I think eslapion doesn't do upgrades to v5.22 for ethical reasons. JPPBM owns the rights to and still makes and sells Super Snapshots and v5.22 is the current version. They also offer upgrades to that version. Eslapion sticks to offering items that aren't readily available as a service to the community.

OK, cool. That is good news! I'm glad I can still get an upgrade to v5.22 Smile

That is correct.

Also, while it is possible to upgrade a SuperSnapshot V2 or V3 to a V4 just by changing the ROM, not so with the V5 which has a completely different electronics board.

I have a SSV5.22 and I think its worth the price asked by JPPBM. However, it has a few bugs.

Eslapion, I'm considering getting (Maurice)DOS for my C64c. It looks like there may be two types of 64c's, each requiring a different chip? What do you think of this:

http://forum.cmdrkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=168

Also, anyone: can I get the installation instructions beforehand? I want to see what I may be getting myself into.

From CMDRKEY's online store:

Quote:
If you have the later white (beige) 64C, check your serial number to determine the correct chip. If the serial number begins with HB or begins with CA130 or higher, select the "Late 64C (E board)" chip, otherwise, select the "Early 64C" chip.

The "early" 64c uses exactly the same JiffyDOS as the original Breadbin. All others use the true 64c version.

Installation instructions can be found on Andrew Wiskow's personal web site

If I had to write a tutorial, it'd go something like this:

1. Open beer
2. Open C64
3. Pry old kernel ROM out with bottle opener
4. Align JiffyDOS ROM into newly emptied socket and push
5. Close C64
6. Finish beer

Here's to hoping your ROM is socketed, otherwise you might not need the bottle opener.

Remind me to not commission you for the installation. Laughing

He is however, as I can attest, a fun guy to hang out with. You have to be careful though. If you leave him alone with your stuff he'll mod it or spray paint it or something. Laughing

Some people like to smoke cigarettes while drinking beer, I prefer spraypaint fumes.

I guess smoking cigarettes while enjoying spraypaint fumes could have explosive consequences... Laughing

Its a rather entertaining way of saying it but the bottomline is, yes, installing JiffyDOS in most Commodore computers and drives is a very straightforward thing.

Thanks for providing these, eslapion. Would you happen to know where one might obtain JiffyDOS ROM chips for the FSD-1 drives?

What if we think it would be kinda cool to have such a uniquely coloured c64 that smells of spray paint and cigerettes?

actually if we did we may have to throw ourselves off of something very tall with spikes below

A cart port extender cable. Right now I can not plug my ramlink in with any of my cart port expanders. I have a cmd 3+1 expander with the port out the back, but then the ramlink is sticking way too far out the back of the computer. I would really like a ribbon cable that would allow me to plug in to the ramlink cart port, and then over to a cart expander on the desk. If you could make like an L cable that came up out of the ramlink, over to 1 side or the other, and then had some room to move the expander wherever you wanted to on the desk (Within reason) that would be pretty rocking, and probably easy to build for someone with your unique skill set. I saw a 4ft cart port extension cable on lamebay once, but I didn't get to it in time...
