Here's some Lemon64 Games Competition policy. Bear in mind that this is not new; I've always run the competition like this. I'm merely making it explicit.

Score Whoring

Score whoring, in principle, is allowed. This is, after all, a high score competition, and we want to see high scores! If you find a spot on a game where you can sit and make more points than by completing it, then by all means go ahead and stay there.

Competition Versions of Games

I am, in principle, opposed to hacking games in order to make them work for the competition. Sometimes, of course, it's been necessary, and I'm sure it will be again in the future, and we all applaud TNT for his great help in this area on our behalf. But I feel very strongly that, if possible, we should be playing unaltered versions of games.

There we go.

Now, clearly, in a number of cases, this policy would cause a round of competition to completely degenerate: by allowing infinite scores; by making achieving a high score so easy that literally anyone could do it; or so tedious that no-one would want to.

I'll quickly run through the possible fixes we have here:
Arrow Level/score caps (e.g. Slap Fight)
Arrow Playing by progression (e.g. Spore)
Arrow The old 'gentleman's agreement' that we will not exploit bugs and easy high scoring opportunities. (e.g. Rick Dangerous II)
Arrow Hacking the game (thanks to TNT!).
Arrow Probably some other ways that I can't think of right now. Razz

The first thing to consider, tho, always, is doing nothing. Is a fix REALLY necessary? We must remember that making high scores 'easy' or 'tedious' to achieve is completely subjective.

That said, as you all know I like to debate these matters when they arise, and I won't make a firm decision until I've listened to other's opinions.
