104,550 Ship 10 - Kallisto
Fine old game. Great use of colour. Too bad I can't remember the maps. |

To each their own, I suppose.
Level 5 makes me wish I was colour-blind, and level 7 is even more painful.
And what's with all that pink?
ETA: Here's my first score:
24,745 (level 3)

As one can see, I'm not very good at this. I never played it much, 'cause I'm not a big fan.
On one hand, I love the speed, your ship, the concept, and some of the maneuvering you need to do; on the other hand, enemies and their shots are too fast for you to react, so you have to loop in advance or hope for the best. Too much looping for my likings, and I HATE that you have to wait for the signal to land (that alone makes U+ a far better game for my taste).
It's a cool game though. _________________

Finally a chance to get better at this tough game. Here's a first score to have an entry:

Check out this interview where Braybrook says he's colour-blind, and the interviewer asks if the ships are meant to be pink?

Of all his well-known games I reckon this must've been the easiest to program. There seems to be almost nothing to it. Smooth-scrolling. Unintelligent enemies. Superbly nifty manta controls. Oh, and the homing mines. What else? I still love it though. When it came out it was the best-looking game I'd ever seen on a home computer. Zzap gave it 99% for graphics. Just look at the game War to see how you can mess something like this up.
I agree about the enemy fire, you just got to ride your luck most of the time, but it's far from overwhelming bad luck and I never get frustrated at the game.
Oh, don't hang around after the 'Land Now!' signal starts going - you don't get any points for ships shot after that. |

I agree, to be fair there isn't too much bad luck so that you start screaming at the screen, so it's not a big flaw.

Don't worry, I was never going to do that , but thanks for the tip.
Anyway, I must say I'm enjoying the game so far. _________________

Wow! You must be really good at the end of level subgame.
I just got a 38K score reaching level 6 (Gold), you more than doubled that with just one level more.
Then again, I always get just three bonuses right, then I miss the blue one and I quit.
ETA: Here's my next score:
67,830 (Ship 7, Platinum)

Actually, in that go and this new score, I only got one maximum, so I know I can score more. My best ever is around 100K getting to level 8, so room for improvement...

On the board with 32670. Not too bad of a game. I'm digging it. I usually don't enjoy side-scoll shooters.

I need more practice
My final score so far ... 13955. Died on level 2. Maybe I'll do better on the real thing _________________ The New Dimension

I reached ship 8 but didn't improve my score yet. _________________

I haven't even played it that much. I've noticed that I've done well in every game in the competitions that I used to be good at. I guess you never really forget.
Tip for Kalllisto - flip on your side right at the beginning, go to the bottom of the screen, and shoot right along to the landing pad without stopping. I think this is the only ship you can do this on. |

115,590 - level 8
Getting better... still lost a couple of lives on the early levels, so I reckon I can squeeze more points out of this... _________________ |
