I was slow to get going when I got it because I got it my xm1541 cable and a cd interface for the 64 and 3 other working modems. I,ve had 6 strokes and have who knows how much of my 156 IQ left. One I got it going good I figured out I was over thinking it. Its so damn easy, but you got to type the commands and get them right, which has been always true of the 64. I am know faced with want to play-cause i got it,and i put a copy of each on commodore server.com. I just type in my v-1541 program,sys49152 and new and log in I'm there its so great I'm not even put my xm1541 cable to work. I found so much out there that i can get to now. Best money I ever spent comet 64 modem.
PS. got 2 c64 forever reg-copys too love them all togather got c64 forever on this desk top, And my laptop has it own c64 forever. Sometimes I play my real 64c with comet modem sometimes the desktop but if I wamt a 64 togo with me I take my laptop with it own c64 forever on it. Plus many games only one on disk than save to commodore server download disk image of it, just pick up saved program on laptop and it loads itself. Dont know if thats how you do it but works for me and i have 100 of games that go with me and my laptop. Which would hold 1000s.

The Comet really is a nice piece of gear! I have something you might be interested in, its a self-booting disk image that loads up the the necessary drivers (V-1541/etc) and logs onto Comet Chat. (without having to type anything other than load"*",8,1 & run) I find its a nice place to go for a good live chat with the topic of vintage computers (mostly C=), and you can do it right from your C64 with Comet or Vice, using the same disk!
Heres a link to the disk image: http://www.mediafire.com/?kntp7cr1t27dbcq
Or, if you'd prefer, send me a friend request on Commodoreserver.com and I'll share it to you that way.
best regards,
- dink |

I use my 64 c and my comet to download what ever I want to play on a real 64. I chat on it sometime on server. Not a real chatter. I also have ccsforever very good program. I USE TOGATHER. Somes things on the 64 and some on my xt with ccsforever. BUT i her on my xt and I All over the world on the internet looking at programs for the 64. Some run on the 64 some on ccsforever. I put most my programs on commodore server with my ibm and download to 64 and upload my org. But I go to 100s of bbs on my Dell and laptop. Got 3 phone modems that are no use for commodore but I keep them. I go on telnet with this computer to the commodore sites and bbs no problem. Somethings I can only see on commodore server. They both have a place in my heart, I got 2 reg version of ccsforever 1 on laptop one on this computer. Im just going to do things the easy way. And my Comet 64 is easy, quick, fast. |

Goog and company did a great job with this hardware. I got to see some neat demos at CommVex. I am working with them for integrating CommodoreServer.com to allow dumps from SuperCard Pro to go right to your disk space, and then you can access the disks from your C64. Pretty neat stuff! |

The Comet got me back into Commodore 64s. I had been an active BBSer back in the day, and the Comet was exactly what the Dr ordered for nostalgic fun.
There is a very active Comet community that are online from all over the world. I've met a bunch of cool people, got programming help, talked with euro demo/music sceners, VICE programmers, and normal everyday c64 users while chatting.
It's a good time, and costs nothing. You can even connect with VICE, log in and join the fun. IRC is cool, but its usually 50 people in the room, and no one talking. Notsomuch in commodoreserver.com chat. For instance, when Fritske is on live DJ'ing from Belgium you can make SID requests to him in commodoreserver.com chat and he'll play whatever you what.
It's like a cool BBS where all your friends hang out. |

probably the wrong network/channel then. the most active c64 related channel is #c-64 on ircnet _________________

Defiantly frequenting the wrong IRC channels.
You can also try irc.newnet.net #c64friends
Out of those 50 people some of them would be from a different time zone and leave the IRC open to check back later. I find a great deal of information on the web from links posted on IRC.

Help me understand... You were using Desterm on a 128 to download a .D64 to a floppy?
- Where were you downloading it from?
- Does Desterm have a function to burn a floppy from a .D64 file or were you just trying to save it as a file? |

Today when playing with my term programs and bbs programs I came across a program guy said would work on comet 64 so I tryed it.
Simple little program it asked all the ? and nexted thing my comet 64 was online but when it did so, It change the address and port on my comet 64 so no more commodore server. So next thing my room upside down looking for my org v1541 disk because I did copy the config program on it. Without reading instrution I scan the disk sfter v1541 there was a cfg so I tryed it the next thing comet 64 lights up. Than I run v-1541 and it works again.
This thing is great for me, Its so easy easy to use.

Is the V-1541.d64 program available for download on the Commodore Server website too large to download onto a 1541 floppy disk? |

No it small 9 blk boot to about 11 blk set up with 62 or 64 chat program
one chat for comet 64 one for flyer and other speed boots program well work on ccsforever as connection for internet connection
papadwight
It seems to be harder to get a bbs and many other programs to run on a real 64 than ccsforever. |

Anyone know how to resolve the problem of a C64 not recognizing a Comet modem, i.e., getting an "invalid device" error message? |

|
|
load "v-1541",8,1 return
sys49152 return
new
It should come up saying 2400 speed
When mine would not do anything I had change address with with a bbs program
ran config program on 1541 disk and started working again
once you run sys 49152 even if your not signed on its on commodore server
you can type load"$",2 too list 1541 disk {ts always number 2
Many terminal or bbs programs with setup can change address now when working on my bbs program files
i remove it and install my 1670 |
