I'm feeling nostalgic! I haven't had a 64 in oh... I don't know, 30 years! I still have my monitor though. I ran a BBS back in the day called Starfleet Command... went by the id IceMan... bringing back memories! I've been thinking of buying an old C64 off of ebay, maybe even a disc drive too. I picked up a 300 baud modem at a yard sale not too long ago just for the hell of it. I'm just wondering though, what would I do with this thing other then show my kids how patheric I am? LOL! I even bought the BBS documentary... they think I'm so lame. I'm really missing all of those hacked games, the 100's of floppys I used to have.

Na. You are not pathetic or lame Laughing I just picked up a C-64 for similar reasons. The difference is my kids (12 and 6) think all this retro stuff is a blast. Something tells me they are the only kids in their school that understand LOAD"$",8. I have a bunch of old consoles that I rotate out about every other month. I have my Odyssey 2, Intellivision, Sega Master System and Super Nintendo hooked up right now sitting beside a few modern systems.

For me though, this board amazes me. I only used my C-64 for gaming really. By the time the SNES came out in '92, the C-64 went away and I never really looked back. It's very interesting to me the things people are still doing with the C-64. I try to keep up with most of the post here but a lot of it is above my knowledge and understanding of everything. Still I try and take it all in. I never know what I'll be doing with it one day for fun.

Welcome to the mad house, I'm sure we'll all take good care of you. Lots of great people on here with a lot of knowledge that will be able to help with most problems that arise.

I run a Commodore related website and blog check it out, may find some info that will help you out.

Welcome.

I can't believe I'm entertaining the idea of getting back into this. I'm a wannabee writer and have been thinking about buying an old C64 to use for my next book. I could track down a copy of 'insta writer' and have a go at it.

Ooof. While I encourage your retro interest (like everyone else here), I'm going to have to attempt to discourage you from using the C64 for any kind of real writing! You could get it to work, I suppose, but man it wouldn't be worth all the time you'd have to spend in hacking together a funtional professional writing environment. We used them for work when we had nothing better, but a modern system is SOOO much better for professional work nowadays. Cheers Smile
