|
|
could somebody of the mods sticky this topic please? thanks again!
are you up for some gaming again?
well, here we go again with round 5 of the Lemon games compo:
DAVID'S MIDNIGHT MAGIC
- the classic pinball game! -
rules are simple:
games compo starts now and will end sunday 1st of june 2003 24h00 PM (GMT)
download David's Midnight Magic here, (release 255) it's the REMEMBER version.
post screenshots with your highest score in this thread.
 don't cheat! (be fair alright?)
this compo got mentioned at THE SCORELORD pages aswell! thanks Gordon, thanks Boçù!
short FAQ:
how do I take a screenshot of my highest score? (ccs64)
when you achieved a score which is worth being mentioned, there's two options:
- press ALT+F1 to save a 16 color bitmap, or
- press ALT+F2 to save a 256 color bitmap.
the screenshots are saved into your ccs64 directory, in both cases you better save the screenshots as a .GIF image, as it takes less space.
I'm not able to post any screenshots over here, what'd I do?
don't panic, there's always an option to send them towards my email address (below). once I got the screenshots, I'll post them as soon as possible.
Okay, I ended up being the true Lemon games-champion, what do I win?
well, nothing, zip, nada. but you will be threated as a champion, make no mistake!
Who will choose the games we play?
you! the games are chosen by voting. each games-voting will last for a week (first or second week of the month) and it's entirely up to you which games will be played in the future.
How long does one specific games-compo last?
one week of voting and three weeks of playing makes that each games-compo will last for exactly one month.
How long does the entire competition last?
the competition started january 2003 and will end december 2003. that makes 12 different games compos. all in order to find out who is the true Lemon Games champion of 2003. hopefully we can start all over again in 2004. but that's for later ofcourse.
hereby I want to thank the people at the Llamasoft-forum for a lot of good advice and plenty of inspiration, you rule!

Everything that says 'JES' is my girlfriend, I'm 'STR'
So my best: 510,480 |

OK, I need to know, can I play the original version on a real 64. I have the origianl but I'm not equiped to transfer a d64. Surely, the original must be allowed? _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

In the previous compo's it's always been an advice to play with a certain version, like the L+T version of Buggy Boy since it allowed for 100K+ scores. It was never against the rules though to play with another version. |

like SHOCKTROOPER already told, it's definitely not against the rules to use any other version, as long as you don't cheat playing on tha original machine still rocks any emulator isn't it?
so, if you're not able to post any screenshots, that's okay, I just need you to be honest that's it.

Well, what I have is an original disk. Not hacked or anything. I had wanted to play the original on the 64 at home. I'd have to use an emu at work but I have a digicam for screenies at home, that's not a problem. I guess I'll just see what happens. I've already got around 225,000 but the save is at work hehe.
Let the games begin. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

What happens if you reach 999,999 points in David's Midnight Magic? Is it able to display higher scores at all? Because there are only six digits on the screen and i have never seen more than ~500k points so far. Anyway, i am sure we will see some gazillion points highscores soon from the people who played this game for the past 16 or so years
Actually it is a nice game, i played it a lot back in the days but i had hoped for something fresher for this competition. It was such a relief to play a round of Armalyte after three weeks fo Wizard of Wor Well bette rluck next time.
I hope i won't loose interest in it too soon. There are so many frustrating angles in this game where you lose a ball and you can do absolutely nothing against it. |

If you are playing on an emulator try the ctrl key for the left flipper. On the real thing it was left and right shift iirc.
Hard to believe that there are actually people who have never pleayed David's Midnight Magic. I always thought it is one of the classics everyone knows (not loves...). |

don't know when was the last time I played this, but I'm sure my high score is better than this: 170,800 after half an hour of play. no screenshot yet, it'll be better hopefully
now to go and practice some more! school's cool _________________ |

Yeah, I'm about 170,000 too. I did 225,000 at work but that's not the official version. I can't take any more of it now anyway. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

If I remember right highscores higher than 999'999 are possible and shown correctly in the Highscore-list. |
I do hope so, that saves us from a lot of troubles right? _________________

Well, I scored 999,999 points but I woke up soon thereafter realizing that the 23,000 that I got with my initial test runs will not get me far in this compo. ))
First impressions are that it is a good game although the ball physics are not exactly accurate. |

hehe, Nice thunderer. Actually, speaking of ball physics, I saw the ball last night went from the bottom to the top section and actually wrapped around the end of the left upper flipper and take off on to the left. Well, it's hard to describe but it was odd looking. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

Bah! Video pinball games are hardly ever good, you need more luck than skill to do well it seems. I've never played this before the compo and I really don't know how it was the number 1 pick, but I'll give it a shot. I've got about 170,000 so far, I suppose I should take a screenshot. _________________ |

The first real kick at it got me 335,850.
The TILT annoys the hell out of me though. I never played a real pinball machine that tilted so much just hitting the flippers. The game isn't that hard, it's just a matter of getting used to the 'hit the key-wait for the flipper delay'.... |
