A rock hard game in my experience. I could never get far. Give me Slap Fight over it everytime.

Might have to give it another bash though, must have been about 20 years since I last played it.

Can't complete it. It just loops forever... but you have to be good to beat all three bosses!

You won't even get a shot at third boss without all the bits of your ship on.

Great game. First time I head the Ocean Loader on this game and it blew me away with what music the C64 could produce.

Anyone know if it is harder than the arcade version or that's just how it is anyway?

I honestly don't know how anyone could say Terra Cresta is too hard, and then say "give me Slap Fight every time"! Slap Fight is absolutely rock hard as soon as you die and lose weapons!

I loved Terra Cresta in the arcades, and I actually thought it was a really good conversion. I played it a lot... it's no more frustrating than the arcade version really, but it is vitally important to try and get all your firepower.

I get much further in Slap Fight, still not an easy game but easier. Also they kept in the arcade cheat at the beginning of the game. Go a certain distance without firing, lose a life and get pushed further up into the game with full weaponry.

My claim to fame is that I managed to complete Terra Force in the arcade on one credit, and one life.

It was hard as hell.

Terra Force actually had an ending.

The problem with Terra Force (and Terra Cresta, and Slap Fight actually), was that if you died, you lost all your weapons. If you were any good at the game and were a good way into it when it started to get hard, once you made a fatal mistake, you were unceremoniously given another life with no powerups and died very quickly shortly thereafter, ending your game.

You really did have to be good enough to get to the end on one life.
I haven't been able to repeat my feat on Terra Force. I completed it on the actual arcade unit many years ago. Not sure if MAME emulates it perfectly.

Anyway, I enjoy the old-skool shooters. Those modern bullet-hell games are just stupidly difficult and not as much fun.

I just had another bash of it on my C64. Now I remember why I found it so rock hard.

Yes apart from losing all your weapons once you lose a life, it also puts you right back at the beginning of the level unlike Slap Fight. I don't think I ever got past the first stage yet.

Enjoying the Martin Galway title screen music playing in the background behind me atm Smile

I like Terra Cresta a lot. I owned the tape version of it when I was a kid.

Some one year ago I wrote a long review of it here:

The whole game is actually just one super long level, which eventually loops back into the beginning. Although there are regular "continue points" in it, from which you can continue after dying, but these are quite few and far between. And this makes the game quite hard.

And losing all power-ups makes the bosses almost impossible to destroy...But they'll all retreat after a certain period of time, so you just have to dodge their attacks long enough.

I found that the more challenging bosses won't even show up unless you have enough prerequisite ship parts. I thought it was a bug, but the boss that has multiple arms won't appear unless you are fully powered up and ready to meet him. If you're missing bits you end up with the bug-like boss, or the four-pointed drone slinger.
