Well you know it has to be really, the other thread is quite negative naturally but sometimes something really great happens, or just some amazing fluke of luck occurs and it makes you smile Very Happy

Well today, after years of searching both on ebay, and in many many boxes in my house too because I swear I never sold it, I have finally found an original A1000 parallel port compatible Digi-View digitiser. Fark me that was one long journey, but I am really happy. Now I can actually mess about with cameras and Digi-View all over again just as I did in my teenage careless youth. *bliss*

All I need to find now is a pair of Amiga 2000 motherboards for peanuts/free and I will be in Heaven Laughing

My fiancée is about to get work promotion, hopefully with a decent payrise. Will know more on the 20th August Smile

She really needs it as there is a minimum poverty level in her earnings for her to sponsor my move to the USA, as I won't be able to work out there until I get my adjustment of status (green card). Fingers crossed that the pay-rise will be enough.

Sixteen, if you marry her, do you still need to have a green card? My wife is a US citizen and I understand that entitles me to work there.

From what I understand at least with relation to the UK and I'm guessing it's not too different with Australia, you will first need to file a K3-Visa application before you can move to the USA which is a lot of work. You will still need to apply for AOS "adjustment of status" once you're living in the USA which is basically the green card to work.

But another catch might be is that married or not, even before you even apply for K3 to move out there, you may first still also need to be sponsored before you can reside there, and if your wife (the sponsor) falls below the poverty earning guidelines on her gross income which comes under "Affidavit of Support" then you'll need a co-sponsor to enter for residence in the USA, married or not. The reason being is so you don't become a dependent burden on the welfare state. This is at least true for me in the UK. It's a problem we're currently facing even though my fiancée feels she earns enough to support me before I'm allowed to look for work, and we're not even married yet. That's why I have my fingers crossed that she'll get a decent enough payrise.

There's a lot more to just that for me, and maybe for you. Your best bet is to seek a good attorney that specialises in these things as I'm not entirely sure about Australia to USA but I'm sure it's not too much different, but this costs a lot of money, many people choose to research and do these things themselves but it's a complicated process. One mistake can lead to a visa refusal and the worst case scenario is upto a 10 year ban from entering the USA if you go there on the wrong visa whether you're married or not.

Don't take my word as gospel though, it might be slightly easier for you but I don't think you can just move out there, let alone work, I know I can't even if we're married Sad

Sorry I don't have the answer you were hoping for (free world my eye). Have you tried google yet? You might have better luck finding the answers for Aus-to-USA than me, I couldn't find much on that myself, maybe it's that search engines are more localised to each country.

As far as I'm concerned, you brits can come over willy nilly. Just let me have your bowler hats, country estates, cool cars, under powered crap wagons, built to cope with your tiny roads, but still cool and we'll call it a fair swap. Smile

No, really, I've had it with this shithole we call a country. I'm sick of eveybody hating me. I'm sick of the farce we call elections. I'm sick of lowlife scumbags getting rich beyond anything they could possibly ever spend while good people live from paycheck to paycheck. I'm sick of a lot of things here. I'm ready to chuck the lot for twenty or so years wandering around the the english countrysides, looking at Roman ruins and whatnot.

The grass is always greener etc.

Still, it's cute that the UK bunch loves to slag off the US but then come over here to work and live. You folks really need to get your story straight. i love turning on one of those all day all night news shows and hearing a brit telling us what is happening in our country. She/he is probably making more in one year than I will make in 10. Bah, maybe I can make a boat out of my 21 year old car and sail off the Britain.

Oh, right happy. Smile There ya go.

Get our story straight??? Do you think every Brit has - or should have - an identical opinion of the US or something? You think some random Brit appearing on your TV represents all Brits?

Generalising much, I suppose you think we all have bad teeth and speak cockney too? Fine where I am thanks, and I've never owned a bowler hat. BTW please can we send back David Hasslehoff Smile

True - defo a minority I feel who bash the US - same minority who seem to put their name to the usual 'causes', Palastine and the usual anti-Israel sentiment.

Trust me, they do speak for the majority. Just a very loud minority - average Joe in the street has the same populist opnions as most people, but populist opnions seem to be looked down on by the 'Guardianista's' who label anyone who disagrees with them as some right wing loon.

Personally I love the States. No country is perfect, but I have been with my parents about 14 times to Florida, enjoyed holidays to Vegas with my pals, visited New York and Los Angeles with my girlfriend and am going to Orlando again November.

I wear a baseball cap and I ain't rich, I live in a rented tiny apartment block in a dreary midland town. I also don't speak with a silver spoon up my arse

And why on earth would I leave my entire family to marry an american lass and move to the USA if you feel I dislike the people and country so much, where have I ever hinted this? Makes no sense

Hey I like American salt of the earth good people, just don't like the Zyonist Illuminati bastards forcing us all on a course for world war 3 to line their platinum and diamond plated properties. Good people are where you find them, be it UK, USA or even Iran, doesn't matter Very Happy

What you describe about the government and the super rich having it easy to become even richer off the back of millions of employees on minimum wage is true of this country too (and I'm sure of many more democratic western countries). We do have a minimum wage here, about £6.50-7.00 but all that happened when it was introduced was people working night shift or weekends and evenings were forced to work for the same £6.50 an hour...for working 12am to 8am?!?!?!? Evil or Very Mad

PS America has some very cool cars too from the past, just like the UK. At least you also have new model Mustangs and Cameros....all we have is GM/Ford/French family cars with bigger alloy wheels, louder stereos and a spoiler and it miraculously becomes 'sporty' and costs £10,000 more LOL whatever!

Oh and let's keep it upbeat, some of this stuff should be in 'what pisses you off?' Wink

Wow, I was slagging the US not Brits and I was kidding about the bowler hats thing. That's the strereotypical opinion us USians are supposed to have, according to shows like Top Gear. Sort of a reverse...oh forget it.

Sorry I was on here with a snootful again and attempted a bit of humor or humour if you prefer. I fail at humor sometimes.

But the US hating vocal minority is very vocal ... and on another site. Sorry.

Well, it was yesterday.

My sister brought her teenage daughter, my cousin and her husband with their 3yr old son around. My sisters 4yr old son was here too.

I had my C64 setup but I had to put the TV on a children's channel for the babs whilst us mostly adults were chatting (and whilst I was missing the olympics) Sad

So, while that was on, I got the young lads addicted to Katakis on Vice, cheats permitting Very Happy
