As the title states, I'm looking for a 1525 ribbon. I know 'oldsoftware' claims to have them for $37 each.. I just feel that's a little bit too high of a premium for a modified/sewn ribbon.

I'd be fine just using my 803 if I could acquire a tractor feeder as I'm printing out software dox and hopefully soon at some point BBS logs. (If I could get a response from dopple in regards to an RS232).

Thanks all,

J

If the printer has a dried out cartridge, you may be able to re-ink it. I used to do that with my dot matrix printer back in the day.. Just a thought.

It does have a dried out ribbon... I read somewhere that it's best to use dot matrix ink since it has special lubricant in the ink. I've never researched it in general or given it much thought...

Since my post however, I purchased an MPS803 on eBay with the tractor feeder included. So I'll prolly just use my 803 and I think I'm going to list my 1525 with box on eBay or perhaps I'll hold onto it for nostalgic geekiness...

Thanks,
J

Here's a tip, open your old cartridge and spray a bit of WD-40 on it. Not too much, use your judgment. Then close it back up and let it sit overnight so the stuff can permeate through the ribbon. It should then work like new.

I don't remember what kind of ink I used to use :/ I had an MPS-801 and I ran that thing a lot printing countless full-page game loading screens and printshop banners. Anyways, re-inking was all I did.

I also had the pen plotter (1520). That was a lot of fun! I remember the pens for that though were compatible with some tandy printer, came in a small clear tube. I wrote a bitmap plotting program for it so I could print even more loading screens. :)

I had a 1520 too... I resented it... I asked for a Disk Drive, I got a Tape Drive... I asked for a printer, I got a plotter... Ugh!! I did grow to like it though.. never did much with it except print lottery and bingo numbers for my grandma... Radio Shack did have a compatible. I think they even had exact replacement ink pens too..

@ Admiral... Thanks for the tip.. I think I will try that...

Well the other MPS 803 arrived today and the tractor feed works great. I was able to find ink ribbons for the 803 for $6 a piece. So I bought a half dozen. I think I'll have enough ink to last me until Commodore becomes a thing of the past. Wink

Best,
J
