|
|
hey peeps, here we go again! round two of the Lemon games compo.
rules are simple:
--> games compo starts now as we speak and ends thursday 6th of march 2003
--> download Rodland from here: http://web.externet.hu/sk/c64/games/r/rodland.zip
(source: the Magyar c64 hq, it's the Legend version)
--> post screenshots with your highest score in this thread.
--> don't cheat! (be fair alright?)
short FAQ:
1. how do I take a screenshot of my highest score? (ccs64)
--> when you achieved a score which is worth being mentioned , there's two options:
- press ALT+F1 to save a 16 color bitmap, or
- press ALT+F2 to save a 256 color bitmap.
the screenshots are saved into your ccs64 directory.
2. I'm not able to post any screenshots over here, what'd I do?
--> don't panic, there's always an option to send them towards my email address (below). once I got the screenshots, I'll post them as soon as possible.
3. Okay, I ended up being the true Lemon games-champion, what do I win?
--> well, nothing, zip, nada. but you will be threated as a champion, make no mistake!
4. Who will choose the games we play?
--> you! the games are chosen by voting. the games-voting will last a week (first week of the month) and it's entirely up to you which games will be played in the future.
5. How long does one specific games-compo last?
--> one week of voting and three weeks of playing makes that each games-compo will last for exactly one month.
6. How long does the entire competition last?
--> the competition started junauary 2003 and will end december 2003. that makes 12 different games compos. all in order to find out who is the true Lemon Games champion of 2003. hopefully we can start all over again in 2004. but that's for later.
EDIT: hereby I want to thank the people at the Llamasoft-forum (http://www.llamasoft.co.uk/forum) for a lot of good advice and plenty of inspiration, you rule!
(more FAQ's are coming up later)
'till now, game on lads!

AFAIK the Legend/NEI version tends to crash on the high score table when you reach the final level (the one where you fight the demon, I guess it's 32), after you die. So try and take your screen grab before this happens... _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

Well, it's becoming apparent to me that I am shite at cutesy platformers. Mind, I haven't played RodLand much at all, but it looks like I've got a lot of practising to do before I can post a score approaching respectable. |

I got over 131,000. This is only after a couple of tries and nowhere near as good as Robert's score. I hope to challenge Robert soon, in the meanwhile back to the practice room for me.
BTW I've only played this game a couple of times in my life and it takes a great Compo like this to really appreciate it and to realise how good it actually is. All compliments to Matt for organising it.
@Matt, I hope to see a score from you this time around. |

I have a problem with this compo: I totally fell in love with Heavy Metal Paradroid and Morpheus and I always want to play those (with some goes at Uridium+ as well: if everybody says it's so good there must be a reason...)
Thankfully the deadline is quite far and I'm quite good at RodLand...
We'll see. _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

Well, it's a start, albeit a very lame start!
I will try harder next time! One thing I noticed though (and I realised I'd never played the C64 Roldland before), is that the controls are slightly different from what I remember on the Amiga. I'm sure you held down fire and moved the stick left and right to smash the baddies on the Amiga, and on this version it's just button bashing. I think it's almost as entertaining, but the controls have sort of threw me a bit!
Another try, coming up! _________________ Om.

No FunkScientist, I think the Amiga version had the same button bashing control method. Been a long time since I played it though.
I've been playing the C64 version a bit but I'm not posting a score up yet, as I am improving with every game. |

I got to the final level on one of my first attempts, and then I encountered that high score table crash...
Anyway, the best score I've been able to record so far is 249,050. |
