Do you know if the Arch HD floppy can be replaced with a HD floppy from a PC?

I have never seen one of these for sale in Australia and shipping for such a thing from Europe would be horrific.

Think there are a few mods about to do just that.

I know the HxC is compatible with it.

I have one in beautiful condition I bought in 2011 but the drive doesn't read diddly squat so it needs changing but so few people know which drives you can use let alone whether pulling a standard 1.44mb drive from a PC tower.

I think from memory STs can only use specific drives too but I am short of working ST drives too (the only spare being in an Evesham external drive unit) and also the A3010 and A3020 with their 50% faster CPU than the older Archimedes so they are very desirable as they also use HD drives like the Amiga 4000.

I should just pull it from the loft and try a drive. I gutted two towers last week and specifically saved the floppy drives in case they work. I have a green marker pen for the floppy eject button don't worry Very Happy

Anyone with a 16bit computer collection needs a HxC, brilliant device.

That's not really something you should do to a machine that could pass for new old stock really IMO. Maybe if I picked up a yellowed on with no box or anything sure worth a shot then it's a cool thing to do but not for such a nice original machine.
