For some time now Flimsoft has had to put a couple of releases on hold for various reasons, mainly due to myself being a full time worker and full time father. For those of you who do the same as me, you’ll realise the time consumption of this kind of package let alone running a C64 software house.

I have recently had a couple of weeks of from work and have put alot of my time into getting Flimsoft back in buisness with release dates and finding a suitable artist for our release titles. It has taken some time in arranging things to happen for the best but I can certainly say that it has paid off.

First up then is to go back a couple of months back to when I announced the Budget Squad titles of Morph 64, Chang’s Adventure, and The Cursed Key. These releases are still happening and will still be only cassette releases. Although in the future I am sure there will be a diskette release of all three titles in one package. With research it seems that diskette format is much more popular than cassette, although there will be some exceptions such as this package.

The game that is on the our website entitled Outbreak is still in progress with the coder from California and is looking very good at the moment. A nice puzzler from a fresh new up and coming game programmer. I have test played this and it is all coming together very nicely indeed. It is reminiscent to the popular Nintendo Nes game Dr. Mario but not completely a clone (unlike the numerous Tetris clones which have cropped up over the years. The theme of Outbreak is going to be on the lines of B-Movie genre.
Now with two new releases coming in the near future.

We have a platform/puzzle(esque) title which is still in development (although artwork is now complete and stunning it looks too!). The game in question is indeed Shiver me’ Timbers. Oddly enough it is pirate themed! The guy behind this has worked with me in the past and that is all I can say as of now. It will be a brand new release for 2013 which will be available to buy on diskette and cassette (digital download too!!).

Second up we have Morph 2 this is going to be an awesome sequel and much more improved to the original released a couple of years back (and also soon to be on our Budget Squad label). The game will come with a level editor as well as many other features. For those of you who haven’t yet played the original Morph 64, it involes a cute little ball in which you have to guide him in manouvering marbles into a sequence in order to vanish them and head on to further stages.

Our new software house artist is currently working with Flimsoft in designing the new inlays and artwork in general in order to give our releases the packaging which they have always deserved. We are having our Flimsoft logo completely redesigned and having our very own Commodore 64 logo on our future releases, yes, times are very good right now for us. His name is Danny and finished University a while back studying game design. You will also notice that www.flimsoft.co.uk will be looking better in the near future too! We have taken on another guy to sort things out to make it a better browsing experience for you.

After looking at my own personal collection of games, it is mainly the larger cardboard packs which are the best to look at. To some degree I believe that many collectors collect for packaging like myself. For this reason Flimsoft are looking to do this in the future, although in 2013 – doing this is going to be tricky and expensive just like the guys behind HYPERION have also found. It can be done though and hopefully WILL be done. Keep the faith, this time next year there could be cardboard packaged games all over the shop!!

As always. A massive thank you to those who have supported us and continue to support us by buying our games – much much more to come soon!

To me LSS doesn't look like 3 separate games but more like 3 versions of the same game: 2 WIP and a final.

Yes that what the trilogy is, it is a package showing the evolution of the LSS game through time. The final version on the disk (2) is the final version of the game. We thought it would be neat to package all 3 versions up so people have a nice and tidy collection in one case.

That's not a trilogy. That word is so overused.

A trilogy is something that is connected. Maybe our dictionary is wrong?

You're mistaken between a trilogy and a succession.

Oxford dictionary wrote:
Succession: noun

1 a number of people or things of a similar kind following one after the other

Welcome.

The way I understand a trilogy is a story which begins and ends over the course of 3 parts. Anything which is its own self contained story within a series don't count in my book. They just tag trilogy on there to sell boxsets.

Thanks, the coder behind the game and myself are really pleased too. The Flimsoft games are going to look even better in future.

If I could make a suggestion with my advertising designer hat on...

on the Shiver me Timbers artwork, you have almost completely "lost" the main typography against the dark background.

the general rule of thumb with game boxes is that you should be able to read the major namestyle from 2-3 feet away as though you were browsing along a shelf.

It should "pop out" you.

to rectify this in this case you could either...

make the type white or put a white "keyline" around the black type.

Either way I would suggest making the type bigger and spanning 2 lines rather than just a single line across the bottom.

I like it a lot. I will run it by my illustrator. Shiver me' Timbers isn't going to be release for a short while yet so we have plenty of time to play around with the text.

Thanks again Cool
