Im not a big adventure fan but this one was great - like a 'type in' but with moving graphics/characters on the screen above the text. spent hours on this one - even got a new c64 recently just so i could play it (old keyboard was crap!) |
I remember Valhalla... it was a strange little game, came with a nice box. I do remember typing in commands and the little stick men characters would move. _________________

Polar Pierre
This was among the very first games I ever got on my C64. Although I've somehow lost my original, I remember PP as an amusing platform. It also featured the chance to build your own levels. Loved it!
Pirates (not the Sid Meier classic...)
I recognize this one as cool, simple 2-player action. There was this giant net made out of rope, on which the pirates were clashing the crew of some merchantman... It was of great fun. A shame I couldn't find that one on Lemon. Anyone?
Grand Monster Slam
Came out with a nice poster of the starting scene. Very, very nice music from Chris Hülsbeck, and great gameplay. Pretty hard, though. A classic. |

One thing I'm surprised about is that almost nobody here mentions Cybernoid and Cybernoid 2. Two excellent games really, especially the second one, with brilliant aurals and visuals and quite original gameplay (a flickscreen sh'm'up...). OK a bit tricky to play, but brilliant.
Any fans here? _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Rainbow Islands, 3.Delta, 4.Bionic Commando, 5.Armalyte, 6.Creatures II, 7.Bubble Bobble, 8.Ikari Warriors, 9.IK+, 10.Archon. |

Raffaele Cecco, the same author of Stormlord and Deliverance (two other hard games)
EDIT: just forgot to mention. Cecco is the programmer, of course. The musician is Jeroen Tel (no surprise you like it ) _________________

and Jereon Tel did the music for both c64 Cybernoid games, cool tunes!
I love SWAP, a puzzle game released in the early 90's.. Never mentioned, bought it for AUS$9 from Maxwells, the last remaining c64 stockist that I knew of in Melbourne at the time. Still have the game in mint condition, I used to play it all the time! _________________ |

Actually, Raffaele programmed the SPECTRUM version of both games. NICK JONES was the guy who converted them. _________________

I've always thought Cecco was behind the C64 version too. Thanx for the info. _________________

Nick also did Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and SMASH TV (what a cool conversion that is - sadly his last C64 game). _________________

A few faves I haven't seen much discussions of:
Realm of Impossibility
Nifty little isometric maze-type game (2 players too, great fun)
Cave of Time
Loved the music, but the random scenes were annoying... never actually completed it either
Pharoah's Curse
Must have been mentioned somewhere, a classic platformer. Damn that flying fiend.
and Anarchy
Cross between Space Invaders and Pacmac (sorta), a well-judged time limit made for a tense game.
Sorry if these aren't classified as not-talked-about games, I've still got a lot of posts to read yet _________________ |

I remember that game.. I beat it easily enough, though the parser was awkward. Still a nice, atmospheric little gem. _________________

I'll second that vote! never played it in the early 90's, but read a couple o reviews and wished I could get it. Found a .d64 of it a few months back after digging up the Zzap64 review. It really is a neat little puzzler! |

I remember one original production. Adult xxx type programs are not really my style. But this one was the most original. In this program you are supposed to help a lady to satisfy herself. To do this, you lick your finger tips first (so it can be conductive) then you start playing with Joystick port 1. And you see the result. Feeling and the originality is really exciting, but don't get too excited and go further
BTW I still don't know how that computer and that joystik port still work after that short circuit. _________________ Dear cold,

Shorting a port with your finger like that is no different to using a joystick - all a joystick does is short one of the 5 pins (U, D, L, R, F) to the ground pin. |

The thing is, there is a +5v if I remember right, and that could cause serious problems. I repaired a joystick once and the pins shorted in a way that whenever I make left the power led goes off (and screen too)
I was wondering if it's possible to "cut off" the way of some of these lines with using POKEs? _________________

Actually, there is 5 +5V - One for each direction and fire. When you push a direction, it shorts the +5V through to ground. |

Absolutely cracking budget Side Arms clone (much better than Side Arms). A choice of starting levels, lots of different weapons and tough but interesting gameplay makes this a very good shoot 'em up that I never see anybody mention. Almost got in my top 5 vote for the games competition. |

Another game that is rarely talked about is Ultimate Wizard
Really cool old fashioned platformer, simple but lovely graphics and sound FX, great variety of enemies and spells you can cast, 100 different levels to go through (AFAIK).
Never played it before 2002, and I love it. Very nice.
Chris Butler's Ninja Spirit conversion is rarely mentioned too. Hard and frustrating in places but very playable, nice animation, very good Martin Walker's soundtrack. Four different weapons to use.
Finally, Batman-The Caped Crusader. Great atmosphere, fantastic comic stip-style system, moody and wonderful Fred Gray's soundtrack, two different plots to play. It's not flawless, as the beat'em up part is a bit annoying and some puzzles are not very logical, but it's one of my absolute favourite arcade adventures.
The latter two games are hardly obscure, but I don't see 'em remembered very often. _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Rainbow Islands, 3.Delta, 4.Bionic Commando, 5.Armalyte, 6.Creatures II, 7.Bubble Bobble, 8.Ikari Warriors, 9.IK+, 10.Archon. |

I really like Spooked, an obscure, weird game by Players Premier. It has a really strange, almost eerie atmosphere. _________________ Oberon a.k.a. Nada

I have never heard people talk about a game called Co and Co.
It's a two player game where you have to get a piece of ladder, rope or pole to climb your way to the top.
The main enemy's are small bats and it makes an anoying sound when you climb up a ladder.
I'm afraid that those crackheads have changed the title of the game
Can you guys confirm this??? _________________ I can wake up in the middle of the night and start searching for a three-headed monkey. (Sir Kidd) |
