Theres a couple of versions on Gamebase. One is labelled 'Re-release with 4 additional levels'.
I'm guessing we stick with the original release. Any comments? _________________ If it bleeds, we can kill it |

No, no, what happened is that some cracking group stole a few disks from the Ocean stand at a gaming expo which contained a pre-release Midnight Resistance - that had only levels 1 to 5.
Naturally, said cracking group released this version which was then spread. This is what laid to the common misconception that the C64 version of Midnight Resistance didn't have all original levels. But of course, when Ocean released the game it had all 9 levels of the arcade original.
So by all means, play a version that features all 9 levels.
Here's my first score.
14.480

I lost loads of lives to the green vehicle on the first sequence. That's pretty bad form. Also, might have been touched on before, but I think there are moments with endlessly reappearing enemies here, which might prove problematic in a game with no timer. Still, we all play fair here right? _________________ "If you think that the work security systems still overlook 'pr0n' you're an idiot." |

Of course, gazee.
Besides, I think that the respawning enemies are few and far between, and are worth few points anyway.
Here's my first score for this compo (after a couple of warm-up plays):
23,843 (level 8 )
http://spazioinwind.libero.it/cabi/mr0.bmp
The game is rather easy, except a few spots: level 3's tree, level 8's end of level baddie, level 9.
I find that the flamethrower and shotgun are useless, the autofire gun is very useful in level 3, and the best allround weapon by far is three-way.
Missiles aren't effective, Shower is nearly decent, Nitros are definitely the best and almost mandatory in some sections (i.e. end of level 3).
Another basic tip for me: always buy extra lives when available _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

I've never been that big of a fan of Shoot 'em Ups. After viewing screen shots I thought I'd probably be sitting this round out. But then I read the docs. What! A band of megalomaniacs kidnapped my family including my grandfather! Time for some killing!
After one night of rampaging in the streets, my high score is 7820. But I can see from SLF's early score I'm going to have to do better than that.
I'm starting to get into this game.

After missing zaxxon and countless others over the past few months, I need to get back into this thing. This one looks like real fun. Had a practice go earlier and I'm impressed by how the guy can crawl and move the gun around in 8 directions. Lame perhaps, but I don't think I've seen those maneuvers all too often on the 64. _________________ Are you on the same island as I am? |

Those flying enemies give me a harder time in the bridge of level 4 rathen than at the tree.

Gryzor/Contra was the groundbreaking game in this field. Midnight Resistance is almost but not quite Gryzor/Contra II _________________

@Predator:Thanks for that. Never owned nor played Contra on the C64.
What version are you guys playing because I scored 5425 and I can't save to the highscore list because the lowest one is 10,145 and by the time my slowing trigger finger reaches the menu to save a screenshot the game over screen sits laughing at me. Guess for now it's motivation to do better. For the record I got to level 2 where the missile tank did away with my remaining lives. _________________ Are you on the same island as I am? |

I can see that, but if you have the three-way weapon they're a piece of cake really, there. _________________

The Gamebase version with all 9 levels is the one to use (Ocean/Special FX):
Midnight Resistence Download
I will update the main thread also... _________________

I believe the GameBase version is fine (Ocean/Special FX):
Midnight Resistence Download
I will update the main thread also[/url] |
No, it's not. That's the version which misses the last four levels, as far as I see.
The right one should be this: http://gb64.com/game.php?id=14717&d=18
cracked by Angels. _________________
