GUI, Wheels 128. Thanks for all the work you've done so far, I appreciate it!
Enjoy. _________________ -Todd Elliott |

Damn, I have actually never tried VICE before...very impressive
So far, I prefer it to CCS, I especially like the small window that displays what`s on the disk _________________ Marius |

I have been hoping for a while (even emailed the VICE dev team) for someone to add Scale2x to a c64 emulator. Most other platforms emulated have this (8bit ones anyway) and I have manually applied it to a few screenshots, and it looks good.
Oh well more hoping and nagging to do |

I also prefer CCS, because I had these CPU Jam errors at VICE and the Warp Mode causes some crashes...
But CCS doesn't emulate Frankie goes to Hollywood |

Frankie Goes To Hollywood works fine in C64s. An out of date emulator what you can download it of Dohi´s site.
In Vice, I haven´t it tried. In C64s the game works all the time without errors. And the sound is practically perfect. I don´t kow but that game in CCS64 has bad the music. I don´t hear it simmilar to a real C64.
Bye. |

Scaling2x is called "Double Size" in the Vice-Options-Menu.

Funny, in any case this is a demo and it will only run TEN MINUTES
It's still for sale.
If you want to enjoy C64s, you have to BUY it.

That was either a poor joke or ignorance
I invite you to peruse the scale2x page. |

Marticus - That would be good to see in WinVICE. How CPU intensive is this graphics processing mode? _________________ Regards,

Whoa!
Thanks for opening my eyes, man. That feature would look great on VICE x64 and x128 as it recreates closely the true C64 feel. On a monitor, most pixels would blur and artifact. They are nowhere near as crisp as on an emulator screen.
Enjoy. _________________

I did that before and nothing came of it, maybe you'll have better luck. It's in many emulators now, arcade, snes, gba, even scummvm uses it
I grabbed the source and am seeing if i can hack together something but my C++ is bad, pointers make me cringe
Edit: I don't think it is very CPU intensive, it's a simple boolean operation from what I can tell, and there is MMX code example in the source at contrib/visualc/scale2x.cpp
Obviously it takes more CPU than a simple size doubling but not as much as the 2xSAI, SuperEagle and Biliniear filters I'd imagine. |

I thought that the emulator that can dowloading of Dohi´s site is complete. But not. I have it without restrictions. But the 2.0 version. There the game works. I can mail you the emulator if you want. |
