man, this game sucks! I don't see anyone playing it for hours/days/weeks. read the docs, now it's somewhat better, but it's still
pretty boring, I think. guess I'll pass this round _________________ |

As usual, it's just a matter of tastes. I thought this was just an entertaining little game, but now that I'm starting to play it "seriously", I think I've discovered a true gem!
I don't think it's the best C64 game ever, but nonetheless, it's a very well designed and addictive little bugger!
Still, my scores suck... _________________

I've never heard of Paradroid until the compo voting. (I guess I need to delete it within 24hours, hehe). I've never played it before. I kind of like it though. Sort of reminds me of Project Firestart (a little). But yeah, it seems you can play a long time and just get killed all of a sudden.
I'm only up to about 2000 right now (everybody's score is safe from me) but it seems pretty fun.
Maybe one day I'll get the hang of taking over other bots. For now I think I'd better stick with the gunslinger method. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

my first attempt net me 50 points  maybe I should give it a few more shots. I'm usually bored at school anyway. completed fire ant a few minutes ago (using the snapshot function of course) and now I'm looking for something to play. too bad there are no speakers attached to these computers here. _________________ |

Agree. I won't pass but I don't know how much impact I will have with around 3,500 points and the computer rubs it in by saying Lowest Score of the Day.
To everyone else: So those twirly looking things and colourfull circles are energizer fields. How exactly does one energise. Too lazy to read the docs meself. |

Just park your bot on it and your score will decrease. I'm assuming your energy increases too but there's no meter. At least it will stop the flashing.
Also if a 7xx is shooting you, you will explode. Not cool at all. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

There *IS* an energy indicator: it is shown by how fast your droid "rotates". The slower it goes, the lower the energy left.
Also, keep in mind that the energizer replenishes only energy depleted by a shot or collision, not the natural decay (i.e. the Influence device can control a droid for just a limited amount of time, which is shorter if you take a high class droid and vice versa).
This is a game that is totally pointless if you take it as a pickupandplay. You really need to read those docs and give it some time. I think it well deserves it: it's one of the most hailed games around, so there can't be so many people all wrong, can they? As I said before, perhaps it won't make it in my top 20, but I'm enjoying this challenge a lot and I think that if you think that it was made in 1985, it's just amazing. _________________

Hey, I gave it the highest praise I can give a video game. I compared it to PFS. I am new to it but it still seems tough.
I'm afraid I may not have time to learn it before the compo is over but at least I won't hate this one.
Oh, and are you saying that even if I don't get hit the influence droid will just blow up on it's own? Also, I guess that even if you have just recharged your hijacked bot, if the time runs out you lose that bot and your points that you spent recharging it? That doesn't seem fair. I would have liked to see a timer or something to let me know not to bother recharging a deing bot.
I do need to play more, lot's more. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

Never noticed that, wow...
Some more info on the energy issue: Your droid has a certain energy potential that limits the amount of actual energy. This potential decreases with time (the higher the droid class, the faster). It is not affected by energizers or damaging events. If you take over a droid and then keep out of trouble, you will lose (and finally run out of) energy only because of your decreasing energy potential. You therefore have to take over another droid from time to time in order to reset the potential.
If you get hit by lasers or a disrupter, run into an explosion, or bump into another bot, your energy will drop below the energy potential (but only for a certain time, as the potential decreases). Energizers can fill up the resulting gap between actual energy and energy potential.
Check out the super-scientific diagram I drew!

All I can hope for is that there are enough people equally inept at this game as I am. I'm aiming for the 'highest of the low'...... |

Hey, I'm starting to be really good at Paradroid (at least if you think I'm quite new to it):
49,485 (third ship).
http://spazioinwind.libero.it/...id-hi4.gif
The most important things, imo, are to choose the right order in which to clear the decks, to take as few risks as possible, and to learn well the ship's layout (lifts above all), enemy locations and characteristics.
@jt-3d I know you weren't badmouthing this great game, the last part of my previous message was general, not aimed at you
@Antares: here it's quite hot too, but not as much as there: I remember when I went to Andalucia in July some years ago: it was all wonderful, but there were 42°C! _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

Has the compo ever done Outrun? I think that'd be a terrific game because there's not that much to badmouth And, the music is quite impressive to boot! |

As long as tips are being given out, I think I need some help... What do I do when the first ship is cleared of droids? I get to a point where I've destroyed everything I can find, and the lights are out on every floor I can access. There's nothing I can do but wander around, eventually running out of power. Is there something I have to do to get to the next ship? Or is there a hidden deck I may have missed?
Anyway, new score: 13395.

There's nothing hidden.. When you've destroyed the last droid, you automatically advance to the second ship. I almost cleared that one. All the tough decks were cleared, but a 476 nailed me in the end..
My new score is 44010 and I feel quite positive I can at least reach the third ship. |

Made a new highscore after being destroyed by a 751 (my favorite robot, they look so menacing!) on the shuttle bay deck of the third ship: 59535.
Was a fun game, on the first ship i managed to have red alarm for a long time. On the second ship there was no 999 robot on the bridge but three 711s which i used to clear all decks on the right side of the ship including the hard maintenance deck. Things got a bit tough on the cargo decks but eventually i made it to the third ship for the very first time with a 711. At one point i transferred to a 821 robot with the 001 influence device
Also want to add that i love this game
Queen Frostine: I am sure you just forgot a deck. Sometimes i forget the observation deck on top of the ship or the vehicle deck which can be only accessed through one lift which i avoid to use as it it dangerous getting out of it on the other two cargo decks.

Maybe that's it, but I was sure I'd got them all. Well, I'll keep trying.
On favourite droids - for design, I like the 296 Servant Robot. For playing the game, I like to be the 302 Messenger Robot, it's quick enough to get out of anything. _________________
