|
|
Hello all,
Firstly, please pardon my ignorance, I am quite new to the Commodore world
Secondly, I apologize in advance if a topic of this nature has already been posted -- I searched but found nothing.
OK, so I own a C64 and I am planning on purchasing an SD card reader for it. However, from what I understand, you store the games you want to play through the SD card as .d64 files (floppy games, not cartridges -- I know that is a separate issue). But, whenever I go to any ROMs website and download a C64 ROM, such as Street Fighter II, the file is a .NIB file. I was just wondering where I can download .d64 files and/or other C64 game files for an SD card.
Thanks. |

Might I inquire as to which website you're downloading .nib files from? _________________ Here's to feeling good all the time. |

Thank you Hanzi, I will try those.
The .NIB files came from http://www.emuparadise.org/. It's a decent website, I usually use it to fulfill all of my other ROM needs. |

Look for the complete Gamebase torrent on thepiratebay.org - I am one of the folks seeding it. It's 5.12 gigs in size but that includes all the games, music, screenshots - everything.
Or yes you can pick and choose from the gamebase site itself. |

Thank you sncboom2k. I am currently downloading the torrent.
EDIT: The torrent is not working -- when I opened it with uTorrent, it said: "This file may exceed the filesystem size limit, do you wish to proceed?" I naturally clicked "OK" and continued, only to discover a minute later that the torrent itself stopped downloading with the same error message (Error: file exceeds filesystem size limit). I am downloading the torrent to an external HD with more than enough room.
Any ideas on how to get around this/help?? |

Probably your external HDD is formatted with the FAT32 filesystem.
FAT32 can allocate files up to 4GB, the ZIP file you try to download is more than 5GB.
If you are using Windows, you can convert the filesystem to NTFS with this command:
| Code: | | convert E: /fs:ntfs |
assuming that the driveletter of you external HDD is E:
I've never had an issue with FAT32 to NTFS conversion, but it's always a good idea to backup the data on your external HDD before converting to NTFS.
Another option is downloading to a local harddisk that already has an NTFS formatted partition.
After downloading you can extract it and save the contents of the ZIP file to your external HDD. |

I didn't know any of the ROM sites had the C64PP data. |

Probably taken the ones from the Gamebase archive and rehosted them... _________________ Mayhem64 - for all your cartridge needs!

.NIB are Parallel Port created files? Do these typically include the original games with copy protection etc in tact?
Thanks,

Ok so I downloaded a few files from the site listed above and they are in fact .NIB files. They also state they are from Pete's site (Commodore Preservation.)
Hoping I can setup a parallel cable and pull some of these back with their copy protection in tact! Sweet. |

Most of the nib files should also be within the extras folder of the Gamebase torrent.
And yes, some can be remastered to disk using nibtools. |

Yeah, I've just realized that the .NIB files are probably for instances when you want to copy them onto new disks/floppies, whereas .d64 files are geared towards emulation. Does that sound about right? (I am also aware that the .NIB files are through the C64 Preservation Project, they're just linked to emuparadise.org.)
Also, thanks K.C. -- I'm surprised I didn't think of this before, I have re-formatted my other external HD to NTFS in the past. I'm currently converting the HD now, I'll update you guys when it's done.
EDIT: The conversion went well, everything worked out okay. Instead of using the command prompt I just right-clicked and hit "Format."
UPDATE: The torrent downloaded correctly, thanks everyone! And yes, the .NIB files are in the "Extras" folder, under "Disks" with their respective .d64 file. |

Like AmiNet for the Amiga, is there a site you can up-load C64 files to share? Not just games, but utilities and such?? _________________ |
