Great preview, enemies seem a little "dumb" at the moment though and game speed/animation is a tad too fast...

What I have seen of this game release is pretty good. I like the work that has been done so far. The enemies crashing into each other and the walls make me laugh a bit. I think it is pretty comical when those kind of things happen in a game. SFX sound of the player shooting sounds SEUCK(ish). The Digi Sampling gives a bit of the classic arcade feeling into it as well.

I hope the game does get finished and successful as well.

If you know the mame version then you see it's definately not bad for a C64 version. Needs some tweaks here and there. Smile

wow!!!! already a new preview.... Smile

Quote:
V0.4 is now a D64 with a hi-score saver. The 1541 disk routine is quite a lot of newish code so it'll need testing for a while.

You'll need to turn on VICE "true drive" if you want hi-score saving to work.

The title screen also looks much better now. Thank you Zeldin. Smile

oh this just ROCKS. THANK YOU.

it plays amazingly well; it might even be my favorite rendition of the game besides the original arcade cabinet.

it indeed seems a bit faster than the original, but that only adds to the fun. I think the original also had a somewhat smaller playing field so that compensates nicely.

the robots seem to react a bit different from the original, but they are 'stupid' in creatively new ways.

graphic niggle: the 'human' standing still looks spot on, I don't really recall how it looked in the original but here the animation looks like he's hopping on one leg.

Very nice! I think the latest version is right on. Only thing I noticed is the robots don't shoot you like they do in the arcade version.

Oh, I just noticed that they do when you get further into the game... Thanks for bringing this game to life on the C64 -- I can't believe no-one has done that before! Very Happy

I agree and it is on my TODO list. I'll be taking lots of screen shots in MAME to figure out what is wrong.

Sorry, I just noticed that they do shoot you... it just happens later in the game than the original -- I just didn't get far enough for them to shoot me in your game until now. Embarassed

Just been reading the Wikipedia entry for Berzerk:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berzerk
And this part got my attention:
Quote:
Berzerk was the first video game known to have been involved in the death of a player. In January 1981, 19-year-old Jeff Dailey died of a heart attack soon after posting a score of 16,660 on Berzerk.[6] In October of the following year, Peter Burkowski made the Berzerk top-ten list twice in fifteen minutes, just a few seconds before also dying of a heart attack at the age of 18.[7]

A Cracked.com article entitled "The 10 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies of All Time" listed Evil Otto as number one, citing the two deaths attributed to the game and remarking that "[H]e is possibly the only video game enemy in history to kill players in real-life" and "Evil Otto watched them die ... with a smile on his face."[8]

I don't know if I dare to play this game preview Shocked

don't worry, I played it and I'm only half dead.
obviously I shouldn't play it twice

Razz

I saw at the csdb thread that version 0.5 has been uploaded at the same location.

Played preview 0.5 a bit more just now....

Using VICE for now, but thankfully I have a breadbin here with a Keyrah interface so I could hook up an ol' trusty Suzo Arcade joystick. ahh... now that's gaming. Cool

encountered just one bug so far: at one point a pink robot seemed to be able to walk right outside the arena using exit north, rendering him invisible to me and proceeded to shoot at me from that position.

HAXX!!1!!! CHeATOR@!!! Laughing

at my first go at one of the previous previews I scored 8700 or thereabout, I now seem to have trouble breaking the 10K mark.
right now I'm stuck at 9450 Embarassed

Laughing Now that is really funny. I'll have to fix it of course. Smile

9450 is really respectable, the game gets hard, really hard.

One minor suggestion -- the letters move by almost too fast to select the right ones on the high score section. In MAME, they move slower. Thanks!
