You are better off posting this to Lemon Amiga too. Any originals in there?

I have done - no originals I am afraid - apart from the odd mag cover disk (not listed above)

What sort of market is there for Amiga games these days? I've got about 100 boxed originals with mine, with all the packaging in excellent condition. Not all the games work though, but I don't think that's as important as the packaging these days!

Not much apart from the standard 10-15 rare and good ones. Mostly they cost from 10-20 pounds each.

Moonstone seems to be the one that goes for stupid amounts

Yes, I have seen Moonstone fetching over 200 Euros. But has to be either sealed or in top condition.

Other games who tend to follow Moonstone's path are the Turricans, The Last Ninjas, Shadows of the Beast, The Chaos Engines, The First and Second Samurais and The Cannon Fodders.

Well, I've got mint and complete Chaos Engine and Cannon Fodder, which is a start. I've also got Dragon Wars, I'd have thought that one might be a decent one too.

Maybe you don't get the point, but I think there's still a market for those kind of disks. If someone recently bought a used A500 on ebay, he will be looking for some games/disks and I don't see, why this guy should pay several hundreds of Euros/Dollars/Sloty/Yuan for this kind of games. Collectors might need manuals and packaging, gamers don't.

But that's exactly the point. Gamers can play those games on emulators... collectors would want a mint and complete version. And if the disk no longer works, the game images can be transferred to a disk that does work. It's a lot harder to replicate the original packaging.

But you don't want to tell me, playing a game on an emulator is the same as playing the game on the real machine on a 4:3 monitor/tv with a digital joytick, will you?
I don't know your past, I bought 5-10 games a year back then, but I got my hands on at least 50 and that was exactly the percentage of games, deserving to be bought. Nowadays I feel even less sorrow for the developers/publishers, as they don't see any cent of the price someone is willing to pay 25 years after its release. You might enjoy seeing a package or the manual and I can understand your point of view, but I won't share that opinion. 200 Euros for Moonstone is ridiculous.

Again, that's not really relevant to the question. Of course it's not the same, playing games on an emulator. Nonetheless, that option is now there. And if someone is buying a used Amiga on eBay and wanting loads of disks, then they probably don't care about the packaging and can pick up games on disk without the packaging very cheap. I've got hundreds of original Amiga game disks with no boxes or packaging.

But once you start looking for complete games, you become a collector, not a gamer. And if someone wants original games with all their boxes and manuals, then the chances are they'll have to pay more than if they just buy a disk.

I agree, paying huge amounts of money seems ridiculous, but it's not to a collector, and the price is whatever the market dictates. That's why I was asking, and of course you're entitled to your opinion on the whole second hand games market.

I at times have been very upset at the prices of old games, but in many ways all these games produced were limited copies! The market was so small that it couldn't be otherwise. Most people at that time never minded for the cover or box, so they either threw it away or used it for other tasks ie putting stationary in it etc.

In the south and east of Europe things were ultra tight, as it was nearly impossible someone to be willing to import and distribute games. Piracy was flourishing.

I think playing games on the emulator is just as good as playing the original. Provided one uses the same controllers and the same aspect ratio, I don't see what the difference might be.

I play most of the games on emulators as well, but it just doesn't feel the same. I can't use the real controllers and I'm sitting in front of an LCD(with black borders left and right to fit the correct aspect ratio).
To get back to topic: I'd buy the games, if I just had a spare 1MB A500 and if I would live anywhere near whatever the place is called in the UK. Smile

I think there's a real thrill to sticking the disk in the drive, hearing the click and the whirr as it starts up... something you can't get through emulation. But emulation does make it a lot more hassle-free and convenient to just play the games.

Are you sure about the clickin' and all that? Very Happy
Winuae does miracles. And after several years following WinUAE I have somehow grown out of the affection of inserting discs. To be honest inserting and removing floppies was a pain. But to some point I agree, nothing can bring my old Commie and Miggy back. Sad

I have an A500 with a 4 gig SD card (via GVP sidecar). The last thing I want to do is copy even more A500 disks over to it! Smile

I'd like to have an original of Germ Crazy, just so that I'd know how to play the game! It's basically a war game, using the human body as a backdrop, but there are tons of icons and without a manual to explain everything, I'm a little lost. I just don't really want to $30+ for it though...

Yes, it shows a cartoon man lying on a hospital bed screaming with a hole in his side, one leg and both arms missing.

It always reminded me of Microsurgeon for the Intellivision and TI, but I could never figure out how to properly play it.

This auction ends tomorrow - so get a bid in if you are interested - someone has met the minimum price so they will go.

I won't be selling mine if that's all they go for Shocked

It's a big hassle to get ADFs back onto floppies for use with my A1000 so no point letting mine go really.

If anyone is visiting Manchester for the Play Expo event in October, I will be happy to keep until then.

I never expected a lot, they are not originals at the end of the day, but when I think how much they cost back in the day - ouch. Used to get my copies from a contact we saw in the local paper who advertised Amiga games for sale. Sure it was a couple of quid a game. so probably around £700 worth of games from back in the day.

I'm selling as just decided to keep my original titles. I don't even play them though. All my gaming on the C64 and Amiga is now done via the Gamebase emulator (which is awesome)

If they were C64 5.25" disks......

It's nice to have easily copiable backups though I think. My SOTB original is screwed and I don't have it in my copy of collections. But I agree, rarely do I get the chance to load up real tapes or disks sadly.

Gamebase is a great website but find the install overly complicated on a machine and the filenames are cryptic so I have the games from gamebase AND TOSEC archives (so I can searth the file names on year or publisher etc) Very Happy
