*bleep* yeah it's round 8 already!

another classic chosen by the masses; it's
ghosts 'n' goblins this time.

the rules:

Arrow games compo starts now and will end sunday 31st of august 2003 24h00 PM (GMT)
Arrow download ghosts 'n goblins here, (release 010) it's the REMEMBER version.
Arrow post screenshots with your highest score in this thread.
Arrow don't cheat! (be fair alright?)
Arrow check out THE BURROW, now Cool
Arrow read the full review in zzap! 64, issue 17, pages 18, 19 and 20.
Arrow check this page for more stuff (arcade) on both ghosts 'n' goblins and ghouls 'n' ghosts

short FAQ:
Question how do I take a screenshot of my highest score? (ccs64)
Arrow when you achieved a score which is worth being mentioned, there's two options:
- press ALT+F1 to save a 16 color bitmap, or
- press ALT+F2 to save a 256 color bitmap.
the screenshots are saved into your ccs64 directory, in both cases you better save the screenshots as a .GIF image, as it takes less space.

Question I'm not able to post any screenshots over here, what'd I do?
Arrow don't panic, there's always an option to send them towards my email address (below). once I got the screenshots, I'll post them as soon as possible.

Question Okay, I ended up being the true Lemon games-champion, what do I win?
Arrow well, nothing, zip, nada. but you will be threated as a champion, make no mistake!

Question Who will choose the games we play?
Arrow you! the games are chosen by voting. each games-voting will last for a week (first or second week of the month) and it's entirely up to you which games will be played in the future.

Question How long does one specific games-compo last?
Arrow one week of voting and three weeks of playing makes that each games-compo will last for exactly one month.

Question How long does the entire competition last?
Arrow the competition started january 2003 and will end december 2003. that makes 12 different games compos. all in order to find out who is the true Lemon Games champion of 2003. hopefully we can start all over again in 2004. but that's for later ofcourse.

hereby I want to thank the people at the Llamasoft-forum for a lot of good advice and plenty of inspiration, you rule!

game on!

>> ok, sorry about this but how do you post screenshots?

You will need to upload your image somewhere. Either with webspace your ISP gave you, or using one of the free web hosts (note that some free web hosts don't allow hot linking.)

Use the image tags like this:
[img]http://www.dfpuffhost.com/myhiscore.gif[/img]

(I have of course used djpuffhost.com as an example only Very Happy )

PS: Got your new Avatar now I see!

Pfff, 13300 points is in 1st attempt. (stage 2 also)
I better play original coz then he'll jump better I guess.
I used to be playing this game alot years ago.
The trick is to wait for the knife coz that is the fastest weapon.

From the start of the compo i've just made about 15 games, only one time came across the dagger!
It was in a middle of a platform, and i was dead before reach it.
Before die i fall from a rock and sit my butt on a flame

Here you go, here's something to aim for:

69200
Completed 3 times
You'll be pleased to know you get an extra life at 50,000 points.

As for those weapons, there's not much in it really; the lance and knife are both pretty good. Personally I prefer the lance, simply because you start with it. Shooting zombies is pretty dangerous! The speed of the weapon is not so important as timing your shots in certain bits, so it's best probably to just like one weapon and stick with it. The torch is worthless, tho its good on the arcade version. The axe, on the other hand, is so bad in the arcades that I've not even bothered to see what its like on the C64 Smile

There's a useful feature/bug somewhere which feels too much like cheating for my liking, but it's in the original so what the hell, eh? No, it's not the one on level 4 where the game stops suddenly halfway through the level and tells you you've rescued the princess. I'll tell you what it is when I get back from visiting me parents next week.

As I'm not in first I'll post screenshots towards the end of the competition.

It's quite interesting to see peoples different taste in colour pallettes with some people also using the PAL filter.
